Book Synopsis Non-Linear Bending and Buckling of Circular Plates (Classic Reprint) by : Herbert B. Keller

This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Non-Linear Bending and Buckling of Circular Plates In this paper we consider a thin circular elastic plate of thickness t and radius R subjected either to a uniform lateral pressure, p, or to a uniform edge thrust, f. The first loading situation is referred to as a bending problem and the second as a buckling problem. In both cases only rotationally symmetric deformations will be considered so that all deflections and stresses are functions of a single radial coordinate, r. It is well known that the classical linear theory of plates yields solutions of these problems which are valid only for a limited range of low loads. For larger values of p and f it is necessary to apply non-linear plate theories which allow for finite deflections and account for the interaction of membrane and bending stresses. Thus we employ the von Karman equations [1] which are based on a non-linear theory of elasticity with infinitesimal strains and are valid for flat plates undergoing small but finite displacements. For rotationally symmetric deformations of circular plates these equations reduce to two coupled second order non - linear ordinary differential equations. This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Buckling of a Thick Circular Plate Using a Non-Linear Theory The Object of this paper is to study the stability of equilibrium of an isotropic circular cylinder when compressed along its curved lateral surface. The compression on the curved part Of the boundary is assumed to be such that the generators of the cylinder remain Vertical straight lines, but so that no shear stress is developed: it is as though the cylinder were compressed by shrinking a very stiff greased ring down on it. The plane faces are assumed to be free of stress. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Synopsis Nonlinear Large-deflection Boundary-value Problems of Rectangular Plates by : Chi-Teh Wang
Download or read book Nonlinear Large-deflection Boundary-value Problems of Rectangular Plates written by Chi-Teh Wang and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relaxation and successive approximation methods are used to solve Von Karman's equations as applied to initially flat, rectangular plates with large deflections under either normal pressure or combined normal pressure and side thrust, and several specific cases are analyzed. The general method developed may be applied to bending and combined bending and buckling problems with practically any boundary conditions to any required degree of accuracy or applied to solve the membrane theory of the plate which applies when the deflection is very large in comparison with the thickness of the plate.
Book Synopsis Buckling and Postbuckling of Beams, Plates, and Shells by : M. Reza Eslami
Download or read book Buckling and Postbuckling of Beams, Plates, and Shells written by M. Reza Eslami and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-03 with total page 603 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains eight chapters treating the stability of all major areas of the flexural theory. It covers the stability of structures under mechanical and thermal loads and all areas of structural, loading and material types. The structural element may be assumed to be made of a homogeneous/isotropic material, or of a functionally graded material. Structures may experience the bifurcation phenomenon, or they may follow the postbuckling path. This volume explains all these aspects in detail. The book is self-contained and the necessary mathematical concepts and numerical methods are presented in such a way that the reader may easily follow the topics based on these basic tools. It is intended for people working or interested in areas of structural stability under mechanical and/or thermal loads. Some basic knowledge in classical mechanics and theory of elasticity is required.
