The indispensable recipes and streamlined cooking techniques in Where Cooking Begins are an open invitation to dive into Carla Lalli Music’s laid-back cooking style. The food editor at large at Bon Appétit, her intuitive recipes are inspired by the meals she makes at home for her family and friends and the joy she takes in feeding them. The no-fail techniques, textured recipes, and strategies in Where Cooking Begins will make you a great cook. And even though she refused his advances before the irreparable was committed, she is dismayed when photos of their lewd dancing do the rounds on social media... and her school. To avoid getting a bad reputation, she asks Jay to pretend to be her boyfriend until the end of the school year. Recently divorced, Merilee Talbot Dunlap moves with her two children to the Atlanta suburb of Sweet Apple, Georgia. It’s not her first time starting over, but her efforts at a new beginning aren’t helped by an anonymous local blog that dishes about the scandalous events that caused her marriage to fail. Merilee finds some measure of peace in the cottage she is renting from town matriarch Sugar Prescott. Though stubborn and irascible, Sugar sees something of herself in Merilee—something that allows her to open up about her own colorful past. Sugar’s stories give Merilee a different perspective on the town and its wealthy school moms in their tennis whites and shiny SUVs, and even on her new friendship with Heather Blackford. Merilee is charmed by the glamorous young mother’s seemingly perfect life and finds herself drawn into Heather's world. In a town like Sweet Apple, where sins and secrets are as likely to be found behind the walls of gated mansions as in the dark woods surrounding Merilee’s house, appearance is everything. But just how dangerous that deception can be will shock all three women....

She knows there must be something better; that life she lived couldn't have been genuine love. Fear of her past has made receiving anything real seem impossible. The continuous picking at the wounds from her past keeps them open and susceptible to infecting her, which is just what Keith, her ex-husband, wants. He will do whatever it takes to keep her down, crush her spirit, and keep her where he can manipulate her. The only important thing in her life are her children, but believing she's not worth anything better has kept her from leaving the pain and suffering behind. She struggles to believe if real love exists. When she meets Jason, feelings that she has never felt before expose themselves. Letting him get close to her, she realizes how beautiful her life could be once the healing is complete. Can she trust him, or is he just like the others, using her as a tool? She has never fully trusted anyone. If she continues living in the direction she's going, chances are her kids will get sucked into a life she swore they would never have to experience. She has to let go of what she knows and start trusting people. But to have never trusted before makes it complicated. But he seems different. He lights a spark in her she never knew was there. Can she be sure of the process before her, or should she stay in what she knows is real? Pain.

Book excerpt: Agent Jim Huggins is embroiled in the largest case of his career. He was recruited shortly after graduating from Illinois. After a short stint with the Bureau the government set up a new agency that would concentrate on International Intelligence. Since he had a passion for intelligence he was offered a job within the new agency. He was assigned to the midwest office based in Chicago. What follows is an excerpt from the story. The school bus stopped at the corner, the tall long haired blonde girl with designer cut jeans got on board and waved at the other students on the bus and said hello to the driver. Today I noticed it was not the same driver that drove the bus for the past three weeks. It was a young woman that appeared to be in her middle thirties with dark brown hair cropped short in a bob, she was not wearing a wedding band but she had a Bluetooth or something stuck in her left ear so she could communicate with whoever she was talking to. She acknowledged the blonde girl, looked at her student ID and checked her log sheet to make sure she was supposed to be on this bus. Then the bus proceeded down the street until it got to the next corner where it stopped to pick up other students. As for me I could continue my surveillance. The blonde girl named Elisia is the daughter of the man I am following. He is believed to be a spy from an eastern European country that was once part of the Soviet Union. Since the breakup of the Soviet Union most of the satellite countries have their own networks. Why he is under surveillance is not my concern, my boss Rodger Allen McCray Field Supervisor Chicago office of international intelligence (I.I.A.) issued the order. Keep an eye on Karl Buranski record his every move and keep an eye on his family to see who they are in contact with. To create such a settlement however, they would need more slaves than the ones they currently possessed, and that's when they did something they shouldn't have done. They went to the Blue Fin dimension, attacked Freddie's village, and captured at least half of the blue fins on the island. When the blue fins make a desperate call to Freddie to ask for help from their human friends, Derek must come up with a rescue plan that's larger and far more involved than the one they'd used when they rescued Jarrod's family. They're also going to need some help if they're going to have any hope at all of pulling it off. To that end, several of their parents are recruited to help, along with Jeremy and the gang, and the rest of the blue fins from the island who are brought to the human dimension, not only for their own protection, but also so they can be trained for their role in the mission. Time is of the essence, but developments in the Faranox dimension threaten to throw a monkey wrench into their plans. Fortunately, with the help of the backers and their mysterious rep, they may just be able to pull it off. Also, when the backers suddenly start feeling even more generous, the rep tells Patricia that they'll be tearing down their current home, and replacing it with a new home that will better serve their needs. What they received when all was said and done however, went far beyond any of their wildest dreams. Revenge continues the Unseen Things saga with new team members, new revelations, and a visit from someone who's about to become an even more important part of their lives than they already were.
