Book excerpt: Le travail présenté s’inscrit dans le cadre de recherches initiées par la Fédération Nationale des Travaux Publics afin de disposer de méthodologies pour qualifier un béton du point de vue de sa durabilité. La mise en œuvre des nouvelles normes (EN 206-1) relatives à la production de bétons en centrale et sur chantier ouvre la porte d’une spécification des performances à atteindre par un béton donné au lieu d’imposer comme auparavant, selon les conditions d’usage, la composition du matériau mis en œuvre. Il est alors nécessaire de développer des procédures permettant de caractériser les performances d’un béton autrement que par l’analyse de sa composition. Il s’agit essentiellement, à partir d’un mécanisme de vieillissement donné du matériau, de déterminer les propriétés physico-chimiques mises en jeu, d’établir un lien entre celles-ci et la composition du béton et enfin de définir des essais (souvent accélérés) permettant de caractériser le matériau. Les méthodologies, fondées sur le concept de performance équivalente, consistent à montrer qu’un béton se comporte au moins aussi bien qu’un béton de référence, pour chacune des actions environnementales envisagées par la norme : carbonatation, pénétration des chlorures, gel/dégel, lixiviation, attaques sulfatiques externes. Une approche performantielle existe déjà pour le gel/dégel. Les études menées ont permis de mettre en évidence des modes opératoires d’essais représentatifs et des indicateurs associés suffisamment sensibles pour qualifier des bétons exposés à la carbonatation, à la pénétration des chlorures et à la lixiviation. Grâce à plusieurs dispositifs expérimentaux d’essais de vieillissement et à l’utilisation d’un modèle numérique, l’étude sur les attaques sulfatiques externes a permis de comprendre les principaux aspects du mécanisme de dégradation par les sulfates et de proposer des solutions pour l’adaptation des compositions de béton destinés à ces environnements. Les méthodologies proposées visent ainsi à passer d’une obligation de moyens à une obligation de résultats, autrement dit de laisser un degré de liberté supplémentaire dans la conception, pour le même objectif de durabilité et une meilleure maîtrise de la durabilité potentielle du matériau.

Book excerpt: La corrosion de l'acier par carbonatation du béton est un phénomène de dégradation majeur des structures en béton armé, qui débute par la dépassivation de l'acier due à l'abaissement du pH de la solution interstitielle. Un modèle est été développé pour estimer la profondeur de carbonatation du béton. Le modèle proposé est un approfondissement de modélisations antérieures, notamment afin de prendre en considération dans les simulations l'effet de la température, tant par l’équation de transfert que par des termes de thermo-activation venant modifier les grandeurs de diffusion de dioxyde de carbone et des ions calcium en phase liquide, la solubilité des hydrates, la viscosité de l’eau, ainsi que l’isotherme hydrique. L’objectif étant d’inscrire la modélisation dans un cadre probabiliste, et donc coûteux en terme de calculs, il a fallu réduire la dimension stochastique du problème. Une méthodologie de choix des paramètres intervenant dans le modèle, basée sur une étude de sensibilité, a été proposée. Un modèle de substitution a été construit, à partir du modèle initial, pour déterminer les grandeurs intervenant dans les expressions des états-limites de dépassivation et d’initiation de la corrosion, s’appuyant sur des développements en chaos polynomiaux.Avec une définition de la probabilité d’amorçage de la corrosion et des modèles de substitution pour la profondeur carbonatée et pour l’amplitude de la variation annuelle du taux de saturation au voisinage des armatures, l’analyse fiabiliste proprement dite a été menée, notamment par rapport à l’incidence des conditions climatiques sur la fiabilité des ouvrages en béton vis-à-vis de la durabilité.

Ainsi, l'approche performancielle de la durabilité du béton a été proposée.Le principe est de permettre la fabrication d'un béton avec une formule différente de celle de la norme tout en montrant qu'elle est aussi performante que celle de la norme. Cette démonstration de performance passe par l'utilisation des indicateurs de durabilité et des essais performanciels. Les résultats des essais réalisés sur la nouvelle formulation de béton pourront montrer si sa performance est égale ou supérieure à celle de la norme. Le problème se pose sur le nombre d'essais à réaliser afin de garantir la performance du béton. Dans cette thèse, une méthode générique de qualification de la Durabilité/Fiabilité du béton avec un plan d'essais optimisé est proposée pour différents types d'environnement. Cette méthode permet d'estimer la Durabilité/Fiabilité du béton dans son environnement avec une garantie donnée et une statistique des essais à réaliser. Le processus de Wiener est utilisé afin de modéliser les processus de dégradation dans le béton. Une application de la méthode est réalisée pour le cas d'un béton soumis à la carbonatation.
