Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this penetrating book, renowned intuitive, speaker, and teacher Robert Ohotto guides us on an investigation of the Heroic Journey of the Soul. Exploring three modern-day manifestations of Fate, he shows how psychic energy from family patterns, cultural influences, generational legacy, and global evolution inform our self-concept every day, and how they often block our highest potential and "Fate" us to challenging circumstances and relationships. But, he reveals, these Fated encounters are actually the keys to our unlived life. Each chapter maps our psyche and unravels the mysterious connections of Fate, Free Will, and Destiny, transforming our Fate into Destiny and our limitations into gifts. Through this seminal work, based on years of experience, discover how we’ve made two fundamental agreements with the Universe as part of our Heroic Journey—one with Fate and the other with Destiny. As we learn to dance with these two forces, they become two voices challenging and beckoning us to discover our ultimate purpose—the primary task of the modern-day Hero and Heroine; and in the process, serve to unleash the power of our Soul in delivering grace to the world.

Twenty years later, Kirsten moves between the settlements of the altered world with a small troupe of actors and musicians. They call themselves The Traveling Symphony, and they have dedicated themselves to keeping the remnants of art and humanity alive. But when they arrive in St. Deborah by the Water, they encounter a violent prophet who will threaten the tiny band’s existence. And as the story takes off, moving back and forth in time, and vividly depicting life before and after the pandemic, the strange twist of fate that connects them all will be revealed. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fate is defined as "the power that is believed to control everything that happens and that cannot be stopped or changed." It is more of a preternatural force that dictates the tempo, speed, taste, and direction of lives under its influence thereby wielding total control over such fated lives. If a person is fated to do something or fated to live in a particular way or go in a certain direction, it means the person is "unable to escape a particular fate" since "it is certain to happen because everything (about the person) is controlled by fate." As a result, so many people are living at the mercy of the ever-controlling force of fate; with their lives and destinies completely under its dictates. They cringe and sometimes, crash because of the things that happen to them. They live in utter helplessness. Because of their helpless helplessness, fated lives are permanently controlled by the forces of fate. On account of this, such lives are prone to uncertainties, with no control over the events in their lives as well as their actions. It gets to a point that many of them give up and rescind to fate thereby living a manner of life that is completely outside of their decisions but under the dictates of some external forces. The controlling and domineering influence of fate in many lives has occasioned the helplessness and hopelessness they suffer in life. That state of helplessness is what accounts for the numerous frustrations, anxiety, depression, and the increasing suicide cases we see, hear, and read in the news, all over the world. The most disturbing aspect is that, even with the solution made available by God for them to be free from fate; many lives are still dominated by it. Now, I should like to ask about you. Is your life being run by the forces of fate? Are you under the control of fate in any way? Do you believe you can never take control of your life and destiny? Is your life fated to go contrary to what you desire for yourself and your family? Have you given up your desire to change some things you experience in your life? Have you given up because you believe you can never have a say in the direction and condition of your life? Whatever may be the case with you, I would like you to know that there's hope for you! If you desire to take full control of your life and destiny under the supervision of faith in God, then you're reading the best book at this time of your life. Ignorance is the difference maker between a fate-dominated life and a faith-controlled destiny. Knowledge of what to do is the jinx-breaker and the game-changer! Fate must have controlled all our lives before now. But God had sent us an escape and a redemption plan so that everyone who desires freedom can be free from the power of fate. I was a victim of fate until God delivered me through faith and I can assure you that you, too, can be free from fate and its influences. Thus, if you remain under the power of fate, you're doing so as a matter of choice. There's provision for your liberation. It only requires your cooperation. Faith is the antidote to fate. And mercy is the channel thereto. The practical-steps solution to the problems of fate is captured on the pages of this timely book. It presents to you a scriptural but practical solution to the menace of fate and its controlling power in the lives and destinies of people. It will inspire you to take the right actions that will help you walk out free from every form of fate-related activity and captivity that may be bothering your life. Overall, you will discover how to freely and easily migrate from the stranglehold of fate into the stronghold of faith. Enjoy a spiritually reformative reading experience.

Book excerpt: Rabbi Soloveitchik presents an extended theological meditation on the Holocaust and the rise of the State of Israel, a profound examination of the Jewish covenant of faith and the covenant of fate and destiny which links all Jews, religious, irreligious and non-religious. This covenant of faith manifests itself in shared circumstances, shared responsibility and shared activity. Fate and destiny likewise links all Jews, but while fate is thrust upon the Jews, destiny is freely chosen by the individual Jew and the Jewish people by adopting a Torah lifestyle and possesses both significance and purpose.

Book excerpt: Selected as one of World Literature Today's 75 Notable Translations of 2013 Spanning five turbulent decades in Iranian history, from before the 1979 revolution, through the Islamic Republic, and up to the present, The Book of Fate is a powerful story of friendship and passion, fear and hope. A teenager in pre-revolutionary Tehran, Massoumeh is an average girl, passionate about learning. On her way to school she meets a local man and falls in love, but when her family discovers his letters they accuse her of bringing them dishonour. She is badly beaten by her brother, and her parents hastily arrange for her to marry a man she’s never met. Facing a life without love, and the prospect of no education, Massoumeh is distraught, but a female neighbour urges her to comply: "We each have a destiny, and you can’t fight yours." The years that follow Massoumeh’s wedding prove transformative for Iran. Hamid, Massoumeh’s husband, is a political dissident and a threat to the Shah’s regime. When the secret service arrive to arrest him, it is the start of a terrifying period for Massoumeh. Her fate, so long dictated by family loyalty and tradition, is now tied to the changing fortunes of her country.

Book excerpt: Drawing on the experiences of his life, traditional wisdom stories, poetic and metaphoric language, etymology, and his personal brand of scholarship, Michael Meade leads us to an undeniable truth: that the only story we came here to live is our own. Often called "an instant classic," in this newly revised and expanded edition of Fate and Destiny, Meade has taken his original message of the uniqueness of each life to new levels of meaning and inspiration. By elaborating key themes and polishing the gems of wisdom, Meade gives us an even more powerful opportunity to change ourselves and the world. Meade shows how the limitations of family and fate form the inner threads from which our individual destiny must emerge. He explains how our wounds can become doorways to our deepest gifts and how our greatest obstacles are intended to lead us to a treasure divinely seeded within us before birth. Amidst the current turmoil of the world, Fate and Destiny speaks directly to young people seeking to find a genuine path in life and trying to awaken to the dream they carry inside. At the same time, stories of the elders help older people find new ways to value their lives and touch the threads of their own destiny. Fate and Destiny offers everyone penetrating insights for those caught in life's inevitable struggles and shows the wisdom of elders depends upon remembering the spirit of eternal youth. -- Provided by publisher.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why would countries without nuclear weapons even think about fighting nuclear-armed opponents? A simple answer is that no one believes nuclear weapons will be used. But that answer fails to consider why nonnuclear state leaders would believe that in the first place. In this superb unpacking of the dynamics of conflict under conditions of nuclear monopoly, Paul C. Avey argues that the costs and benefits of using nuclear weapons create openings that weak nonnuclear actors can exploit. Tempting Fate uses four case studies to show the key strategies available to nonnuclear states: Iraqi decision-making under Saddam Hussein in confrontations with the United States; Egyptian leaders' thinking about the Israeli nuclear arsenal during wars in 1969–70 and 1973; Chinese confrontations with the United States in 1950, 1954, and 1958; and a dispute that never escalated to war, the Soviet-United States tensions between 1946 and 1948 that culminated in the Berlin Blockade. Those strategies include limiting the scope of the conflict, holding chemical and biological weapons in reserve, seeking outside support, and leveraging international non-use norms. Counterintuitively, conventionally weak nonnuclear states are better positioned to pursue these strategies than strong ones, so that wars are unlikely when the nonnuclear state is powerful relative to its nuclear opponent. Avey demonstrates clearly that nuclear weapons cast a definite but limited shadow, and while the world continues to face various nuclear challenges, understanding conflict in nuclear monopoly will remain a pressing concern for analysts and policymakers.
