After too many years of unfulfilling work, Bronnie Ware began searching for a job with heart. Despite having no formal qualifications or previous experience in the field, she found herself working in palliative care. During the time she spent tending to those who were dying, Bronnie's life was transformed. Later, she wrote an Internet blog post, outlining the most common regrets that the people she had cared for had expressed. The post gained so much momentum that it was viewed by more than three million readers worldwide in its first year. At the request of many, Bronnie subsequently wrote a book, The Top Five Regrets of the Dying, to share her story. Bronnie has had a colourful and diverse life. By applying the lessons of those nearing their death to her own life, she developed an understanding that it is possible for everyone, if we make the right choices, to die with peace of mind. In this revised edition of the best-selling memoir that has been read by over a million people worldwide, with translations in 29 languages, Bronnie expresses how significant these regrets are and how we can positively address these issues while we still have the time. The Top Five Regrets of the Dying gives hope for a better world. It is a courageous, life-changing book that will leave you feeling more compassionate and inspired to live the life you are truly here to live.

Book excerpt: From the physician behind the wildly popular NutritionFacts website, How Not to Die reveals the groundbreaking scientific evidence behind the only diet that can prevent and reverse many of the causes of disease-related death. The vast majority of premature deaths can be prevented through simple changes in diet and lifestyle. In How Not to Die, Dr. Michael Greger, the internationally-renowned nutrition expert, physician, and founder of NutritionFacts.org, examines the fifteen top causes of premature death in America-heart disease, various cancers, diabetes, Parkinson's, high blood pressure, and more-and explains how nutritional and lifestyle interventions can sometimes trump prescription pills and other pharmaceutical and surgical approaches, freeing us to live healthier lives. The simple truth is that most doctors are good at treating acute illnesses but bad at preventing chronic disease. The fifteen leading causes of death claim the lives of 1.6 million Americans annually. This doesn't have to be the case. By following Dr. Greger's advice, all of it backed up by strong scientific evidence, you will learn which foods to eat and which lifestyle changes to make to live longer. History of prostate cancer in your family? Put down that glass of milk and add flaxseed to your diet whenever you can. Have high blood pressure? Hibiscus tea can work better than a leading hypertensive drug-and without the side effects. Fighting off liver disease? Drinking coffee can reduce liver inflammation. Battling breast cancer? Consuming soy is associated with prolonged survival. Worried about heart disease (the number 1 killer in the United States)? Switch to a whole-food, plant-based diet, which has been repeatedly shown not just to prevent the disease but often stop it in its tracks. In addition to showing what to eat to help treat the top fifteen causes of death, How Not to Die includes Dr. Greger's Daily Dozen -a checklist of the twelve foods we should consume every day.Full of practical, actionable advice and surprising, cutting edge nutritional science, these doctor's orders are just what we need to live longer, healthier lives.

Book excerpt: THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER! "I had the choice to come back ... or not. I chose to return when I realized that 'heaven' is a state, not a place" In this truly inspirational memoir, Anita Moorjani relates how, after fighting cancer for almost four years, her body began shutting down—overwhelmed by the malignant cells spreading throughout her system. As her organs failed, she entered into an extraordinary near-death experience where she realized her inherent worth . . . and the actual cause of her disease. Upon regaining consciousness, Anita found that her condition had improved so rapidly that she was released from the hospital within weeks—without a trace of cancer in her body! Within this enhanced e-book, Anita recounts—in words and on video—stories of her childhood in Hong Kong, her challenge to establish her career and find true love, as well as how she eventually ended up in that hospital bed where she defied all medical knowledge. In "Dying to Be Me," Anita Freely shares all she has learned about illness, healing, fear, "being love," and the true magnificence of each and every human being!

Book excerpt: In February 1939 it is clear that Britain will soon be at war and will depend on Winston Churchill's leadership. But MI5 learns that an enemy agent has been dispatched to assassinate Churchill. Lord Edward Corinth must identify the killer and his first port of call is Cliveden, the Astors' country house, the focus for those who are prepared to go to any lengths to avert war. Verity Browne is also with the Astors, though she despises the so-called Cliveden Set. Communist Party bosses have told her to get close to another guest, Joseph Kennedy, the American Ambassador, who believes Britain could never win against Germany. Then the Ambassador's sons, Joe and Jack Kennedy, discover a man's body in Cliveden's grounds and Verity recognizes him to be a fellow journalist. As war looms, Edward and Verity enter a tense race against time to identify the assassin. Praise for David Roberts' Previous Novels 'A gripping, richly satisfying whodunit with finely observed characters, sparkling with insouciance and stinging menace.' Peter James 'Roberts pays meticulous attention to period detail and the result is a really well-crafted and charming mystery story.' Daily Mail 'A classic murder mystery with as complex a plot as one could hope for and a most engaging pair of amateur sleuths.' Charles Osborne, author of The Life and Crimes of Agatha Christie 'This is a witty and meticulous recreation of the class- ridden middle England of the 1930s... a perfect example of golden-age mystery traditions with the cobwebs swept away.' Guardian 'The plot is both intricate and enthralling, like Poirot on the high seas, and lovingly recorded by an author with a meticulous eye and a huge sense of fun.' Michael Dobbs

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. hospital embodies society’s hope for itself—a technological bastion standing between us and death. What does the gold standard of rescue, as ideology and industry, mean for the dying patient in the hospital and for the status of dying in American culture? This book shows how dying is a management problem for hospitals, occupying space but few billable encounters and of little interest to medical practice or quality control. An anthropologist and bioethicist with two decades of professional nursing experience, Helen Chapple goes beyond current work on hospital care to present fine-grained accounts of the clinicians, patients, and families who navigate this uncharted, untidy, and unpredictable territory between the highly choreographed project of rescue and the clinical culmination of death. This book and its important social and policy implications make key contributions to the social science of medicine, nursing, hospital administration, and health care delivery fields.

That book was mostly about the author’s misadventures in Alaska. Many of his friends and associates approached him after reading the book and told him their stories which were very similar to his. He collected those stories and with a few details filled in and some observations by Bob, compiled them into the second book. This book is also written in a humorous fashion, but again conveys the apprehension, excitement and relief involved in life threatening adventures. This book shows how a relatively small mistake can quickly put one’s life at risk in the Alaska wilderness. It also takes the reader on adventures throughout Alaska with a whole new cast of characters who continue the tradition of questionable judgment and bad luck. You will experience airplane crashes, wild critters trying to eat folks, extreme weather, malfunctioning equipment, sinking boats and many other challenges. These stories give the reader a personal look at how many Alaskans live, recreate and somehow survive. It is doubtful many of them would have survived if it weren’t for pure luck. As one can see from these stories, there is not a lot of clear thinking or intelligence involved in most of the stories, but there is an ample amount of excitement. Please enjoy your trip with us through our Alaska misadventures

Book excerpt: A serial killer stalks Harlem's Strivers' Row... On a sweltering Harlem summer night, ex-cop Mali Anderson steps out to celebrate her friend Claudine's divorce from a handsome, cheating deadbeat who couldn't keep his fists out of her face. But Claudine doesn't show up for their dinner. Instead, she is found brutally murdered in her elegant home just off Strivers' Row, and Mali has no doubt Claudine's ex did it. Despite his threats, she can't keep out of the investigation. Especially when another woman meets the same savage, bizarre fate.... The two murders are just the start of a trail that leads street-smart Mali through the trash-talking and wise philosophizing of barbershops, beauty parlors, and bars...and toward a cunning killer whose homegrown hatred is zeroing in on Mali herself.
