Download or read book Uniform Central Limit Theorems written by R. M. Dudley and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-02-24 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this new edition of a classic work on empirical processes the author, an acknowledged expert, gives a thorough treatment of the subject with the addition of several proved theorems not included in the first edition, including the Bretagnolle–Massart theorem giving constants in the Komlos–Major–Tusnady rate of convergence for the classical empirical process, Massart's form of the Dvoretzky–Kiefer–Wolfowitz inequality with precise constant, Talagrand's generic chaining approach to boundedness of Gaussian processes, a characterization of uniform Glivenko–Cantelli classes of functions, Giné and Zinn's characterization of uniform Donsker classes, and the Bousquet–Koltchinskii–Panchenko theorem that the convex hull of a uniform Donsker class is uniform Donsker. The book will be an essential reference for mathematicians working in infinite-dimensional central limit theorems, mathematical statisticians, and computer scientists working in computer learning theory. Problems are included at the end of each chapter so the book can also be used as an advanced text.
Book Synopsis U-Statistics in Banach Spaces by : IU. IUrii Vasilevich Borovskikh
Download or read book U-Statistics in Banach Spaces written by IU. IUrii Vasilevich Borovskikh and published by VSP. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: U-statistics are universal objects of modern probabilistic summation theory. They appear in various statistical problems and have very important applications. The mathematical nature of this class of random variables has a functional character and, therefore, leads to the investigation of probabilistic distributions in infinite-dimensional spaces. The situation when the kernel of a U-statistic takes values in a Banach space, turns out to be the most natural and interesting. In this book, the author presents in a systematic form the probabilistic theory of U-statistics with values in Banach spaces (UB-statistics), which has been developed to date. The exposition of the material in this book is based around the following topics: algebraic and martingale properties of U-statistics; inequalities; law of large numbers; the central limit theorem; weak convergence to a Gaussian chaos and multiple stochastic integrals; invariance principle and functional limit theorems; estimates of the rate of weak convergence; asymptotic expansion of distributions; large deviations; law of iterated logarithm; dependent variables; relation between Banach-valued U-statistics and functionals from permanent random measures.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers contained in this volume are an indication of the topics th discussed and the interests of the participants of The 9 International Conference on Probability in Banach Spaces, held at Sandjberg, Denmark, August 16-21, 1993. A glance at the table of contents indicates the broad range of topics covered at this conference. What defines research in this field is not so much the topics considered but the generality of the ques tions that are asked. The goal is to examine the behavior of large classes of stochastic processes and to describe it in terms of a few simple prop erties that the processes share. The reward of research like this is that occasionally one can gain deep insight, even about familiar processes, by stripping away details, that in hindsight turn out to be extraneous. A good understanding about the disciplines involved in this field can be obtained from the recent book, Probability in Banach Spaces, Springer-Verlag, by M. Ledoux and M. Thlagrand. On page 5, of this book, there is a list of previous conferences in probability in Banach spaces, including the other eight international conferences. One can see that research in this field over the last twenty years has contributed significantly to knowledge in probability and has had important applications in many other branches of mathematics, most notably in statistics and functional analysis.

Book Synopsis Convolution Metrics and Rates of Convergence in the CLT (Central Limit Theorem). by : S. T. Rachev
Download or read book Convolution Metrics and Rates of Convergence in the CLT (Central Limit Theorem). written by S. T. Rachev and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let (B,) be a complete separable Banach space and let X=X (B) be the vector space of all random variables defined on a probability space (Omega, A, P) and taking values in B. It is known that metrics on X of convolution type enjoy a variety of interesting properties. In this article it is shown that convolution metrics may also by used to obtain rates of convergence in CLT's involving a stable limit law. The rates are expressed in terms of a variety of uniform metrics on X and include the total variation metric and the uniform metrics between density and characteristic functions. The results represent both an improvement and an extension of existing results. Week convergence properties of convolution metrics are also explored. Keywords: Ideal probability metrics; Convolution metrics; Rate of convergence; Stable random variables.
Book Synopsis Theory of U-Statistics by : Vladimir S. Korolyuk
Download or read book Theory of U-Statistics written by Vladimir S. Korolyuk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of U-statistics goes back to the fundamental work of Hoeffding [1], in which he proved the central limit theorem. During last forty years the interest to this class of random variables has been permanently increasing, and thus, the new intensively developing branch of probability theory has been formed. The U-statistics are one of the universal objects of the modem probability theory of summation. On the one hand, they are more complicated "algebraically" than sums of independent random variables and vectors, and on the other hand, they contain essential elements of dependence which display themselves in the martingale properties. In addition, the U -statistics as an object of mathematical statistics occupy one of the central places in statistical problems. The development of the theory of U-statistics is stipulated by the influence of the classical theory of summation of independent random variables: The law of large num bers, central limit theorem, invariance principle, and the law of the iterated logarithm we re proved, the estimates of convergence rate were obtained, etc.
