Download or read book Large Deformation Finite Element Analysis of Shells written by Fathelrahman Mohamed Adam and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis of shells structure represents one of the most challenging fields in many applications. This work presents the linear and nonlinear analysis of thin shell structures based on finite element eight nodes degenerated shell element which have five degrees of freedom per each node. A geometric nonlinear formulation based on the total Lagrangian formulation and using both geometric strains (Engineering Strains) and Green's strains was adopted in this work and the formulations were implemented into a nonlinear finite element program NONLAS. The solution of nonlinear equations is obtained by combining a step-by-step incremental/iterative procedure and the Modified Newton-Raphson method. The capability of the formulation is demonstrated by numerical examples and the results are compared with available solutions.

Book excerpt: Presenting recent principles of thin plate and shell theories, this book emphasizes novel analytical and numerical methods for solving linear and nonlinear plate and shell dilemmas, new theories for the design and analysis of thin plate-shell structures, and real-world numerical solutions, mechanics, and plate and shell models for engineering applications. It includes computer processes for finite difference, finite element, boundary element, and boundary collocation methods as well as other variational and numerical methods. It also contains end-of-chapter examples and problem/solution sets, a catalog of solutions for cylindrical and spherical shells, and tables of the most commonly used plates and shells.

Book Synopsis The Finite Element Analysis of Shells - Fundamentals by : Dominique Chapelle
Download or read book The Finite Element Analysis of Shells - Fundamentals written by Dominique Chapelle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shell structures are found abundantly in engineering designs and are routinely analyzed with finite element methods. The objective of this book is to present, in a unified manner, modern finite element procedures for general shell analysis. The first chapters introduce the basic concepts for the analysis of shells, explain the mathematical preliminaries, and discuss the mathematical models of plates and shells including their asymptotic properties. The following chapters deal with finite element discretization methods for plates and shells. At the end of the book, applications of these methods in modern engineering practice are described and an overview of nonlinear shell analysis is given.
