Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As I See It is a journey of mind, body, and spirit by veterinarian, Tom Schell, DVM. Over the course of his career, adulthood, and parenthood, Dr. Schell began to question the many things in his life. What is the purpose? What are we supposed to be doing? What is the true path to health for my patients and for myself? What is death and what does it mean? Does being a Christian imply that we just go to church, or is there something more? Are we missing the point taught to us by Jesus, caught up in the perception of the person, and missing the overall message? Does spirituality go beyond what we have been taught in the Bible? Can we create change for ourselves and for others around us? In these pages, Dr. Schell relays his thoughts on a variety of topics as he pondered his own life, interacted with people, and watched over countless patients. The simple power of observation can sometimes lead us to many answers in our lives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Dont Call Me A Cab! Call Me A Therapist! is certainly not an Oprah Book Club winner, but it doesnt pretend to be..Mertens aims to entertain and he certainly succeeds" - Meghan Stephens - Lake Central Scout Newspaper Book Review, IN (5-02-02) "Dont Call Me A Cab! Call Me A Therapist! explores a mans bizarre relationships formed with others" - Larry McCarthy, The Times Newspapers Book Review, IN (5-27-01) "In most books, main characters usually have names, not in W.R. Mertens book....refreshing change" - Herald-News Book Review, IL (6-15-01) "The man has neighbors who host teenage parties with scantily clad - sexy girl dancers as entertainment - a great book!" - C. Claessens, Chicago, IL Following in the style of the late Erma Bombeck, his book, outling the sometimes serious, sometimes very humourous trip by a young man to his therapists couch, spouts off about various problems, relatives, friends and best of all, his employment at a community college. The main character, who is never named in the book, nor is the therapist, tells his "doctor" whats troubling him. He goes on to talk about everything from having relatives which he really cant deal with, but trys to. His aunt and grandmother are among some of the more humourous characters in the first section of the book, where the aunt is akin to Adolph Hitler and the grandmother wears cooked spaghetti in meat sauce ever so attractively on her head during a visit from her parish priest. Other characters abound in this delightful book of wisdom and insight into what could possibly be a normal, dysfunctional family, but its not. The parish priest is a loony, grandmothers housekeeper is to be believed, and the mans employer/supervisors are either drunken fools, openly gay or just out and out related to the mob in a mixed web of corruption. "A delightfully enjoyable book, funny but sad at the same time" - E. Kallay of IN.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fewer than one hundred outsiders have joined the Old-Order Amish--and stayed--since 1950. Marlene C. Miller is one of them. In this rare memoir, Marlene recounts her unhappy and abusive childhood, how she throws herself into cheerleading and marching band, and how she falls in love with Johnny, the gentle young Amish man who helps her lace her ice skates. Against the wishes of both sets of parents, Marlene and Johnny get married and begin a family. Follow the author on this unusual journey to find out how God’s love called her out of bitterness and depression and into the warm embrace of her new Amish community. Accompany her as she dons an Amish dress and prayer covering and gets baptized. Learn how she endures the strain of ten children, a hundred-acre farm, and accidents and tragedy, and find out how she comes close to walking away from it all. Turning Amish has proven to be anything but plain and simple for this former majorette. But nearly fifty years later, Marlene is still living out God’s call as an Old Order Amish woman.

Book excerpt: You can call me Ryan is book one of a seven part series called "the Unity of the Faith series". Unity of the Faith is a concept laid out by the Apostle Paul in Ephesians chapter 4. This book follows Ryan, a 38-year-old bakery chain owner, who is brought back to God by a series of hard to ignore events. God calls Ryan to be a modern day prophet and member of the foretold 144,000 army of God as prophesied in the Book of Revelation. God helps Ryan fix the things that ail him in his life that Ryan didn't even understand were holding him back. Ryan tries to emulate the Apostle Paul but discovers he is something altogether different and God gives Ryan the opportunity to lead a modern day Pentecost as the Apocalypse begins. David Campion describes himself as a very common man. Writing has always been somewhat of a hobby for him and he says that he never saw himself as an author. Instead he always thought more of himself as a father, husband and friend first. He describes himself as privately spiritual but discovered a love of writing as an outlet for expressing his faith in God. David's first professional writing experience came as a member of the United States Army as a broadcast and print journalist. He has permanent veteran status and is extremely proud of his service to his country. David says his motives for writing, are from a deep felt empathy for his fellow Christians and country. That his deepest desires are to see Christians put aside what separates them and join together in their common love of Christ and to therefore be able to return his country to being a true Christian nation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the American Civil War, songs united and inspired people on both sides. The North had a well-established music publishing industry when the war broke out, but the South had no such industry. The importance of music as an expression of the South's beliefs was obvious; as one music publisher said, "The South must not only fight her own battles but sing her own songs and dance to music composed by her own children." Southern entrepreneurs quickly rose to the challenge. This reference book is distinguished by three major differences from previously published works. First, it lists sheet music that is no longer extant (and listed nowhere else). Second, it gives complete lyrics for all extant songs, a rich source for researchers. And third, a brief historical background has been provided for many of the songs. Each entry provides as much of the following as possible (staying faithful to the typography of each title page): the title as published, names of all lyricists, composers and publishers; dates of publication; cities of publication; and if applicable, the names of catalogs or magazines in which the song appeared. Music published in Southern cities under Federal occupation is excluded.

Book excerpt: A National Best Seller! Calling Me Home by Julie Kibler is a soaring debut interweaving the story of a heartbreaking, forbidden love in 1930s Kentucky with an unlikely modern-day friendship Eighty-nine-year-old Isabelle McAllister has a favor to ask her hairdresser Dorrie Curtis. It's a big one. Isabelle wants Dorrie, a black single mom in her thirties, to drop everything to drive her from her home in Arlington, Texas, to a funeral in Cincinnati. With no clear explanation why. Tomorrow. Dorrie, fleeing problems of her own and curious whether she can unlock the secrets of Isabelle's guarded past, scarcely hesitates before agreeing, not knowing it will be a journey that changes both their lives. Over the years, Dorrie and Isabelle have developed more than just a business relationship. They are friends. But Dorrie, fretting over the new man in her life and her teenage son's irresponsible choices, still wonders why Isabelle chose her. Isabelle confesses that, as a willful teen in 1930s Kentucky, she fell deeply in love with Robert Prewitt, a would-be doctor and the black son of her family's housekeeper—in a town where blacks weren't allowed after dark. The tale of their forbidden relationship and its tragic consequences makes it clear Dorrie and Isabelle are headed for a gathering of the utmost importance and that the history of Isabelle's first and greatest love just might help Dorrie find her own way.

I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would be writing a book. I realize I can step out on faith with the courage to talk about my life. Along with the choices that Ive made, which have made me very strong through most of my journey? It has taught me some of lifespans greatest lessons. You can do anything, if you put your mind to it. This is an exciting and unbelievable transition. This is a biographical novel consisting of episodes and recollections from my life as I lived it with Mark Adams, bass player and songwriter from the Funk Band, Slave. This novel is based on a combination of personal experiences, specific people, places, and events. Mark Adams was a bass playing phenomenon that truly brought the Funk to the music of the70s and 80s. Mark was born in Dayton, Ohio, where he started playing music at a young age. He also composed and wrote a great amount of songs that were performed by the Funk Group, Slave. Such as Just a Touch of Love, Watching Ladies, Slide, and Baby wait for me, to name a few. His music is currently played today on radio stations around the world, and the United States. God truly blessed him with his talent. Mark was a legend in his own time, and a good hearted man. Soon after Mark moved in with me, he told me he now sees that the best things in life are free. Most people want material things like money, cars, jewelry, etc. But it is what a person is like on the inside that matters most. Other than his music that he shares with the world, he feels that his main purpose is to change his way of living and improve his life condition. I told him that he is in the right place, and you have my full support. I know that I am not an angel, and I am far from being perfect. We all have our good points along with the bad. We are all on the journey back to our true selves in perfection of spirit in our souls. We offer you our insight to show the way for you not to go, or to go. By knowing the expected consequences, make your choices in awareness, not in ignorance. Thus, we may shine a little light on your path to enjoyment and pleasure in peace and love.

Book excerpt: Isaiah 61:1: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound." My eyes racing over the words, my heart pounding harder, I'm still hitting the pipe. I can't wait to get done with this stuff. Today is January 10. I felt something unsettling that day. Guilt and shame are my constant companions. I want to stop, but I can't. I don't understand Lord. I really want to stop smoking. "You can't get out this way," Craig shouted at me, obvious disgust and frustration in his voice. "We'll go over the wall," I said, without turning around. Please Lord, don't let me smoke today.
