This book was released on 2023-03-29 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term religion lends itself to various meanings and interpretations depending upon the nature, education and the level of consciousness and conscience of a particular human being who actually harbors the idea or practices of his faith. It is evident therefore, that the concept of religion in human life and society appears to be most controversial and a complex thing which has variable meanings and significance to various human minds. It is indeed pitiful to observe that in the mountain maelstrom of materialism, man develops the tendency to ignore or undermine the edifying and enriching experience of religions and prefers to stay away from the path of the nourishment of his soul without which, both human existence and progress are seriously endangered. The practice of spiritual uplift is therefore, an indispensable condition of human progress and civilization, for a life conditioned by, and dependent on, mere material development is deemed to be fraught with utter futility. The essays chosen in this volume by and large have been written by scholars with a view, to unfolding either the virtues or shortcomings of many of the principles and practices of different religions. Some of the essays have sought to examine the causes and reasons behind the unhealthy views and superstitions and also to reveal a good and elevating virtues the cultivation of which may enlighten us for the realization of the noble ideas and ideals of life. The writers have made an honest attempt to look at the grim reality of some religious superstitions in order to find out the hidden light that rise beyond the boundary of blind beliefs and faiths. Such a quest is always worthwhile for a sincere seeker in quest of truth and light. The authors of the essays have taken pains to diagnose the deep-seated malady of blind belief, fanaticism and dogmatisms.
Book Synopsis Culture, Ideology, Hegemony by : K. N. Panikkar
Download or read book Culture, Ideology, Hegemony written by K. N. Panikkar and published by Anthem Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores the interconnections between culture, ideology and hegemony in an effort to understand and explain how Indians came to terms with colonial subjection and envisioned a future for the society in which they lived. The process of exploring the indigenous epistemological tradition and assessing it in the context of advances made by the west was not unilinear and undifferentiated; it was driven with contradictions, contentions and ruptures. Locating intellectual history at the intersection of social and cultural history, the eight essays in this book cover a wide range of issues, moving from an overview of religious and social ideas in colonial India to empirical studies of themes such as indigenous medicine, the family and literary fiction. Professor Panikkar contests both the imperialist and nationalist paradigms of intellectual history. Meticulously researched and lucidly argued, his analysis is illuminated by a rare sensitivity to the nature of class formation and class values, as well as to the material conditions of human existence.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is your name, from where, of which caste, what job, how old? One who is free from such questions, his alone is beatitude. In the verdant countryside of south-west India, at the turn of the last century, lived the great poet-seer Narayana Guru. His message was very simple: 'Man is of one caste, one religion and one God / Of one same womb, one same form, with no difference at all.' Grounded in the mystical depths of life, he wandered across the landscape, gently proclaiming justice and equality for all, interacting with the multitudes who came to meet him, electrifying them to be at their best, and galvanizing a peaceful movement to eliminate oppression in all its forms. Stalwarts like Rabindranath Tagore and Mahatma Gandhi sought his counsel. He inspired social reformers such as Sahodaran Ayyappan, Mahatma Ayyankali, Pandit Karuppan, V.T. Bhattathiripad, among others. Along the way, he composed a compact body of writing in prose and verse of exceptional potency. These are stimulating, deep and original explorations, entryways into a profound appreciation of the human condition. A Cry in the Wilderness: The Works of Narayana Guru collects his oeuvre in one volume, in a lucid translation from the Malayalam, Tamil and Sanskrit by Vinaya Chaitanya.
Book Synopsis Am I A Chosen One? by : Alice K Jones
Download or read book Am I A Chosen One? written by Alice K Jones and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2024-08-08 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Am I a Chosen One?’ is an autobiography - a bold and truthful presentation of a courageous woman's journey through life. Shy and nervous during girlhood days, the writer found herself to be in 'wonderland' after attaining motherhood! The writing is in stream-of-consciousness style, taking the reader through the labyrinth of the author's thoughts, ideas and experiences. “This attempt”, writes the author in her preface, “just reveals how an ordinary woman, initially timid and diffident became brave and self-confident later. In a nutshell, my unwavering faith in God guided me through all my sufferings. The thought that sharing my experiences could be beneficial to others, goaded me into taking up this labour of love…… After reading this autobiography, if some get inspired to lead an honest life; to live with the true coordination in their thoughts, words, and deeds; to replace fear of God with LOVE OF GOD, I would feel amply rewarded for my effort.”
