Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this publication is to give an account of recent advances and new perspectives in the study of nuclei far from stability both from the experimental and the theoretical points of view. Experimental studies of exotic nuclei are currently being performed in several laboratories and new facilities with high-intensity beams are either just completed, or approved and under construction or in their planning stages. Three models are extensively discussed: the shell model, the interacting boson model and the cluster model. In recent years, considerable advance has been made in ab initio theories of nuclei, especially of light nuclei.

Book Synopsis Nuclear Structure by : Giovanni Bonsignori
Download or read book Nuclear Structure written by Giovanni Bonsignori and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Conference OC Bologna 2000: Structure of the Nucleus at the Dawn of the CenturyOCO was devoted to a discipline which has seen a strong revival of research activities in the last decade. New experimental results and theoretical developments in nuclear physics will certainly make important contributions to our knowledge and understanding of Nature's fundamental building blocks. The interest aroused by the Conference among the scientific community was clearly reflected in the large number of participants. These represented the most important nuclear physics laboratories in the world. The Conference covered five major topics of modern nuclear physics: nuclear structure, nucleusOConucleus collisions, hadron dynamics, nuclear astrophysics, and transdisciplinary and peaceful applications of nuclear science. It reviewed recent progress in the field and provided a forum for the discussion of current and future research projects. Contents: Structure of Nuclei Far from the Valley of Beta-Stability; Nuclear Structure; Physics of High Spin States; Symmetries in Nuclear Structure; Collective Excitations; Nuclear Structure at Finite Temperature. Readership: Nuclear physicists."

This book was released on 2001-08-30 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear structure physics is undergoing a major revival, full of activities and excitement. On the experimental side, this is being made possible by advances in detector technology and accelerator capabilities that give access to data and nuclei (especially exotic nuclei far from stability) never before accessible. On the theoretical side, new concepts, ideas and computational techniques are advancing our understanding of effective interactions, nucleonic correlations, and symmetries of structure. This volume covers a broad range of topics on nuclear structure, including collective excitations, proton-neutron excitation modes, phase transitions, signatures of structure, isospin, structure at both high and low angular momenta, recent developments in nuclear theory, the vast new realm of exotic nuclei far from the valley of stability, and the latest technological advances of detectors and facilities which will lead this branch of physics into the future.
Book Synopsis Nuclear Physics by : National Research Council
Download or read book Nuclear Physics written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1999-03-31 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dramatic progress has been made in all branches of physics since the National Research Council's 1986 decadal survey of the field. The Physics in a New Era series explores these advances and looks ahead to future goals. The series includes assessments of the major subfields and reports on several smaller subfields, and preparation has begun on an overview volume on the unity of physics, its relationships to other fields, and its contributions to national needs. Nuclear Physics is the latest volume of the series. The book describes current activity in understanding nuclear structure and symmetries, the behavior of matter at extreme densities, the role of nuclear physics in astrophysics and cosmology, and the instrumentation and facilities used by the field. It makes recommendations on the resources needed for experimental and theoretical advances in the coming decade.

Book Synopsis Nuclear Structure of the Zirconium Region by : Jürgen Eberth
Download or read book Nuclear Structure of the Zirconium Region written by Jürgen Eberth and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results important for the general understanding of nuclear structure have emerged from the study of the nuclei in the mass region around the neutron-deficient and neutron-rich Zirconium isotopes. This research report gives the proceedings of a workshop which brought together about 70 experts in the area. Review papers deal with the theoretical interpretation of the unusual properties of these medium-mass nuclei, using the mean field approach, a microscopic description, the interacting boson model and particle rotor calculations. Papers also discuss experimental procedures for studying nuclei far from stability and the possibility of complete spectroscopy. The reviews are supplemented by short contributions presenting very new results. Phenomena discussed include the interplay between subshell effects and the strong proton-neutron interaction in determining nuclear shape, the coexistence of different nuclear shape and the occurrence of fast beta decay.
