Book Synopsis A Goodness-of-fit Test for Semi-parametric Copula Models for Bivariate Censored Data by : Jimin Shin

This book was released on 2020 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, we suggest a goodness-of-fit test for semi-parametric copula models. We extended the pseudo in-and-out-sample (PIOS) test proposed in [17], which is based on the PIOS test in [28]. The PIOS test is constructed by comparing the pseudo "in-sample" likelihood and pseudo "out-of-sample" likelihood. Our contribution is two-fold. First, we use the approximate test statistics instead of the exact test statistics to alleviate the computational burden of calculating the test statistics. Secondly, we propose a parametric bootstrap procedure to approximate the distribution of the test statistic. Unlike the nonparametric bootstrap which resamples from the original data, the parametric procedure resamples the data from the copula model under the null hypothesis. We conduct simulation studies to investigate the performance of the approximate test statistic and parametric bootstrap. The results show that the parametric bootstrap presents higher test power with a well-controlled type I error compared to the nonparametric bootstrap.
Book Synopsis An Adaptive Specification Test For Semiparametric Models by : Juan Manuel Rodriguez-Poo
Download or read book An Adaptive Specification Test For Semiparametric Models written by Juan Manuel Rodriguez-Poo and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper introduces a new test of a semiparametric model of a conditional density function against a fully nonparametric alternative. This test is motivated by the fact that many important econometric models need to be estimated through maximum likelihood type procedures, e.g. semiparametric limited dependent variable models. This specification is also important for prediction purposes. Our test statistic combines the methodology of goodness of fit tests and nonparametric methods and the specific difficulty we focus here comes from the fact that we consider a semiparametric null hypothesis and the test statistic depends on a bandwidth parameter that needs to be estimated from the data. In order to handle the previous difficulties we introduce a data adaptive testing procedure that enables us to select the bandwidth parameter in such a way that it maximizes the power of the test. It is also shown that this procedure handles properly the bias problem generated by the introduction of a semiparametric model under the null. The distribution of the standarized test statistic is approximated under the null by both bootstrap and subsampling methods and its power is studied against local alternatives to the null hypothesis. We discuss practical issues for the application statistics and illustrate in an intensive monte carlo study both the feasibility and the performance of the procedure in finite samples of moderate size.

This book was released on 2012-11-12 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the modern theory of nonparametric goodness-of-fit testing. It fills the gap in modern nonparametric statistical theory by discussing hypothesis testing and addresses mathematical statisticians who are interesting in the theory of non-parametric statistical inference. It will be of interest to specialists who are dealing with applied non-parametric statistical problems relevant in signal detection and transmission and in technical and medical diagnostics among others.
Book Synopsis The Frailty Model by : Luc Duchateau
Download or read book The Frailty Model written by Luc Duchateau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-10-23 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Readers will find in the pages of this book a treatment of the statistical analysis of clustered survival data. Such data are encountered in many scientific disciplines including human and veterinary medicine, biology, epidemiology, public health and demography. A typical example is the time to death in cancer patients, with patients clustered in hospitals. Frailty models provide a powerful tool to analyze clustered survival data. In this book different methods based on the frailty model are described and it is demonstrated how they can be used to analyze clustered survival data. All programs used for these examples are available on the Springer website.

Book Synopsis Goodness-of-Fit Statistics for Discrete Multivariate Data by : Timothy R.C. Read

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The statistical analysis of discrete multivariate data has received a great deal of attention in the statistics literature over the past two decades. The develop ment ofappropriate models is the common theme of books such as Cox (1970), Haberman (1974, 1978, 1979), Bishop et al. (1975), Gokhale and Kullback (1978), Upton (1978), Fienberg (1980), Plackett (1981), Agresti (1984), Goodman (1984), and Freeman (1987). The objective of our book differs from those listed above. Rather than concentrating on model building, our intention is to describe and assess the goodness-of-fit statistics used in the model verification part of the inference process. Those books that emphasize model development tend to assume that the model can be tested with one of the traditional goodness-of-fit tests 2 2 (e.g., Pearson's X or the loglikelihood ratio G ) using a chi-squared critical value. However, it is well known that this can give a poor approximation in many circumstances. This book provides the reader with a unified analysis of the traditional goodness-of-fit tests, describing their behavior and relative merits as well as introducing some new test statistics. The power-divergence family of statistics (Cressie and Read, 1984) is used to link the traditional test statistics through a single real-valued parameter, and provides a way to consolidate and extend the current fragmented literature. As a by-product of our analysis, a new 2 2 statistic emerges "between" Pearson's X and the loglikelihood ratio G that has some valuable properties.
Book Synopsis Lack-of-Fit Tests in Semiparametric Mixed Models by : Gerda Claeskens
Download or read book Lack-of-Fit Tests in Semiparametric Mixed Models written by Gerda Claeskens and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper we obtain the asymptotic distribution of restricted likelihood ratio tests in mixed linear models with a fixed and finite number of random effects. We explain why for such models the often quoted 50:50 mixture of a chi-s quared random variable with one degree of freedom and a point mass at zero does not hold. Our motivation is a study of the use of wavelets for lack-of-fit testing within a mixed model framework. Even though wavelet shave received a lot of attention in the last say 15 years for the estimation of piecewise smooth functions, much less is known about their ability to check the adequacy of a parametric model when fitting the observed data. In particular we study the testing power of wavelets for testing a hypothesized parametric model within a mixed model framework. Experimental results show that in several situations the wavelet-based test significantly outperforms the com-petitor based on penalized regression splines. The obtained results are also applicable for testing in mixed models in general, and shed some new insight into previous results.
Book Synopsis Goodness-of-fit Tests in Measurement Error Models with Replications by : Weijia Jia
Download or read book Goodness-of-fit Tests in Measurement Error Models with Replications written by Weijia Jia and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this dissertation, goodness-of-fit tests are proposed for checking the adequacy of parametric distributional forms of the regression error density functions and the error-prone predictor density function in measurement error models, when replications of the surrogates of the latent variables are available. In the first project, we propose goodness-of-fit tests on the density function of the regression error in the errors-in-variables model. Instead of assuming that the distribution of the measurement error is known as is done in most relevant literature, we assume that replications of the surrogates of the latent variables are available. The test statistic is based upon a weighted integrated squared distance between a nonparametric estimate and a semi-parametric estimate of the density functions of certain residuals. Under the null hypothesis, the test statistic is shown to be asymptotically normal. Consistency and local power results of the proposed test under fixed alternatives and local alternatives are also established. Finite sample performance of the proposed test is evaluated via simulation studies. A real data example is also included to demonstrate the application of the proposed test. In the second project, we propose a class of goodness-of-fit tests for checking the parametric distributional forms of the error-prone random variables in the classic additive measurement error models. We also assume that replications of the surrogates of the error-prone variables are available. The test statistic is based upon a weighted integrated squared distance between a non-parametric estimator and a semi-parametric estimator of the density functions of the averaged surrogate data. Under the null hypothesis, the minimum distance estimator of the distribution parameters and the test statistics are shown to be asymptotically normal. Consistency and local power of the proposed tests under fixed alternatives and local alternatives are also established. Finite sample performance of the proposed tests is evaluated via simulation studies.
