Book excerpt: Abstract: The purpose of this study was to explore the oncology nurse's experience of compassion fatigue (CF), burnout (BO), and compassion satisfaction (CS) among oncology nurses in the United States (U.S.) and Canada in order to examine the various levels of CF, BO, and CS within the international setting. Fluid Surveys collected four hundred and eighty- six responses from members of Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) and sixty-three from the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO). Descriptive statistics was used to explore similarities and differences between the cohorts. Chi-square test of independence was used to investigate associations between sample characteristics to experiences of CF, BO, and CS. The results indicated that experiences of CF, BO, and CS were comparable between U.S. and Canadian participants despite differing health care systems. Perception of team cohesiveness within the workplace environment was found to be significant in both cohorts as indicated by significant relationships in all three subscales.
