Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Delights of Wisdom Pertaining to Conjugial Love is a book by Emanuel Swedenborg, a Swedish theologist, scientist, thinker and mystic, here providing a thorough spiritual understanding of marriage love and sex. Excerpt: "Spiritual cold in marriages is a disunion of souls and a disjunction of minds, whence come indifference, discord, contempt, disdain, and aversion; from which, in several cases, at length comes separation as to bed, chamber, and house. That these effects take place with married partners, while their primitive love is on the decline, and becomes cold, is too well known to need any comment. The reason is, because conjugial cold above all others resides in human minds; for the essential conjugial principle is inscribed on the soul, to the end that a soul may be propagated from a soul, and the soul of the father into the offspring. Hence it is that this cold originates there, and successively goes downward into the principles thence derived, and infects them; and thus changes the joys and delights of the primitive love into what is sad and undelightful."

Book Synopsis Doctrine of Sacred Scriptures by : Emanuel Swedenborg
Download or read book Doctrine of Sacred Scriptures written by Emanuel Swedenborg and published by Library of Alexandria. This book was released on with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Doctrine of Holy Scripture THE HOLY SCRIPTURE OR WORD IS DIVINE TRUTH It is in everybody's mouth that the Word is from God, is Divinely inspired, and is therefore holy; and yet hitherto no one has known wherein it is Divine. For in the letter the Word appears like a common writing, in a style that is strange, and neither so sublime nor so brilliant as apparently are the writings of the day. For this reason a man who worships nature as God, or in preference to God, and who consequently thinks from himself and what is proper to himself, and not from heaven from the Lord, may easily fall into error in respect to the Word, and into contempt for it, and while reading it may say to himself, What is this? What is that? Can this be Divine? Could God, whose wisdom is infinite, speak in this manner? Wherein consists its holiness, and whence comes its holiness, except from religious feeling and its consequent persuasion? But he who thinks in this way does not consider that Jehovah Himself, the God of heaven and earth, spoke the Word through Moses and the prophets, and that it must therefore be Divine truth itself, for what Jehovah Himself speaks can be nothing else. Nor does he consider that the Lord, who is the same as Jehovah, spoke the Word that is in the Gospels, much of it with His own mouth, and the rest from the spirit of His mouth, which is the Holy Spirit. This is why, as He Himself says, there is Life in His words, that He is the Light which enlightens, and that He is the Truth.

Download or read book Introducing Anthropology of Religion written by Jack David Eller and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-08-07 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This lively and readable survey introduces students to key areas of the field and shows how to apply an anthropological approach to the study of contemporary world religions. Written by an experienced teacher, it covers all of the traditional topics of anthropology of religion, including definitions and theories, beliefs, symbols and language, and ritual and myth, and combines analytic and conceptual discussion with up-to-date ethnography and theory. Eller includes copious examples from religions around the world – both familiar and unfamiliar – and two mini-case studies in each chapter. He also explores classic and contemporary anthropological contributions to important but often overlooked issues such as violence and fundamentalism, morality, secularization, religion in America, and new religious movements. Introducing Anthropology of Religion demonstrates that anthropology is both relevant and essential for understanding the world we inhabit today.
Book Synopsis Mesopotamian Protective Spirits by : F. A. M. Wiggermann
Download or read book Mesopotamian Protective Spirits written by F. A. M. Wiggermann and published by BRILL. This book was released on 1992 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wiggerman's study of Mesopotamian monsters bridges the gap between text and image. Wooden and clay figures of monstrous spirits such as Hairy-One (lahmu), Bison-Bull (kusarikku), and Furious-Snake (mushussu) stand guard at the entrances to buildings to protect the inhavitants from demonic intruders. Deriving his information from the ritual texts that describe the production and installation of these figures, the author identifies the monsters of the texts with objects from the archaeological record and presents a detailed discussion of the identities and histories of a variety of Mesopotamian monsters.
Book Synopsis Lectures on the Origin and Growth of Religion as Illustrated by the Religion of the Ancient Babylonians by : Archibald Henry Sayce
Download or read book Lectures on the Origin and Growth of Religion as Illustrated by the Religion of the Ancient Babylonians written by Archibald Henry Sayce and published by . This book was released on 1888 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lectures on the Origin and Growth of Religion: As Illustrated by the Religion of the Ancient Babylonians A word of apology is needed for the numerous repetitions in the following chapters, which are due to the fact that the chapters were written and delivered in the form of Lectures. I cannot guarantee the exactness of every word in the trans lations of the cuneiform texts given in them. The meaning of individual words may at times be more precisely defined by the discovery of fuller materials, even where it has been supposed that their signification has been fixed with certainty. The same fate has befallen the interpretation of the Hebrew Scriptures, and is still more likely to befall a progressive study like Assyrian.
