Book excerpt: Celebrity trainer and goop expert Lauren Roxburgh's program that uses pelvic floor strength to release stress, fortify the body, and treat the physical and mental origins of tension. Chances are your body feels some form of stress every day, whether it's inflammation, bloating, tension, discomfort, anxiety, or pain during sex. We're constantly distracted by ailments we can't quite seem to fix. Body alignment expert Lauren Roxburgh believes that all of these problems can be solved by first unlocking the foundation of your mental and physical health: the pelvic floor. Located at the root of our pelvis, it determines how firm our core is, how we handle stress, and how much energy reaches the rest of our body. Without addressing the health of our pelvic floor, we are all missing out on a powerful key component of our overall physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Roxburgh presents an entirely new approach to building well-being--one based on a strong pelvic floor, open energy channels, and a clear mind. The Power Source offers a deep understanding of how to cultivate this strength by following a holistic, multisensory program. Starting with the pelvic floor, Roxburgh focuses on the five power centers that can be harnessed throughout the body: The pelvic floor The deep core The upper core The heart and shoulders The head, neck, and jaw With targeted exercises to encourage healing movement, nourishing recipes--from a Confidence-Boosting Tonic to Root-Rejuvenating Bone Broth--and holistic therapies that include visualizations, aromatherapy, and more, Roxburgh gives a full toolbox to realign your body and your life.

If so, why do we often rely on our own wits, strength, and resources when the power that God holds is so much greater? Does God’s power matter if He’s already given us talent and ability? Author Dan Schaeffer explores these questions and helps us grasp the biblical truth that God longs to use our limitations to display His greatness. The Power of Weakness invites you to trust God with your abilities and inabilities and find relief from the wearying pursuit of success.

There is the animal will with no morality, simple desire-will; there is the human will, with a sense of moral duty, the obligation-will; and there is the higher will of the spiritualized man, the choice of eternal good, the will of the spirit. To the animal it is said, Follow your desires, you cannot go astray. To the naive man it is said, Obey your sense of obligation, whatever your intellect tells you is right; thus will you have a clear conscience. To the spiritualized man it is said, There is but one possible choice, that between good and evil; choose goodness and you are among the blessed. To the animal, were it able to understand, the situation is a simple and a happy one. There are no aspirations, no confusions, no doubts. To the naive man there are no aspirations; there is a sense of the unfolding of consciousness to a nobler possibility; there is a struggle between the flesh and the spirit in the battle field of the soul; there are confusions of ideas of right and wrong, intellectual doubts and changing moral standards, subtle...

Book excerpt: THE First Alcibiades is a conversation between Socrates and Alcibiades. Socrates is represented in the character which he attributes to himself in the Apology of a know-nothing who detects the conceit of knowledge in others. The two have met already in the Protagoras and in the Symposium; in the latter dialogue, as in this, the relation between them is that of a lover and his beloved. But the narrative of their loves is told differently in different places; for in the Symposium Alcibiades is depicted as the impassioned but rejected lover; here, as coldly receiving the advances of Socrates, who, for the best of purposes, lies in wait for the aspiring and ambitious youth. Book excerpt: From two influential and visionary thinkers comes a big idea that is changing the way movements catch fire and ideas spread in our highly connected world. For the vast majority of human history, power has been held by the few. "Old power" is closed, inaccessible, and leader-driven. Once gained, it is jealously guarded, and the powerful spend it carefully, like currency. But the technological revolution of the past two decades has made possible a new form of power, one that operates differently, like a current. "New power" is made by many; it is open, participatory, often leaderless, and peer-driven. Like water or electricity, it is most forceful when it surges. The goal with new power is not to hoard it, but to channel it. New power is behind the rise of participatory communities like Facebook and YouTube, sharing services like Uber and Airbnb, and rapid-fire social movements like Brexit and #BlackLivesMatter. It explains the unlikely success of Barack Obama's 2008 campaign and the unlikelier victory of Donald Trump in 2016. And it gives ISIS its power to propagate its brand and distribute its violence. Even old power institutions like the Papacy, NASA, and LEGO have tapped into the strength of the crowd to stage improbable reinventions. In New Power, the business leaders/social visionaries Jeremy Heimans and Henry Timms provide the tools for using new power to successfully spread an idea or lead a movement in the twenty-first century. Drawing on examples from business, politics, and social justice, they explain the new world we live in--a world where connectivity has made change shocking and swift and a world in which everyone expects to participate.

Book excerpt: Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this multi-million-copy New York Times bestseller is the definitive manual for anyone interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control – from the author of The Laws of Human Nature. In the book that People magazine proclaimed “beguiling” and “fascinating,” Robert Greene and Joost Elffers have distilled three thousand years of the history of power into 48 essential laws by drawing from the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, and Carl Von Clausewitz and also from the lives of figures ranging from Henry Kissinger to P.T. Barnum. Some laws teach the need for prudence (“Law 1: Never Outshine the Master”), others teach the value of confidence (“Law 28: Enter Action with Boldness”), and many recommend absolute self-preservation (“Law 15: Crush Your Enemy Totally”). Every law, though, has one thing in common: an interest in total domination. In a bold and arresting two-color package, The 48 Laws of Power is ideal whether your aim is conquest, self-defense, or simply to understand the rules of the game.

Book excerpt: A Note from Jill Briscoe Dear Friends, One paraphrase of 1 Peter 5:7 says, "You can throw the whole weight of your anxieties upon Him for you are His personal concern." Prayer and worry cannot live together. You cannot worry and pray at the same time. Prayer is the place to let your anxieties go--to hand them off to someone else, someone well able to carry them for you. God! It's hard to throw the whole weight of our anxiety upon Him isn't it? How do we do that? When I'm traveling, which seems to be constantly, I carry a briefcase full of files and books with me. It's heavy. When I'm on the road alone my back hurts by the end of the day. Often I'm with my husband, Stuart, or daughter, Judy, who hurry to take my briefcase to lift the load. I want to help so it's not an extra burden for them. Sometimes I say, "Let's both carry it. Let's share it." but the handle isn't big enough and it doesn't work. I've even been tempted to open the bag and take out some books to carry myself so it's lighter for them! But their backs are strong and well able to carry the case while my back is hurting, unable to carry it. So I throw my burden gratefully into their hands! They always smile at me because they love me and are concerned. Occasionally I refuse their kind offer of help. Why? For all sorts of reasons. I get to thinking they have their won burdens, and I should be able to carry a little briefcase filled with a few books. Or I begin to worry that they'll dread having me along because I'm such a nuisance with my moving library! I always reap the consequences of carrying the stuff myself, when guild, self-effort, pride, or stupidity lead me to refuse their helping hand. I'm sure Stuart and Judy consider me very foolish when they are walking right beside me and are willing and able to help, but I insist on going it alone. I think God thinks we are very foolish too when He has told us to hand off our heavy issues to Him and we don't. So don't forget. God is your constant travel companion along life's road. His back is big enough and strong enough for your caseload of worries. And don't be opening the bag and keeping a few books to carry yourself to make it easier on Him. Throw the whole weight of your anxieties upon Him for you are His personal concern. In His Love, Jill Briscoe For more information about Just Between Us resources, visit this page .

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "THERE IS NOTHING MORE POWERFUL OR PRECIOUS THAN LOVE."JJ Love is a winner, it's priceless. It's that everlasting power that always wins and never fails. True love is the source of happiness, prosperity and it's permanent because it's from God. God being love and omnipotent, He is also the Unifier. Therefore, anything done in unity and love is bound to be successful. In fact, "Victory is the daughter of love and unity." "Where there is no love, there is no life and no life means fatality or death." JJ Love is attractive and can only bring blessings into our lives. The world would be a much better place to live if every one of us could manifest some genuine love to one another. The human being is carnal, therefore weak and limited, that's why he needs a superior power in order to survive and prosper in this world led by the evil one. The Bible says in 1 John 5:19 that "The world is under the control of the evil one." Now because of this evil ruler, the war may never cease in this world. As a divider, he brings confusion and his plans are to separate and destroy the works of the Lord. Hatred is repulsive; it comes from the evil one and it's the source of bad thoughts, actions, trouble and diseases. The question is now living in the world, what can we do in order to stop his actions in our lives? We should simply return to the Creator of all good things, God Almighty. His plans are to love, protect, prosper and bless us (Jeremiah 29:11). By relying and trusting in the Lord for guidance, we are not only allowing love to prevail in our lives, but we are also standing for unity and assuring our future and that of our offspring. Some people are the victims of this world, because of their lack of knowledge. Hatred is a loser and love is a winner. Now who are you? Are you a winner or a loser? "IGNORANCE IS NOT DEFERENCE, IT'S A HINDRANCE" JJ THIS BOOK IS ABOUT LOVE, THE COMPLETE LOVE, AND NOTHING BUT TRUE LOVE

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over 90 percent of US power generation comes from large, centralized, highly polluting, nonrenewable sources of energy. It is delivered through long, brittle transmission lines, and then is squandered through inefficiency and waste. But it doesn't have to be that way. Communities can indeed produce their own local, renewable energy. Power from the People explores how homeowners, co-ops, nonprofit institutions, governments, and businesses are putting power in the hands of local communities through distributed energy programs and energy-efficiency measures. Using examples from around the nation - and occasionally from around the world - Greg Pahl explains how to plan, organize, finance, and launch community-scale energy projects that harvest energy from sun, wind, water, and earth. He also explains why community power is a necessary step on the path to energy security and community resilience - particularly as we face peak oil, cope with climate change, and address the need to transition to a more sustainable future. This book - the second in the Chelsea Green Publishing Company and Post Carbon Institute's Community Resilience Series - also profiles numerous communitywide initiatives that can be replicated elsewhere.

Book excerpt: The first systematic, quantitative appraisal of power density, offering detailed reviews of power densities of renewable energy flows, fossil fuels, and all common energy uses. “There's no author whose books I look forward to more than Vaclav Smil.” —Bill Gates In this book, Vaclav Smil argues that power density is a key determinant of the nature and dynamics of energy systems. Any understanding of complex energy systems must rely on quantitative measures of many fundamental variables. Power density—the rate of energy flux per unit of area—is an important but largely overlooked measure. Smil provides the first systematic, quantitative appraisal of power density, offering detailed reviews of the power densities of renewable energy flows, fossil fuels, thermal electricity generation, and all common energy uses. Smil shows that careful quantification, critical appraisals, and revealing comparisons of power densities make possible a deeper understanding of the ways we harness, convert, and use energies. Conscientious assessment of power densities, he argues, proves particularly revealing when contrasting the fossil fuel–based energy system with renewable energy conversions. Smil explains that modern civilization has evolved as a direct expression of the high power densities of fossil fuel extraction. He argues that our inevitable (and desirable) move to new energy arrangements involving conversions of lower-density renewable energy sources will require our society—currently dominated by megacities and concentrated industrial production—to undergo a profound spatial restructuring of its energy system.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A landmark book rolls out a bold, new, energy-based theory of human history based on a simple, yet powerful law: whoever controls the world's effective energy supplies during a given energy age will inevitably dominate the economic, political, and cultural history of that age. The innovative theory articulated in Sources of Power: How Energy Forges Human History parses history into four ages: the foraging, agriculture, coal, and oil ages, each defined by the dominant source of power. Manfred Weissenbacher tests this sweeping theory against the panorama of world history, combining formidable powers of synthesis with a specialist's deep understanding of energy systems and technologies. After proving the operation of his law through history and into the present, Weissenbacher applies it to global geopolitical trends. He assesses the prospects of the various candidate technologies to succeed oil and charts future scenarios based on the distribution of energy reserves. Finally, he forecasts the fates of the American and Chinese empires in the twilight of the oil age: the United States as a mature superpower forced to deploy military might to occupy oilfields in the Middle East; China as an emerging superpower forced to deploy economic might to muscle in on the development of Third World oilfields.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taking Power analyzes the causes behind some three dozen revolutions in the Third World between 1910 and the present. It advances a theory that seeks to integrate the political, economic, and cultural factors that brought these revolutions about, and links structural theorizing with original ideas on culture and agency. It attempts to explain why so few revolutions have succeeded, while so many have failed. The book is divided into chapters that treat particular sets of revolutions including the great social revolutions of Mexico 1910, China 1949, Cuba 1959, Iran 1979, and Nicaragua 1979, the anticolonial revolutions in Algeria, Vietnam, Angola, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe from the 1940s to the 1970s, and the failed revolutionary attempts in El Salvador, Peru, and elsewhere. It closes with speculation about the future of revolutions in an age of globalization, with special attention to Chiapas, the post-September 11 world, and the global justice movement.
