Book Synopsis Progress in Molecular and Subcellular Biology by : Philippe Jeanteur
Download or read book Progress in Molecular and Subcellular Biology written by Philippe Jeanteur and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biological functions are almost exclusively attributed to macromolecules, i.e. nucleic acids, proteins and polysaccharides. To gain their complete functional activities these biomolecules have to associate with the nuclear matrix, the cytoskeleton and the cell/plasma membranes. It is the aim of this series to discuss actual aspects in the field of structure-associated genetic and epigenetic functional processes. This series of survey reviews fills the gap in structure-associated information flow, and is a vital reference work for scientists in molecular and cell biology.

Book Synopsis Footrot and Foot Abscess of Ruminants by : J. R. Egerton
Download or read book Footrot and Foot Abscess of Ruminants written by J. R. Egerton and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1989-08-31 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last two decades substantial advances have been made in research on footrot and foot abscess. The results of this research are presented in this volume. Footrot and foot abscess differ from most other communicable diseases in that they are mixed bacterial infections, which are regarded as the most economically important contagious disease of sheep in Australia today. This book is aimed at practicing veterinarians, government animal health officers and research scientists who are interested in diagnosis, treatment and prevention of economically important bacterial diseases of the ruminant hoof. It covers the microbiology of two major pathogens, Bacteroides nodosus and Fusobacterium necrophorum, and the pathology, immunology and epidemiology of footrot and foot abscess. It contains up-to-date information on various strategies currently used to control these diseases in sheep in Australia and New Zealand. Of special interest to clinicians will be sections on diagnosis which are comprehensively illustrated with pictures of various clinical entities together with differential diagnosis of other infections that localize in the digits. Developments in immunological control recently advanced by exciting opportunities to produce defined vaccines by recombinant DNA technology are also reviewed. Consideration is given to the application of biotechnology to rapid and accurate diagnosis. Sections on diagnosis are illustrated with pictures of various clinical entities together with differential diagnosis of other infections that localize in the digits. Reports achievements of great practical value Covers microbiology, pathology, immunology and epidemiology of each condition
Book Synopsis Sequence Analysis in Molecular Biology by : Gunnar Von Heijne
Download or read book Sequence Analysis in Molecular Biology written by Gunnar Von Heijne and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sequence Analysis in Molecular Biology: Treasure Trove or Trivial Pursuit presents the methods for sequence analysis of DNA and proteins. This book contains eight chapters that consider the sequence analysis either directly on a microcomputer or using one of the main sequence/programs data banks. This book starts with a description of the main nucleic acid and protein sequence data banks, followed by a short section on the ""housekeeping aids"" that the computer can provide during a sequencing project. Chapters 4 and 5 deal with nucleic acid and protein sequence analysis. Chapter 6 treats algorithms for homology searching and sequence alignments. Chapter 7 presents some selected examples of how computer modeling can help decide whether an observed sequence pattern is significant or not, and how computer simulation is sometimes used to get a feeling for the behavior of intrinsically complex sequence-dependent processes. Chapter 8 contains some comments on the role of theoretical sequence analysis in molecular biology. This book is directed toward molecular biologists.
Book Synopsis Structural RNA, Synthetic, and Unannotated Sequences by : Edwin J. Atencio
Download or read book Structural RNA, Synthetic, and Unannotated Sequences written by Edwin J. Atencio and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 603 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nucleotide Sequences 1986/1987, Volume VII: Structural RNA, Synthetic, and Unannotated Sequences presents data that reflect the information found in GenBank Release 44.0 of August 1986. This book provides information pertinent to the unique international collaboration between two leading nucleotide sequence data libraries, one based in Europe and one in the United States. Organized into three sections, this volume begins with an overview of the sequences, some basic identifying information, and some of the biological annotations. This text then discusses the EMBL Nucleotide Sequence Data Library, an international center of fundamental research with its main focus in the fields of cell biology, molecular structures, instrumentation, and differentiation. This book discusses as well the GenBank database established in 1982 by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) of the U.S National Institutes of Health (NIH). This book is a valuable resource for molecular biologists and other investigators collecting the large number of reported DNA and RNA sequences and making them available in computer-readable form.

Download or read book Photosynthesis written by M. D. Hatch and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Biochemistry of Plants: A Comprehensive Treatise, Volume 10: Photosynthesis provides information pertinent to the biochemistry of photosynthesis. This book discusses the advances in the field of photosynthesis and emphasizes that not only certain synthetic bacteria and microalgae but also other aquatic phototrophs possess mechanisms for concentrating CO2 or bicarbonate in their cells. Organized into six chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the ways of minimizing the wasteful oxygenase reaction catalyzed by the enzyme. This text then examines the molecular basis underlying the structure of the chloroplast thylakoid membrane and its biogenesis during the maturation of the chloroplast. Other chapters consider the dynamics of the thylakoid membrane, including the role of protein phosphorylation and the lateral distribution of electrical charge and protein components. This book discusses as well the molecular processes governing the development of the organelle. This book is a valuable resource for plant biochemists, neurobiochemists, molecular biologists, senior graduate students, and research workers.
Book Synopsis The Paramyxoviruses by : David W. Kingsbury
Download or read book The Paramyxoviruses written by David W. Kingsbury and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What justifies the size of this compendium of reviews on the paramyxoviruses? As intracellular parasites that reproduce with almost complete indifference to nuclear activities, paramyxoviruses have not been providing insights about genes that regulate cellular activities and development, topics that account for much of the excitement in modem biology. For contributions of virus research to those topics, we must look to the retroviruses, which have the propensity to steal developmentally important genes and subvert them to malignant pur poses, and to the nuclear DNA viruses, whose gene expression depends heavily upon cellular transcription machinery, making them exceptionally useful tools for identifying and characterizing components of that machinery. From this perspective, it may appear that purely lytic viruses like the paramyxoviruses are sitting on the sidelines of contemporary biology. But there is plenty of action on the sidelines. Paramyxoviruses remain unconquered, devastating agents of disease. Human deaths attributable to paramyxoviruses worldwide, especially in children, are numbered in the mil lions annually. There are many pathogenic paramyxoviruses and too few effec tive vaccines, and those vaccines (against measles and mumps) are affordable only by relatively affluent nations. Moreover, the paramyxoviruses are intrin sically interesting organisms, presenting the challenge of understanding the self-replication of RNA and many other challenges peculiar to the structures and functions of their proteins, not only as individual entities, but also as they act in concert during virus reproduction and interact with vital functions of the cells they infect and often (but not always) destroy.
