Book Synopsis Nonlinear Space Charge Wave Theory of the Hydrodynamic Disc-electron Beam by : Sven Olving

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report deals with a simple, idealized, radially finite electron beam model which to our knowledge has not been treated in the literature before. The beam is assumed to be composed of infinitesimal discs whose charge to mass ratio equals that of the electron. The diameter of the plane, rigid discs equals that of the real confined beam. The propagation of high frequency disturbances (generated in an ideal, gridded velocity modulation gap) along the disc-electron beam is studied analytically. It is shown that the disturbances, i.e. space charge waves, in the disc-electron beam are practically equivalent to those in the corresponding real confined beam. However, the theory for the new model is comparatively simple which is the motivation for its use. The report contains a fourth order nonlinear analysis of the space charge waves on a disc-electron beam propagating in a conducting tunnel. (Author).

Download or read book Measurements on Nonlinear Space Charge Waves written by Thaiyar M. Srinivasan and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of measurements on the nonlinear ac currents in a velocity modulated confined electron beam are reported. The test vehicle is a two cavity klystron type device with an axially movable demodulator. The ac beam currents at the fundamental and at the two lowest harmonic frequencies have been measured as functions of the distance along the beam for various modulation levels and dc beam currents. The main purpose of the work is to provide experimental data in the transition range between linear space charge wave type and ballistic type behaviour of the ac beam current. The experiments are in good agreement with the nonlinear space charge wave theory. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fundamental differential equation describing the polarization of an electron in an infinitely wide electron beam is derived. The modified fundamental differential equation is formulated into a fourth-degree non-linear partial differential equation. Terms involving the polarization raised to powers higher than the third are neglected and the remaining third-degree equation is separated into 3 linear differential equations by successive approximations. The solution to the differential equation for the first-degree polarization is substituted into the equation for the second-degree polarization to yield the driving terms of that equation. The second-degree polarization is composed of dc and first-harmonic frequency terms. The procedure is repeated and the fundamental-frequency terms of the third-degree polarization are computed. The component of the third-degree fundamental-frequency polarization in quadrature with the first-degree polarization describes the nonlinear phase shift behavior of the electron beam. (Author).

Book excerpt: This report considers the small-perturbed electron motions in an accelerated (space charge limited) cylindrical parallel flow electron beam to establish whether noise fluctuations will grow or decay as a function of distance and magnetic field. Approximate solutions of the resulting second order differential equations are presented in the form of both first order WKB solutions and asymptotic series, the WKB form having the advantage of being a fairly good normal mode representation. Solutions show magnitude of perturbed radial electron displacement will increase indefinitely for no magnetic field and will reach an asymptotic value at a certain distance from the cathode, with magnetic field, the stronger of the field, the shorter this distance. The transverse and quasi-static electric fields decay in both cases. (Author).

Download or read book Intense Electron and Ion Beams written by Sergey Ivanovich Molokovsky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-11-28 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intense Ion and Electron Beams treats intense charged-particle beams used in vacuum tubes, particle beam technology and experimental installations such as free electron lasers and accelerators. It addresses, among other things, the physics and basic theory of intense charged-particle beams; computation and design of charged-particle guns and focusing systems; multiple-beam charged-particle systems; and experimental methods for investigating intense particle beams. The coverage is carefully balanced between the physics of intense charged-particle beams and the design of optical systems for their formation and focusing. It can be recommended to all scientists studying or applying vacuum electronics and charged-particle beam technology, including students, engineers, and researchers.
Book Synopsis Space Charge Dominated Beam Physics for Heavy Ion Fusion by : Yuri K. Batygin
Download or read book Space Charge Dominated Beam Physics for Heavy Ion Fusion written by Yuri K. Batygin and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 1999 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fusion is a combining of atoms to form other atoms, which occurs when their nuclei get close enough to each other. The energy that powers the sun actually comes from nuclear fusion. The realization of fusion in laboratory conditions requires 1000 trillion watts of a charged particle beam over a period of approx. 10 billionth of a second (10 nanoseconds) to ignite a target of thermonuclear fuel. Due to natural repulsion of particles via Coulomb forces, beam space charge effects remain the key problem for designers of high intensity accelerators for heavy ion fusion. The subject of the RIKEN Symposium was to review the present understanding of space charge phenomena and to discuss possible solutions for unresolved problems.
