Book Synopsis The Prayers and Tears of Jacques Derrida by : John D. Caputo
Download or read book The Prayers and Tears of Jacques Derrida written by John D. Caputo and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 1997-09-22 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Prayer and Tears of Jacques Derrida takes its point of departure from Derrida's more recent, sometimes autobiographical writings and closely examines the religious motifs that have emerged in his later works. John D. Caputo's provocative interpretation of Derrida's thinking also makes an original contribution to the question of the relevance of deconstruction for religion. Caputo's Derrida is a man of faith who bridges Jewish and Christian traditions. The deep messianic, apocalyptic, and prophetic tones in Derrida's writings, Caputo argues, bespeak his broken covenant with Judaism. Through its startling exploration of Derrida's impossible religion, the book sheds light on the implications of deconstruction for an understanding of religion and faith today--from back cover.
Book Synopsis Of Prayers and Tears by : Saitya Brata Das
Download or read book Of Prayers and Tears written by Saitya Brata Das and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-10-13 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eschatology is generally understood to be the doctrine of last things, but understood rigorously eschatology actually speaks of the inauguration of a new, redeemed world to come and of the coming of God himself. To speak of eschatology in this way is to speak of the very possibility of the future in the radical sense, the future that is not a mere attenuated variation of presence. Eschatology speaks of a coming that comes only to pass away into a past; rather it speaks of the coming of the Holy itself, which is the very origin of time and is thus the event par excellence. This book attempts to make manifest the question that eschatology itself poses: that eschaton has something essential to do with the beginning. This work intervenes in contemporary debates on "postsecularism" and "the return to religion." By introducing the question of eschatology anew, this book reintroduces the problem of transcendence that effectively calls into question the logic of sovereign power and rethinks the place of ''religion'' as an affirmation of what lies beyond, which does not function as the legitimizing principle of sovereignty in today's world of mass consumption.

Download or read book Lament written by P. Douglas Small and published by . This book was released on 2019-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why isn't the church weeping? Lament is raw honest prayer. A century ago, perhaps as recently as fifty years ago, travail was as common in Pentecostal congregations as were corporate prayer sessions. There were times in which an entire congregation tarried before God in prayer and wept. In such a season, groaning in the Spirit still was a common practice. Lament is not reflected in our public nor private worship. When we do weep, it is rarely before God in prayer. Is the church no longer a place that admits those who weep and mourn? Isn't there a blessing for the mourner promised by Jesus, himself, a word for those who need comfort? Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4
