Book Synopsis Coastal Sedimentary Environments by : R.A. Jr. Davis
Download or read book Coastal Sedimentary Environments written by R.A. Jr. Davis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The zone where land and sea meet is composed of a variety of complex environments. The coastal areas of the world contain a large percentage of its population and are therefore of extreme economic importance. Industrial, residential, and recreational developments, as well as large urban complexes, occupy much of the coastal margin of most highly developed countries. Undoubtedly future expansion in many undeveloped maritime countries will also be concentrated on coastal areas. Accompanying our occupation of coasts in this age of technology is a dependence on coastal environments for transportation, food, water, defense, and recreation. In order to utilize the coastal zone to its capacity, and yet not plunder its resources, we must have extensive knowledge of the complex environments contained along the coasts. The many environments within the coastal zone include bays, estuaries, deltas, marshes, dunes, and beaches. A tremendously broad range of conditions is represented by these environments. Salinity may range from essentially fresh water in estuaries, such as along the east coast of the United States, to extreme hypersaline lagoons, such as Laguna Madre in Texas. Coastal environments may be in excess of a hundred meters deep (fjords) or may extend several meters above sea level in the form of dunes. Some coastal environments are well protected and are not subjected to high physical energy except for occasional storms, whereas beaches and tidal inlets are continuously modified by waves and currents.
Book Synopsis Holocene Marine Sedimentation in the North Sea Basin by : S. D. Nio
Download or read book Holocene Marine Sedimentation in the North Sea Basin written by S. D. Nio and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-04-08 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A special publication of the International Association of Sedimentologists This comprehensive scientific book of more than 500 pages features chapters by various authors. Holocene Marine Sedimentation in the North Sea Basin address topics that include: ripple, megaripple and sandwave bedforms in South Wales; shoreline development in St Andrews Bay, Scotland; and the origin of ridges off the Zeeland coast. Highlighted research includes: measurements of suspended sediment concentrations made at stations on a sandy intertidal zone in South Wales, as well as another study of two cores from the southern side of the Norwegian Channel concerning geotechnical properties, texture, sedimentary structures and mineralogical composition.

Book Synopsis Tidal Sedimentation of the Sunderban's Thakuran Basin by : Gautam Kumar Das
Download or read book Tidal Sedimentation of the Sunderban's Thakuran Basin written by Gautam Kumar Das and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-11 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers an overview of research on sediment textures, sedimentary structures, sediment composition and bioturbation structures including other aspects of tidal sedimentation. The analytical results for the tidal river sedimentation and essential aspects of relevant field studies along the entire stretch of the Thakuran River are being presented in this book. Filled with interesting results obtained from minutely observations, this book brings together outstanding facts of the tidal river sedimentation and can be considered as a pioneer work on the dynamic estuarine environment of the Sunderbans River. Anyone in academia or NGOs interested in this river basin will find interesting information in this book that will enrich their knowledge on the sedimentation patterns of tidal river systems.

Book Synopsis Tidalites by : Clark Raymond Alexander
Download or read book Tidalites written by Clark Raymond Alexander and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tidal processes are important agents of sediment transport and deposition in most marine coastal zones. Development of better tools for recongizing tidal deposits has revealed that such dposits are much more common and extensive than previously thought. This volume presents ideas on tidal sedimentation, including work concerning the tidal flats of the Wadden Sea, the area where modern-day studies of tidal sedimentation began, the origin, interpretation, and uses of tidal rhythmites, and the sequence- stratigraphic context of tidal sediments.
