Book excerpt: THOMAS M. WHALING Attorney at Law You will r emember Forest Gump's ability t o turn u p just i n time for the great events in history. Clyde Childress is not Forest Gump, but instead a driven, disciplined genius. Clyde Childress is both a Marine Aviation Warrior and business tycoon with a special gift for turning up just in time for events that made history. His life has been a thrill a minute and seems to grow more entertaining and exciting with time. An Outstanding read! JOE WADEL Colonel, USMCR, ret FORKS is an excellent book about the life adventures of a highly decorated Marine Corps o fficer. It candidly depicts difficult circumstances from Clydes early years that reveal his dreams and expectations; his early passion for flying as Virginia's youngest licensed pilot and his distinguished career as a Marine Corps aviator evident throughout his book. H is account of actual combat experiences are both captivating and spellbinding events that, few people will ever experience in a lifetime. It is a true miracle. TED KOOPMAN, CDR USN, ret Clyde O Childress, Major, USMC ret. is one of the most remarkable men I have ever met. He is a true and genuine Patriot who l oves America and has served gallantly in combat. Clydes patriotism continues with his on-going efforts to help veterans, especially those who have suffered in action. His story is one of the most remarkable I have ever read because of his unique ability to overcome obstacles that stop most people cold. Clyde is an inspiration to everyone who meets him. His 'never give up' attitude and willingness to go out of his way to help anyone proves that gallantry exists both in and out of combat. Major Childress' candid story also proves that the American Dream is alive and well, and "Forks" provides the reader a rare, personal glimpse into the life of a rare individual . Book excerpt: Stroke: Recovering from Human Errors By: Alfred C. Chu Alfred C. Chu suffered a stroke when he was 28 years old. Not many people suffer a stroke at such a young age and not many live to tell their story. The causes were a combination of a skin condition he was born with called Psoriasis, a virus he contracted called “superbug”, and the medication Cyclosporine. Enclosed are the memories of his tragic experience that includes knowledge he gained about the human body, certain medications, diet, exercise, and his outlook towards life before and during this experience. Along with his stroke were two life threatening comas. The first coma lasted for three weeks and the second lasted one week. Included with his stroke were over a dozen surgeries on various parts in his body, most of which were in the area around his left hip joint. What makes his story even more tragic is that not all people who suffer a stroke require surgery. All these surgeries have confined him to a wheelchair, but there's still the possibility of him walking slowly with a leg brace, a cane, a walker, or crutches. If it's possible, he is not going to give up. As of December 2019, he’s living in Taiwan for medical treatment and physical therapy.

Book excerpt: ‘Of Embers’ Ashes’ is a modern day ‘thief at the cross’ story of restoration, forgiveness and redemption: The week started off typical for Mick Shorlan, regrets of his past and family tragedies that had consumed him for years filled his thoughts, he took the time to search out and harass a street evangelist, standards for the bitter, egocentric and self centered man he had become. Yet this week would prove to be the most critical for him, when a series of events confront him with himself, his attitudes, perspectives and who he is at the core of his very being. Orchestrated by the Creator, the changes Mick undergoes in a week’s time, especially concerning forgiveness, transform him, in preparation for the not so Hollywood, happy ending.

How does your sun sign influence who you are and the choices you make? Why does Scorpio want a corner office while Taurus would rather have a luxury vacation? Why does Leo excel at seduction while Aquarius is more interested in studying string theory? In the sassy, no-nonsense voice thousands of fans of her horoscopes in Elle have come to love, Bridgett Walther provides critical insight and useful advice for each of the twelve sun signs. For readers looking for a transformation to their best self, Walther shows you how to overcome hardwired traits and use planetary timing to your advantage in love, money, health, family, and the future. With a foreword by the one and only Cher, Conquer the Cosmos will appeal to everyone, from the seriously spiritual to those who are just plain curious.

Offered is a unique perspective of America’s broken mental healthcare system and the cruel treatment of patients dealing with addiction, providing real solutions supported by research. America’s fragmented mental healthcare system and treatment of addiction promotes an outdated cure that is often far worse than the disease it supposedly treats. This is a treatment that exacerbates addictive behaviors, mental illness, and increases average substance misuse. If mental illness and addictive behaviors are to be combatted, reduced, or eliminated, the core foundation of societal values, as well as beliefs about addiction recovery and our mental health ecosystem, must be rebuilt from the ground up.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "If I can save one woman from these thighs, I will not have lived in vain," #1 New York Times bestselling humorist Jill Conner Browne writes in American Thighs, her handbook and memoir for the Hot and Flashy. Whether young enough to look "hot" or of the age to only feel that way (in flashes with buckets of sweat), every woman has given, or will give, ample thought to preserving her best "assets" (thighs included), so that the dread transition from "cute girl" to "ma'am" won't be quite so unsettling. Here are stories of growing up and learning about life -- usually the hard way! From disastrous haircuts and color jobs to fashion or verbal faux pas committed, from the kiss wished for but never gotten to the one that should have been skipped, these are the moments that mark each of our journeys from what we thought back then to what we now know. Since to say that Youth is wasted on the Young has got to be the understatement of all time, it falls upon Browne, as one older and wiser, to take a "Hit and Run" down Memory Lane for the sake of offering "Asset-Preserving Tips," with astonishing disclosures about: Why women have risked their lives just to get a little bit blonder How the muumuu has been fashionably resurrected as the "patio dress" Why it's important to always have a good photo of yourself on hand -- just in case How, no matter what skin you're in, to make it last a lifetime Why you can never trust anyone over eighty-five

Aging is a journey: a decades-long adventure of new opportunities and surprises. For many men, the decline in virility and power that accompanies age can be a tough pill to swallow. When these fall away, how do we make sense of who we are? What does it mean to be a man? Drawing from research, interviews, and personal stories, Every Breath, New Chances shows readers how to turn toward the changes associated with aging and to reevaluate losses and transitions as new avenues for joy, self-discovery, renewal, and growth. Delving into topics such as divorce, single living, retirement, and encore careers, each chapter includes a contemplative practice called Deep Mind Reflection to help readers navigate the fears and aspirations that come along with changes in relationships and work. This book addresses the more challenging realities associated with illness, substance abuse, and mortality, while empowering readers to compassionately embrace next steps and spiritual preparations for their final decades of life. This book does not proffer tools for staving off an inevitable part of life; rather, it offers frameworks and strategies for peacefully embracing it.

Book excerpt: A Nominee for the 2022 Dragon Award for Best Military Science Fiction or Fantasy Admiral John “Black Jack” Geary must battle dangers both within and without the Alliance, in this exciting continuation of the New York Times bestselling series. Geary knows that some political factions in the Alliance were just trying to get rid of him when he was assigned to escort a diplomatic and scientific mission to the far reaches of humanity’s expansion into the galaxy . . . and beyond. But he views his mission as both a duty and an opportunity to make things better wherever he can. And when a crippled Rift Federation ship tumbles out of jump space, Geary leaps into action. But the survivors’ story isn’t completely adding up. As Geary investigates, he soon finds himself fending off spies and assassins while leading the fleet as it fights its way across space controlled by the mysterious and hostile aliens whom humans call enigmas. Challenges arrive at every turn, including an unknown alien species that invites the fleet to visit one of their star systems. With little information to go on, Geary must weigh the benefits of potential new allies against the possibility of a trap. The fate of the fleet—and perhaps even the future of humanity—will depend on him making the right decision. If he can stay alive long enough to do that.
