No Longer Confined is the story of one man's fight for freedom. It began with physical and emotional imprisonment. from his wheelchair, Christopher shares his story of pursuing an unconfined life. His is a tale filled with joy and pain, victory and defeat, and yet he models for us how a life of adversities can be transformed into a journey toward freedom. Success is born of transcending the expectations of others and growing into your God-given potential. What's in the wheelchair on the book cover? Be the first to solve the mystery and you will win a $250 cash prize! Here is the first clue: the object is mentioned towards the end of the book. This book was released on 2009-11-29 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A pioneer in women's medical care, Penny Budoff has become increasingly convinced that women need medical care and health information that is right for them, not watered down versions of what is right for men -- and with over thirty years of experience, she's ready to provide it. Today we see daily headlines trumpeting the results of the efforts begun by her and the other physicians concerned specifically about women: headlines about heart disease in women, breast cancer, Alzheimer's, hormone replacement therapy, osteoporosis, sexuality -- and, yes, menopause, the once unspoken word. These are the issues of her newest book, incorporating Dr. Budoff's own vast experience and the expertise of additional physicians specializing in each area of womens health. In this one volume, the reader can learn the most up-to-date knowledge about what to expect in one's middle years: why hormone replacement therapy can solve the side effects of menopause and givea woman freedom from osteoporosis, heart disease and even Alzheimer's disease; why natural estrogens and vitamins are essential; why the brain is our most important organ -- and can be kept healthy for decades; why cervical cancer is a sexually transmitted disease. All this information is accessible in this one valuable book.
Book Synopsis Seven Ethics Against Capitalism by : Oli Mould
Download or read book Seven Ethics Against Capitalism written by Oli Mould and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-06-15 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capitalism has become so dominant that it is difficult to ever imagine a world in which its injustices and inequalities are not violently present. In this ambitious and compelling book, Oli Mould turns his diagnosis of capitalism's perversions towards defining the new set of ethics we need to succeed in organizing a more just society. In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, capitalism has been rocked to its foundations and 'the commons' as a means of providing for all people in our world has come crashing into the foreground. However, in order for the commons to be a viable alternative to the injustices of capitalism, it needs to be grown to a planetary scale. This is not an easy process, but if we can commit to act ethically in the world, then suddenly anything is possible. Blending theoretical thinking and real-life examples of commoning in action, Mould guides the reader through a suite of ethical mindsets – mutualism, transmaterialism, minoritarianism, decodification, slowness, failure and love – which can stand firm against capitalism's seemingly inexorable ability to co-opt and subsume all before it. When thought of collectively, these ethics can offer tantalizing visions and practical approaches towards a world beyond capitalism.

Book Synopsis Are You Alone Wise? by : Susan Schreiner
Download or read book Are You Alone Wise? written by Susan Schreiner and published by OUP USA. This book was released on 2011-01-27 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of certitude is much debated today. On one side, commentators such as Charles Krauthammer urge us to achieve "moral clarity." On the other, those like George Will contend that the greatest present threat to civilization is an excess of certitude. To address this uncomfortable debate, Susan Schreiner turns to the intellectuals of early modern Europe, a period when thought was still fluid and had not yet been reified into the form of rationality demanded by the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.Schreiner argues that Europe in the sixteenth century was preoccupied with concerns similar to ours; both the desire for certainty -- especially religious certainty -- and warnings against certainty permeated the earlier era. Digging beneath overt theological and philosophical problems, she tackles the underlying fears of the period as she addresses questions of salvation, authority, the rise of skepticism, the outbreak of religious violence, the discernment of spirits, and the ambiguous relationship between appearance and reality. In her examination of the history of theological polemics and debates (as well as other genres), Schreiner sheds light on the repeated evaluation of certainty and the recurring fear of deception. Among the texts she draws on are Montaigne's Essays, the mystical writings of Teresa of Avila, the works of Reformation fathers William of Occam, Luther, Thomas Muntzer, and Thomas More; and the dramas of Shakespeare. The result is not a book about theology, but rather about the way in which the concern with certitude determined the theology, polemics and literature of an age.

Book excerpt: Ken Wilbers revolutionary thinking is beginning to shift the orientation of Western culture. Wilber combines his knowledge as mystic, scientist, psychologist and philosopher to create comprehensive concepts for understanding our world and our place in it. This integral approach is much needed in a world torn by conflicts of religion, culture, and ideology. Lew Howard says, I wrote this book to make the work of Ken Wilber accessible to the average person. Wilbers integral understanding (which is an interlocking whole) is broken down into concepts that can be individually understood. These understandings result in an integral conception of the Kosmos. Wilbers insights revolutionized my spiritual practiceand can do the same for you.
