Fearing death, she questions wheatear God wants her or not. Guiding her on this journey are the likes of Alice in Wonderland , movie stars, and dead relatives. They force her into accepting her own mortality, even as she attends her own funeral. The story is told from her hospital bed by way of flashbacks. Among her flashbacks are visits to the Joe McCarthy and Apartheid era of the 1940-50 s. There is humor, beginning with Bobby Darin s Splish-Splash recording, to assisting the airline pilot in landing the plane, and tears as she relives her kidnapping and other childhood molestations. She discovers her own mechanisms of surviving.
Download or read book Behind The Faith written by Tony Mariot and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-10-17 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We should not base our beliefs on some emotional experience we had, which we cannot really explain with any substance, other than to attribute the experience to something we want to believe was spiritual or God-inspired. This choice, belief and faith, should not be an unexplainable gut feeling or some thought shrouded in a cosmic concept of God that is neither specific nor explainable. Neither should we hide behind peer pressure that makes us feel guilty if we denied having any real belief in the existence of God at all. None of these aspects are the basis to knowing anything, let alone foundations of a faith. The question then becomes, how do we know what is true and what to believe on the ground where we live? What are the facts and what is folklore? How can we know for certain? This writing is intended to discuss what is biblically spoken of behind the faith of what Christians believe. It is not, however, about conspiracies in the church or an attempt to air any dirty laundry. The book of Revelation was chosen as the principle text of this discourse because it is intermingled throughout Scripture like no other. It provides seamless segues that will open up opportunities to address other related questions in Scripture as we examine what is behind the faith.
Book Synopsis JENNY OF OKRASHIRE BOOK 1 by : James H Moerschel
Download or read book JENNY OF OKRASHIRE BOOK 1 written by James H Moerschel and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-12-21 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jenny of Okrashire is a spiritual adventure of a bright-eyed precocious six-year-old girl who, as an infant, was found by a farmer sleeping in an okra patch. Her origin was unknown, a mystery to all, and she was raised by her adoptive family. Okrashire is a sixteenth-century hamlet isolated by a large dark forest, and its inhabitants incur a mundane attitude. The elders shun one another, keep to themselves, and lead lives of little faith and hope. Little Jenny changes that attitude as she follows every word of the fairy of faith, who gives advice in her dreams. Jenny’s world is filled with challenges, but her wishes are to help others, and she asks nothing in return; she stays true to her heart and spreads the word of God to all. The author uses his characters to convey this very message to the readers in a very high-spirited adventurous story that is very uplifting and educational. From the dawn of time, mankind has looked to God’s creatures for signs of hope. Mr. Moerschel has woven mythology with facts in a very adventurous story as Jenny spreads God’s message of love, hope, and faith to hamlets near and far and, of course, her beloved hamlet Okrashire. In the third story, Enlightenment, everyone is enlightened. The reader learns the answers to the mysteries in the first two stories, and Jenny, with her unlikely friend, ventures to the deep, dark forest. The fairy of faith meets them in the place of perfection and explains their origin, and in a compelling, spiritual way, their destiny is realized. Children of all ages will fall in love with little Jenny and feel as if they are living with her in a transformed society in Okrashire.

Book Synopsis God, Spirit, and Human Wholeness by : Elochukwu Eugene Uzukwu
Download or read book God, Spirit, and Human Wholeness written by Elochukwu Eugene Uzukwu and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-03-09 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Holy Spirit provides access to relationship with and reflection on the Triune God. In West Africa, Christians approach the Triune God in a way that challenges the Jewish-Christian memory. Deeply rooted in their ancestral memory, where living is relationality, they embrace the Trinitarian faith, the economy of the relational God-Christ-Spirit, by expanding and reinventing their indigenous experience of God, deities, spirits, and ancestors. Christian faith-practice is marked by the spectacular dominance of the Holy Spirit, whose charisms reflect the operations of deities. African Initiated Churches (AICs), Protestant and Catholic charismatic movements, experience God-Spirit's liberating and healing hand for the enhancement and realization of communal and individual destiny (what one expects from a concerned providential deity). This book argues that the emergent West African Trinitarian imagination is in harmony with Hebrew insight into the One and Only Yahweh of the patriarchs that assumed the dimensions of Elohim, God--experienced as a sound of sheer silence by Elijah, and proposed in utter weakness as the Only God by Deutero-Isaiah--the God that Jesus called Abba, Father. As Spirit and Life, the Holy Spirit, which is the source of all charisms (Origen), is our link to the Trinity.

Cathy Flaherty is rediscovering the grins and groans of the dating game. The spunky single mother of three teenagers, she's also learning the urgency of instilling sound values in her children as they attend public school. Sylvia Bryan is an empty-nester. Now that her children are gone, she struggles with a gnawing lack of meaning. Her husband, Harry, wants to become a medical missionary. But for Sylvia, the best part of life seems like nothing but a memory. Brenda Dodd faces an uncertain future. Her nine-year-old son is getting sicker, and there seems to be nothing they can do. It is every mother's nightmare -- a child who will die unless he receives a heart transplant. As the women of Cedar Circle band together to save a dying child, they learn that each moment is precious in every season under the heaven. Taking the best and worst of human circumstances -- the tender moments, the laughter, the tragedies, and the triumphs -- Beverly LaHaye and Terri Blackstock weave from them a poignant, warmly human novel. Gently uncovering the inner struggles, stresses, and joys that surface among neighbors living in a quiet cul-de-sac, the authors show us the power of ordinary lives being knit into a strong, many-textured fabric of family and friendships. Seasons Under Heaven depicts the deepest emotions of a woman's heart, and those circumstances, both thrilling and tragic, that test and strengthen Christian faith.
Book Synopsis A Message from Heaven by : Linda Clay Anderson
Download or read book A Message from Heaven written by Linda Clay Anderson and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-03-02 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A family's love is the best kind of love. It is the first love we learn through our parents and siblings. God express his love for us when he gave his only son to save us. Life is a challenge; sometimes the choices and chances we take are wrong, and then there are the ones we learn from that makes us strong. Don't be so quick to give up on one another. You never know when the road will curve in your life. Family or not, be kind and respectful to one another, 'cause in the blink of an eye, things can change. Stop holding on to hate and letting hate take over. Jeanette made the choice to leave and get help for her addiction. She took the chance on putting it off until later. We aren't the judge of one another, so we cannot say or assume she was too late to turn around. What took place between her and God is unknown. Losing Jeanette was a very hard chapter in our lives. Raising her four daughters with so much sadness, hurt, and anger wasn't easy for us. We managed to keep all four girls within the family; holding on to God's grace, we gave plenty of love and patience to raise these four beautiful girls. No one can predict what will happen in our lifetime. We will lose loved ones and friends along the way. Whether it's by a violent crime, accident, sickness, or old age, it will cause deep pain. These four girls lost their mother at a very young age and with no father to lean on. Now they are grown and raising families of their own. A couple's love is a special bond between two people, but to find a special person is to have a bond with God. You can pray to God day and night, but if you aren't living right, he won't hear you. No one is perfect, but to do your best by living by his word, and he will overlook the rest. He loves us unconditionally that is why he laid down on the cross for us. I myself had given up on love because of so many broken promises and failed relationships. I felt this late in life, love wasn't in the stars for me, so I turned it over to God and left it there. And just when I thought all was lost, there he was, an old friend whom I once had the sparkles of a thousand stars for but never expressed it. To me, the time we lost touch had never happened, about four years or so. He was still that tall, handsome, warm-spirited gentleman I met years ago. We continue being friends like no time had passed until he said six words that will be forever imbedded in my heart, "You know I like you, right?" From there, a beautiful relationship was started.

Book excerpt: Building on recent engagements with Barth in the area of theologies of religion, Karl Barth and Comparative Theology inaugurates a new conversation between Barth’s theology and comparative theology. Each essay brings Barth into conversation with theological claims from other religious traditions for the purpose of modeling deep learning across religious borders from a Barthian perspective. For each tradition, two Barth-influenced theologians offer focused engagements of Barth with the tradition’s respective themes and figures, and a response from a theologian from that tradition then follows. With these surprising and stirringly creative exchanges, Karl Barth and Comparative Theology promises to open up new trajectories for comparative theology. Contributors: Chris Boesel, Francis X. Book excerpt: From Cherie Priest, the award-winning author of Maplecroft, comes a new tale of Lizzie Borden’s continuing war against the cosmic horrors threatening humanity… Birmingham, Alabama is infested with malevolence. Prejudice and hatred have consumed the minds and hearts of its populace. A murderer, unimaginatively named “Harry the Hacker” by the press, has been carving up citizens with a hatchet. And from the church known as Chapelwood, an unholy gospel is being spread by a sect that worships dark gods from beyond the heavens. This darkness calls to Lizzie Borden. It is reminiscent of an evil she had dared hoped was extinguished. The parishioners of Chapelwood plan to sacrifice a young woman to summon beings never meant to share reality with humanity. An apocalypse will follow in their wake which will scorch the earth of all life. Unless she stops it…
Book Synopsis When God went from Absolute Zero to 98.6 by : Art Compere
Download or read book When God went from Absolute Zero to 98.6 written by Art Compere and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2018-01-15 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents my view of God and his relationship to what he created. God is totally good and wants all people to turn from evil and live good lives, putting their trust in his Son Jesus. But making Jesus Lord and Master of our lives does not provide immunity against what naturally happens in a world that has gone bad. The Evil One has a strong foothold on Planet Earth and causes trouble by getting his followers to make bad things happen to good people. God's love for us is shown through his Comforter, who gathers us in his arms and carries us close to his heart. God also shows his love by providing a place for us in his Kingdom his Son Jesus will eventually reign over. God himself causes some disasters to remind us not to store up treasures on earth. We look upon birth defects, crippling diseases, painful mishaps, and torture in concentration camps as God's way to let us see what happens to those cast into outer darkness where there is suffering with no sympathy or relief. This book presents God as totally good and ready and willing to provide good things for us.
