Book Synopsis Non Carious Cervical Lesions by : Priyanka S. Gadia
Download or read book Non Carious Cervical Lesions written by Priyanka S. Gadia and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-02-09 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non Carious Cervical Lesions continue to be a matter of great concern especially so as more and more teeth are being retained into the older age and there is increased incidence and severity of lesions experienced. The multifactorial etiology has made the recognition of causal factors in individual patients quite problematic and thereby the prevention and treatment of these lesions remain haphazard. Detailed history is most important to rule out various etiological factors. Oral health-care providers have a crucial role in the early identification of eating disorders and in the referral and management of these patients. Noncarious tooth tissue loss provides a challenge of diagnosis and treatment for the dental surgeon. However today, adequate preventive and/or restorative measures have been instituted to attain high levels of success.Traditionally, Glass Ionomer is the most versatile material. Extensive research has been done on resin-modified glass ionomer and polyacid modified composites.Adhesive technology can be used to treat toothwear and should simplify treatment for this increasingly common problem, producing restorations with excellent appearance and functionalit

Detailed information is presented on pathogenesis, ultrastructure, and diagnosis. All aspects of the carious process are covered, including development of the initial carious lesion limited to the enamel, evolution of the enamel carious lesion toward a dentin carious lesion, superficial and deep dentin lesions, and cervical erosions. Strategies for prevention and dental tissue regeneration are elaborated and both conventional therapies and minimally invasive and non-invasive treatment approaches are discussed. A separate section is devoted to dental fluorosis and the use of fluoridation and remineralisation agents. This scientifically focused and clinically relevant book, written by acknowledged experts in the field, will appeal to dentists seeking to extend their knowledge as well as to researchers, dental students, and other dental professionals.

Book Synopsis Root Caries: From Prevalence to Therapy by : M. Rocha de Olivera Carrilho
Download or read book Root Caries: From Prevalence to Therapy written by M. Rocha de Olivera Carrilho and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Case reports and clinical trials conducted in various countries show, more and more frequently, a positive correlation between the presence of original teeth and prevalence of root caries in older age. Because this is a global trend, it is likely that the predicted increase in the worldwide elderly population may soon cause a significant increase in the number of people requiring effective means of preventing and treating root surface caries. In response to this development, a team of outstanding contributors has reviewed the most important aspects of root caries. This new volume presents their findings along with discussions of how to deal with this health issue that progressively affects the oral health balance. The chapters in this book are divided in four core parts: Epidemiology, Biological Determinants, Lesion Assessment and Features and Preventive and Operative Therapies. The collection of state-of-the-art articles provides a broad overview and will serve as a reference for clinicians as well as scientists and, hopefully, will encourage new research.

Book excerpt: This concise handbook covers all aspects of glass-ionomer cements, from the development of these materials in the early 1970s through to the current state of the art. Their physical, chemical, biological, and clinical properties are described as well as how their formulation and usage have evolved over time, giving rise to newer subcategories of the parent materials. Detailed coverage is provided on the clinical use of glass-ionomer cements in restorative and pediatric dentistry and in widely taught and practiced newer approaches, including atraumatic restorative treatment and minimal intervention dentistry. The authors are internationally acclaimed experts who present information in an easy-to-follow format that will appeal to readers. With the renewed worldwide quest for substitute materials for the more traditional amalgam, glass-ionomer cements have the potential for further development and may play a significant role in future trends.

Book Synopsis Clinical Evaluation of Non-carious Cervical Lesions by : Kanchan Sawlani
Download or read book Clinical Evaluation of Non-carious Cervical Lesions written by Kanchan Sawlani and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) have a non-bacterial origin and produce a loss of tooth structure at the cemento-enamel junction. A review of the literature reveals that these lesions may have a multifactorial etiology (chemical, abrasion, abfraction). The role of heavy biting forces in the pathogenesis of NCCLs is yet to be firmly established. Treatment and preventive measures for NCCLs can be improved if the etiology can be clearly identified and treated. Objective: This prospective clinical trial measureed the volume loss (increase in size) of NCCLs and the occlusal biting forces applied to these teeth; diet and toothbrushing analysis, followed by a comprehensive mounted cast occlusal analysis to determine which factors were significant in the progression of these lesions. Materials and Methods: Patients with non-carious cervical lesions were screened and consent obtained. Digital images and poly vinyl siloxane impressions (Aquasil Ultra/Dentsply, USA) were made, casts poured (Fujirock Type IV Die & model stone/ GC America). To measure the NCCL depth and volume, casts were scanned using Proscan 2000 Non Contact Profilometer, and the scans were superimposed over the baseline scans with the Proform software to measure the change in NCCLs over a five-year period. T-scan and Fujifilm Pre-scale films (analyzed by Topaq Occlusal Analysis System) were used to record the relative and absolute biting forces on teeth with NCCL. Lesion progression from baseline to five years was correlated to absolute occlusal force using regression analysis and KS test for normality. One way ANOVA compared lesion progression with toothbrushing techinique and presence of adverse oral habits like nail biting; while Mann-Whitney test was used to correlate NCCL progression with the diet score. Results: Rate of progression is related to mean bite force (p=0.01), presence of adverse oral habits (p=0.02) and consumption of a more acidic diet (p=0.04); but not associated significantly with occlusal wear facets, group function or toothbrushing technique. Conclusions: Within the limitations of this study, it may be concluded that heavy biting forces, erosive diet and adverse oral habits play a significant role in the progression of NCCLs over time.
