It was a decade when Malc should have been enjoying peace and tranquillity. Instead, it proved to be exactly the opposite; a period of turmoil, death threats and danger. It's a story involving the curse of alcoholism, a major currency counterfeiting operation, seduction, deceit, betrayal and murder. It's also a wonderful guide to good cycling, pubs and campsites in the Yorkshire Dales and other parts of the North of England. An exciting and absorbing read from start to finish.

There begins the narration—the life of Badri Baldawa—as told by him, punctuated by the many sights and stops on their 72 days self-drive road trip to London. Nine-year-old Nishi is the medium through which we explore the events that shaped Badri’s never-back-down philosophy in an unusually exciting life. “I have enjoyed hearing about many of the other adventures Badri has undertaken and I believe he still has many more to come.” -Allan Mallory

Book Synopsis My Inflatable Friend by : Gerald Everett Jones
Download or read book My Inflatable Friend written by Gerald Everett Jones and published by LaPuerta Books and Media. This book was released on 2018-09-19 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trying to make your girlfriend jealous with a life-sized rubber doll might be a bad idea. A reformed hacker-turned-slacker, twenty-something Rollo Hemphill fantasizes about becoming a top-forty DJ. Unfortunately, he has more talent than ambition. He's settled for a menial job as a car jockey at "The Wuthering Palms," a luxury hotel in Beverly Hills. Proximity to all that glitz and glamour soon stirs his attraction to Felicia Ferrulo, the Sicilian hottie who works in the hotel beauty shop. When Felicia doesn't give him a nod, much less a chance, Rollo devises a desperate plan. It involves dressing up a life-sized doll to look like one of the hotel's reclusive megastar residents and conspicuously driving the fake woman around town in borrowed vehicles. Inspiring jealousy is his goal, but it quickly gets waaaaaaay out of hand. Rollo's clever scheme backfires with stunning success, causing him to fall upward with dizzying speed - as he rockets toward the stars but away from the girl of his dreams. Rollo's fumbling attempts to undo his tangled web is, by turns, pathetic and hysterically funny. My Inflatable Friend is a witty, cautionary tale about the perils of pretending to be someone you're not - and the hazards of stroking every male's most private and vulnerable part - his swelling ego! - "Fast, funny, and sufficiently out there to be banned in Pasadena. Check with your doctor before reading." - Peter Lefcourt, author of The Woody and The Manhattan Beach Project "While the entire story is built on the most unbelievable and unrealistic of scenarios, this book is not intended to aim for an award in journalism. What it is, however, is an entrée into the land of the ridiculous, and I just couldn’t stop laughing. An extremely humorous, excruciatingly funny account of one poor soul as he attempts to win the heart of his beloved (whom he has never even gotten a first date with!). Hold onto your stomach because you’ll be laughing so hard you won’t be able to catch your breath!" - The International Review of Books "Gentlemen, this is a book for every one of us that has had a glorious, highly sexual relationship, albeit imaginary, with the most beautiful woman in the world. Unbelievably funny, unexpected, and very challenging for our boy Rollo. An entertaining read... recommended for those who like a good laugh." - Dan Whitman, Allbooks Review "Straddles the line between outright drawing-room silliness and romantic comedy... You may root for the charmingly dense Rollo." – Kirkus "Should be read aloud before large groups for maximum effect. Do not invite your wife or girlfriend." - Marvin J. Wolf, co-writer, Ladies' Night, USA Networks "Being single and on the make is tough enough when you've had some experience, even if it ended badly. But seeing poor Rollo go splat, it hurts so well when I laugh!" - Tom Blake, syndicated columnist, "Single Again," Orange County Register

Download or read book A Fighting Chance written by Patti Witter and published by BookCountry. This book was released on 2013-06-07 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of a perfect quarter horse filly named Cricketts Rose; a calm natured gelding named Red; a disabled owner who couldn’t even have them in her name, Amanda; and a million-dollar race that Cricketts Rose knows she is meant to win. Red and Amanda never doubt Cricketts Rose, of course. Now, Cricketts Rose and Red would want you to know that the only thing that isn’t fiction in this novel is what good horses they really were. What happened to Cricketts Rose’s mother and a little of what it is like to be disabled, poor and trying to have something. There are good-looking cowboys, dancing and that kind of stuff in the story too. Cricketts Rose and Red reckon that the amateur writer who is writing their story would be me, Patti Witter, a.k.a. Amanda. The novel is set from September 16, 1983 to September 16, 1984, when Cricketts Rose turned two. You won’t believe what can happen in a year’s time. Did she win? Are you kidding? I wrote the story!
Download or read book Promiscuous written by Bernard Avishai and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2012-04-24 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The publication of Portnoy’s Complaint in 1969 provoked instant, powerful reactions. It blasted Philip Roth into international fame, subjected him to unrelenting personal scrutiny and conjecture, and shocked legions of readers—some delighted, others appalled. Portnoy and other main characters became instant archetypes, and Roth himself became a touchstone for conflicting attitudes toward sexual liberation, Jewish power, political correctness, Freudian language, and bourgeois disgust. What about this book inspired Richard Lacayo of Time to describe it as “a literary instance of shock and awe,” and the Modern Library to list it among the 100 best English-language novels of the twentieth century? Bernard Avishai offers a witty exploration of Roth’s satiric masterpiece, based on the prolific novelist's own writings, teaching notes, and personal interviews. In addition to discussing the book’s timing, rhetorical gambit, and sheer virtuousity, Avishai includes a chapter on the Jewish community’s outrage over the book and how Roth survived it, and another on the author’s scorching treatment of psychoanalysis. Avishai shows that Roth’s irreverent novel left us questioning who, or what, was the object of the satire. Hilariously, it proved the serious ways we construct fictions about ourselves and others.

Book Synopsis Playing the Bass with Three Left Hands by : Will Carruthers
Download or read book Playing the Bass with Three Left Hands written by Will Carruthers and published by Faber & Faber. This book was released on 2016-08-30 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I can confirm that should you ever find yourself on stage playing the bass guitar with tree left hands, it is usually the one in the middle that is the real one. The other two are probably phantoms. Playing the Bass with Three Left Hands tells the story of one of the most influential, revered and ultimately demented British bands of the 1980s, Spacemen 3. In classic rock n roll style they split up on the brink of their major breakthrough. As the decade turned sour and acid house hit the news, Rugby's finest imploded spectacularly, with Jason Pierce (aka Jason Spaceman) and Pete Kember (aka Sonic Boom) going their separate ways. Here, Will Carruthers tells the whole sorry story and the segue into Spirtualised in one of the funniest and most memorable memoirs committed to the page.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For fans of Dana Stabenow and The Frozen Ground, Richard Chiappone's debut novel is a chilling chase through rural Alaska, in which a woman running from her past must outwit the deadly assassins on her tail. Thirty-something Carla Merino finds herself living in her camper shell in Homer, Alaska, waitressing to stay afloat and hiding from ruthless billionaire military contractor Gordon McKint, who has a secretive personal army and eyes on the presidency. McKint is determined to recover a memento Carla acquired on a one-night-stand that went terribly wrong—an item that could bring his whole world down. When McKint’s men track her to Homer she leaves for another hideout by boat, unprepared and unaware of the dangerous Alaskan weather headed her way. Cosmo D'Angelo (a former CIA gunslinger) is a man grieving his daughter, living with the sins of his past, and in search of a certain woman (and a good meal) in small-town Alaska. In the era of political secrets and deep fake technology, he was foolish to let Carla take a memento of their tryst. Now, he needs to get it back before McKint’s men find her. Scott Crockett is a stand-up guy, nursing a broken heart, out fishing alone. But when he finds an overturned boat and a nearly-drowned woman in the rough water, his life will get infinitely more complicated—and dangerous. Together he and Carla must outwit the professional killers sent to recover the deadly memento that threatens both McKint's political career and her life.
