Book Synopsis The Politics of Peace by : Te-Li Lau
Download or read book The Politics of Peace written by Te-Li Lau and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2009-12-07 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although scholarship has noted the thematic importance of peace in Ephesians, few have examined its political character in a sustained manner throughout the entire letter. This book addresses this lacuna, comparing Ephesians with Colossians, Greek political texts, Dio Chrysostom’s Orations, and the Confucian Four Books in order to ascertain the rhetorical and political nature of its topos of peace. Through comparison with analogous documents both within and without its cultural milieu, this study shows that Ephesians can be read as a politico-religious letter “concerning peace” within the church. Its vision of peace contains common political elements (such as moral education, household management, communal stability, a universal humanity, and war) that are subsumed under the controlling rubric of the unity and cosmic summing up of all things in Christ.

Book Synopsis The Mystery of God by : C. C. Rowland
Download or read book The Mystery of God written by C. C. Rowland and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2009 with total page 717 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together the perspectives of apocalypticism and early Jewish mysticism to illuminate aspects of New Testament theology. The first part begins with a consideration of the mystical character of apocalypticism and then uses the Book of Revelation and the development of views about the heavenly mediator figure of Enoch to explore the importance of apocalypticism in the Gospels and Acts, the Pauline Letters and finally the key theological themes in the later books of the New Testament. The second and third parts explore the character of early Jewish mysticism by taking important themes in the early Jewish mystical texts such as the Temple and the Divine Body to demonstrate the relevance of this material to New Testament interpretation.
Book Synopsis Salvation in the New Testament by : Jan G. van der Watt
Download or read book Salvation in the New Testament written by Jan G. van der Watt and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2005-11-01 with total page 543 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Salvation in the New Testament offers an analysis of the soteriological perspectives and language of the different books of the New Testament. Special attention is given to the imagery used in expressing soteriological ideas. Salvation deals with becoming part of the people of God. In Salvation in the New Testament special attention is given to the nature and power of the salvific language used in the New Testament to express the dynamics of salvation. Individual articles on the different books of the New Testament highlight the diverse perspectives offered in these documents. The emphasis especially falls on the different images and metaphors which were used to express the event and moment of salvation, rather than on the results (ethics or behaviour) of salvation. An overview of the different perspectives on soteriology in the New Testament offers the opportunity to compare similarities and differences in concepts and expressions. It also illustrates the dynamic interaction between historical situations and salvific language and expression.

This ancient manuscript dates back to the 4th century and includes large portions of the Old Testament in Greek and the entire Greek New Testament text. Due to ist age, this ancient Greek New Testament text is one of the oldest and therefore also most authentic Greek New Testament manuscripts available but rarely available in printed form to a public audience today. This edition presents the entire accented Greek text of the New Testament transcribed from the original manuscript in uncial Greek letters and an exhaustive word concordance of the entire text body (corpus) for ease of reference.

Book Synopsis Paul's Letter Collection by : David Trobisch
Download or read book Paul's Letter Collection written by David Trobisch and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this fascinating book David Trobisch looks at the Pauline letters of the New Testament by examining the oldest manuscripts of the letters of Paul. Then he describes characteristic features of the Pauline letters and interprets them in the light of documented editorial practices by comparing them to other published letter collections of the time (Cicero, Plinius etc). He comes to the conclusion that the New Testament collection of Pauline letters is best understood if one assumes that the Apostle Paul himself prepared some of them for publication (Romans, I & II Corinthians and Galatians). It is written in accessible language for anyone interested in New Testament scholarship. With footnotes, tables, and illustrations.
