Book excerpt: A piercing, unforgettable love story set in Greenwood, Oklahoma, also known as the “Black Wall Street,” and against the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921. Isaiah Wilson is, on the surface, a town troublemaker, but is hiding that he is an avid reader and secret poet, never leaving home without his journal. Angel Hill is a loner, mostly disregarded by her peers as a goody-goody. Her father is dying, and her family’s financial situation is in turmoil. Though they’ve attended the same schools, Isaiah never noticed Angel as anything but a dorky, Bible toting church girl. Then their English teacher offers them a job on her mobile library, a three-wheel, two-seater bike. Angel can’t turn down the money and Isaiah is soon eager to be in such close quarters with Angel every afternoon. But life changes on May 31, 1921 when a vicious white mob storms the Black community of Greenwood, leaving the town destroyed and thousands of residents displaced. Only then, Isaiah, Angel, and their peers realize who their real enemies are.

Her childhood stolen from her, she quickly matures and in the process discovers she has psychic gifts. She develops a relationship with the ghost of a professor, who becomes her spirit guide. He in turn enlists her aid on a mission of salvation for the Jewish people. As well as helping her survive in the brutal conditions of the camp, he teaches Natasza the secret of healing and how to move past anger toward compassion. She forms the Sisters of Light, a group of young women who, although they have few medicines to offer, bring gifts of love and forgiveness to their fellow prisoners. They form a bond of the heart that sustains them and keeps them connected through the horror of their daily existence. Author Tarra Light was raised in an East Coast Jewish family but had little knowledge of the Holocaust while growing up. During past-life regression therapy in 1996, she began to access a previous life as an inmate at Auschwitz. Her newly unlocked memories form the basis of this eloquent testimony to the power of the spirit in the most dire circumstances.
Book Synopsis Adam, Eve, and the Devil by : Marjo C. A. Korpel
Download or read book Adam, Eve, and the Devil written by Marjo C. A. Korpel and published by . This book was released on 2014-04 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the authors develop an intriguing theory about the Canaanite origin of the biblical traditions concerning the origin of the cosmos and the creation of humankind. Adam, Eve, and the Devil tells a new story about human beginnings and at the same time proposes a fresh start for biblical research into primordial traditions. A number of clay tablets from Ugarit, dating from the late thirteenth century BCE, throw new light, Korpel and de Moor argue, on the background of the first chapters of Genesis and the myth of Adam. In these tablets, El, the creator deity, and his wife Asherah lived in a vineyard or garden on the slopes of Mt Ararat, known in the Bible as the mountain where Noah's ark came to rest. The first sinner was not a human being, but an evil god called Horon who wanted to depose El. Horon was thrown down from the mountain of the gods, and in revenge he transformed the Tree of Life in the garden into a Tree of Death and enveloped the whole world in a poisonous fog. Adam was sent down to restore life on earth, but failed because Horon in the form of a huge serpent bit him. As a result Adam and his wife lost their immortality. This myth found its way into the Bible, the Apocrypha and the Pseudepigraphical literature, though it was often transformed or treated critically. Adam, Eve, and the Devil traces the reception of the myth in its many forms, and also presents the oldest pictures of Adam and Eve ever identified (one of them on the front cover of the book).

Book Synopsis As an Angel of Light by : Brian McCallum
Download or read book As an Angel of Light written by Brian McCallum and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "But I fear lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ." --2 Corinthians 11:3 (NKJV) Satan works through deception to gain a foothold in the life of a human being, including believers. Being subtle he does not announce his presence or what he is doing. We need to know what he does and how he does it to identify his activities. God's Word is our effectual and best help in overcoming him. It's important for Christians to understand how the devil operates. Not so they become devil-conscious and look for a demon behind every bush or under every stone;but so they can recognize the devil's activity and know how to deal with him scripturally. In As an Angel of Light, Brian McCallum shows us who we are in Christ and the authority Christ gave us through His death and resurrection. Rev. McCallum then reveals who Satan is, the many devices he uses, and most importantly, the limited power with which he can operate. By understanding how Jesus defeated Satan on the Cross and by standing in Christ's authority, we can be victorious over all the schemes of the devil!
