Book Synopsis A Study of the Petroleum Potential and Regional Petroleum Prospectivity of the Deer Lake Group and Howley Formation on Permits 93-103 and 93-104, Deer Lake Basin by :
Download or read book A Study of the Petroleum Potential and Regional Petroleum Prospectivity of the Deer Lake Group and Howley Formation on Permits 93-103 and 93-104, Deer Lake Basin written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents a study of how petroleum might have been generated & preserved in traps between two permit areas in the Deer Lake Basin of western Newfoundland. The report focusses on three aspects of determining the petroleum potential of any basin: the potential reservoirs and the reservoir characteristics (particularly porosity) that might be predicted; the existence of rich source rocks in the basin at appropriate depths to attain maturity & to charge reservoirs under optimum burial conditions; and the availability of traps when the bulk of the oil migrated, & their preservation during the subsequent basin history. The report begins with background on the regional geology, the regional petroleum potential of the Maritimes Basin, and the history of investigation in the Deer Lake Basin. It then describes the methods of the current investigation, which included examination of core, petrography, collection of degraded hydrocarbons, and collection of samples of a source rock candidate. Finally, the information is interpreted with regard to source rock maturation, porosity studies, events leading to petroleum accumulation, potential trapping scenarios, and risks associated with petroleum prospecting.
Book Synopsis Geology of the Appalachian—Caledonian Orogen in Canada and Greenland by : Harold Williams
Download or read book Geology of the Appalachian—Caledonian Orogen in Canada and Greenland written by Harold Williams and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 1995 with total page 951 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume focuses on the Canadian Appalachian region. The chapter on the East Greenland Caledonides stands alone and there is no attempt to integrate the geological accounts of the two far removed regions. Rocks of the Canadian Appalachian region are described under four broad temporal divisions: lower Paleozoic and older, middle Paleozoic, upper Paleozoic, and Mesozoic. The rocks of these temporal divisions define geographic zones, belts, basins, and graben, respectively. The area is of special interest because so many modern concepts of mountain building are based on Appalachian rocks & structures.

Book Synopsis Shale Oil and Gas Production Processes by : James G. Speight
Download or read book Shale Oil and Gas Production Processes written by James G. Speight and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2019-11-18 with total page 1048 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shale Oil and Gas Production Processes delivers the basics on current production technologies and the processing and refining of shale oil. Starting with the potential of formations and then proceeding to production and completion, this foundational resource also dives into the chemical and physical nature of the precursor of oil shale, kerogen, to help users understand and optimize its properties in shale. Rounding out with reporting, in situ retorting, refining and environmental aspects, this book gives engineers and managers a strong starting point on how to manage the challenges and processes necessary for the further development of these complex resources. - Helps readers grasp current research on production from shale formations, including properties and composition - Fill in the gaps between research and practical application, including discussions of existing literature - Includes a glossary to help readers fully understand key concepts

Book excerpt: A review of the extensive advances made in the understanding the petroleum geology of the Atlantic margin of northwest Europe, of the North Sea and of adjacent areas since the;ast conference in 1992. In particular, the volume focuses on: the development of and application of 3D seismic, time-lapse ('4D') and other innovative seismic tools; the ongoing refinement of sequence and other stratigraphic approaches, including the integration of detailed biostratigraphic data; the development of modelling at both the reservoir and basin scale which can respond to new data acquisition and be used to assess uncertainties at the reservoir scale and scenarios at the basin scale.
