Book Synopsis Order and Chaos in Dynamical Astronomy by : George Contopoulos
Download or read book Order and Chaos in Dynamical Astronomy written by George Contopoulos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is one of the first to provide a general overview of order and chaos in dynamical astronomy. The progress of the theory of chaos has a profound impact on galactic dynamics. It has even invaded celestial mechanics, since chaos was found in the solar system which in the past was considered as a prototype of order. The book provides a unifying approach to these topics from an author who has spent more than 50 years of research in the field. The first part treats order and chaos in general. The other two parts deal with order and chaos in galaxies and with other applications in dynamical astronomy, ranging from celestial mechanics to general relativity and cosmology.

Book Synopsis Statistical Challenges in Modern Astronomy II by : G. Jogesh Babu
Download or read book Statistical Challenges in Modern Astronomy II written by G. Jogesh Babu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern astronomical research faces a vast range of statistical issues which have spawned a revival in methodological activity among astronomers. The Statistical Challenges in Modern Astronomy II conference brought astronomers and statisticians together to discuss methodological issues of common interest. Time series analysis, image analysis, Bayesian methods, Poisson processes, nonlinear regression, maximum likelihood, multivariate classification, and wavelet and multiscale analyses were all important themes. Many problems were introduced at the conference in the context of large-scale astronomical projects including LIGO, AXAF, XTE, Hipparcos, and digitised sky surveys. As such, this volume will be of interest to researchers and advanced students in both fields - astronomers seeking exposure to recent developments in statistics, and statisticians interested in confronting new problems.
Book Synopsis Dynamics of Stellar Systems by : K. F. Ogorodnikov
Download or read book Dynamics of Stellar Systems written by K. F. Ogorodnikov and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-10-13 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamics of Stellar Systems focuses on the theoretical problems in stellar dynamics. The book first offers information on stellar dynamics, including historical development, fundamentals of synthetic method, and value of stellar dynamics. The text discusses the fundamental concepts of stellar statistics. Properties of univariate distribution functions; multivariate distribution functions; and statistical properties of stars are explained. The text then describes the elementary theory of galactic rotation and irregular forces in stellar systems. The text also tackles statistical stellar dynamics of neglecting encounters. Considerations include Boltzmann equation in curvilinear coordinates; importance of using one-valued integrals of the motion; and fundamental differential equation of stellar dynamics. The book also underscores the regular orbit of stars and dynamics of centroids. The text describes the dynamics of spherical stellar and rotating stellar systems. The theory of polytropic spheres; basic equations for spherical systems; masses and rotation of galaxies; and boundaries of galaxies are discussed. The text is highly recommended for readers interested in stellar dynamics.

Book Synopsis Dynamical Systems by : Wang Sang Koon
Download or read book Dynamical Systems written by Wang Sang Koon and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book considers global solutions to the restricted three-body problem from a geometric point of view. The authors seek dynamical channels in the phase space which wind around the planets and moons and naturally connect them. These low energy passageways could slash the amount of fuel spacecraft need to explore and develop our solar system. In order to effectively exploit these passageways, the book addresses the global transport. It goes beyond the traditional scope of libration point mission design, developing tools for the design of trajectories which take full advantage of natural three or more body dynamics, thereby saving precious fuel and gaining flexibility in mission planning. This is the key for the development of some NASA mission trajectories, such as low energy libration point orbit missions (e.g., the sample return Genesis Discovery Mission), low energy lunar missions and low energy tours of outer planet moon systems, such as a mission to tour and explore in detail the icy moons of Jupiter. This book can serve as a valuable resource for graduate students and advanced undergraduates in applied mathematics and aerospace engineering, as well as a manual for practitioners who work on libration point and deep space missions in industry and at government laboratories. the authors include a wealth of background material, but also bring the reader up to a portion of the research frontier.

Book Synopsis Entropy, Seismology and the View of Cosmology by : Samvel Akopian
Download or read book Entropy, Seismology and the View of Cosmology written by Samvel Akopian and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2023-04-03 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shows that, to understand the origins of the universe, there is no need to look at deep space or look deep into matter, but, rather, to look at what is hidden under our feet, at our Earth. It notes that various regularities are hidden in the seismicity of the Earth, which can be “seen” by operating with new seismic parameters. These parameters are calculated based on earthquake data recorded by global seismological networks. This approach makes it possible to build a theory of entropy seismology, which can be applied in solving the problem of earthquake prediction, constructing dynamic maps of seismic hazard, and controlling the occurrence of undesirable seismicity as a result of human activity. The book also develops a seismic formalism, which allows one to look at modern problems of physics and cosmology from the unusual positions of entropy seismology.
