La question se complique d'autant plus que certaines familles transposent parfois sur leurs animaux les codes religieux applicables à l'être humain, conséquence de l'anthropomorphisation croissante de nos rapports à l'animal. Il est nécessaire, afin de comprendre les multitudes d'interprétations religieuses pouvant se manifester lors de la fin de vie de l'animal familier, de connaître les grandes lignes des dogmes religieux au sujet de l'humain, de l'animal mais aussi de la mort et du devenir du corps. Il est tout aussi indispensable de comprendre comment ont évolué nos rapports aux animaux au cours de l'Histoire et de réussir à mettre en perspective et à croiser ces différentes informations. La présente thèse se propose donc de mener cette étude interdisciplinaire centrée sur les religions monothéistes.

Bestiaire de l’Égypte gréco-romaine, Céline Boutantin propose une nouvelle approche des figurines en terre cuite produites en Égypte à l’époque gréco-romaine. Une étude prenant en compte les contextes archéologiques permet de dresser un bilan des ateliers de production et de montrer, dans certains cas, une adaptation de la production à des cultes locaux.
