Book excerpt: David Marion has been addicted to everything from Rice Krispie bars to Heroin, hookers to slot machines. He made tens of millions of dollars and gambled it all away. He lost his only wife to divorce, his two daughters for a time, and his extremely successful brokerage firm to bankruptcy. And eventually, he lost his freedom, too, when he was indicted and sentenced to five years in federal prison for mail fraud and money laundering, all because of his addictions. Through these experiences, David has become an expert in addiction and recovery and now spends his time as a Recovery Coach, Professional Interventionist, and Public Speaker. He now brings that expertise to a wider audience with his first book, Addiction Rescue; The NO-BS Guide to Recovery. Addiction or Substance Use Disorder (SUD) is a disease of the body mind and spirit and Addiction Rescue is the one, all-inclusive book with the how-to's to restore all three areas of life. As the chapters progress, the reader sees how addiction plays out from start, to destruction, to recovery and through David's 5-Action process, walks the reader through attaining and maintaining recovery, covering absolutely everything needed to do so.In Addiction Rescue; The NO-BS Guide to Recovery, there is a perfect blend of David's authentic and raw story, enlightening facts and wisdom, along with advice and tools for anyone suffering from an addiction of any kind or anyone affected by someone else's addiction. This book shows what to look for and what to avoid in getting out of addictive behavior and into recovery. There are rules that addiction and recovery require and they are laid out in list form for an easy to understand, comprehensive guide. There are Tear-Out Sheets at the end of the book so the reader can easily refer to these rules on a regular basis. And, there are also tear-out sheets sighting the excuses addicts use to stay stuck, the warning signs to relapse, and how to disrupt obsessive thinking. These are essential tools to stay on track and keep in check. With the opioid epidemic that faces our country, taking 198 lives a day, 210 million people suffering from internet and social media addiction, 6-8% of the population addicted to sex, 2.6% of the population suffering from gambling addiction, and the plethora of other addictive distractions out there, there's never been a more pertinent time in history for this book. Substance use disorder doesn't discriminate, it affects people of all ages and walks of life and Addiction Rescue; The NO-BS Guide to Recovery is an absolute must for an addicted nation.

Book excerpt: Many people are either addicted to, or recovering from addiction, whether it is alcohol, or drugs, prescription medication, sex, gambling, porn or the internet. This is a workbook and personal guide to finding freedom from our addictions. Drunk No More is a recovery workbook for all kinds of addictions that will help addicts make significant steps into recovery and sobriety. A help for managing your addiction and breaking destructive habits Despite unprecedented attention on addiction and recovery, the Centers for Disease control estimates that 114 people die a day because of drug misuse. Other sources estimate that a mere 5 to 20 percent of people who go through formal addiction recovery programs make it to sobriety in the first two years. There is clearly a need to include holistic methods to prevent relapse and building a new life after addiction. Drunk No More workbook offers a practical daily do it yourself best practices approach to long term relapse prevention and sobriety. Follow this strategy and you might as well achieve the recovery and sobriety results achieved by others who managed to heal from their addictions. Like cancer traits in a human body, addictive behaviors fall on a spectrum, and they can be a normal response to extreme situations. Drunk No More is a guide to helping you become "normal again". This book is unlike other normal informational addiction and recovery books, educating you on what addiction is or what it is not, and which treatment approach works best for any individuals, rather, this is a workbook that you can use to reset your mind and brain to then recreate your desired life. Because recovery is possible, you can stop any compulsive behavior and experience sobriety. Drunk No More is a paradigm shifting recovery and sobriety platform for living free from addiction.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An updated, expanded history of techno music with special attention to its roots in Detroit. When it was originally published in 1999, Techno Rebels became the definitive text on a hard-to-define but vital genre of music. Author Dan Sicko demystified techno's characteristics, influences, and origins and argued that although techno enjoyed its most widespread popularity in Europe, its birthplace and most important incubator was Detroit. In this revised and updated edition, Sicko expands on Detroit's role in the birth of techno and takes readers on an insider's tour of techno's past, present, and future in an enjoyable account filled with firsthand anecdotes, interviews, and artist profiles. Techno Rebels begins by examining the underground 1980s party scene in Detroit, where DJs and producers like the Electrifying Mojo, Ken Collier, The Wizard, and Richard Davis were experimenting with music that was a world apart from anything happening in New York or Los Angeles. He details the early days of the "Belleville Three"—Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson—who created the Detroit techno sound and became famous abroad as the sound spread to the UK and Europe. In this revised edition, Sicko delves deeper into the Detroit story, detailing the evolution of the artists and scene into the mid-1990s, and looks to nearby Ann Arbor to consider topics like the Electrifying Mojo's beginnings, the role of radio station WCBN, and the emergence of record label Ghostly International. Sicko concludes by investigating how Detroit techno functions today after the contrived electronica boom of the late 1990s, through the original artists, new sounds, and Detroit's annual electronic music festival. Ultimately, Sicko argues that techno is rooted in the "collective dreaming" of the city of Detroit—as if its originators wanted to preserve what was great about the city—its machines and its deep soul roots. Techno Rebels gives a thorough picture of the music itself and the trailblazing musicians behind it and is a must-read for all fans of techno, popular music, and contemporary culture.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The potential failure of a large bank presents vexing questions for policymakers. It poses significant risks to other financial institutions, to the financial system as a whole, and possibly to the economic and social order. Because of such fears, policymakers in many countries—developed and less developed, democratic and autocratic—respond by protecting bank creditors from all or some of the losses they otherwise would face. Failing banks are labeled "too big to fail" (or TBTF). This important new book examines the issues surrounding TBTF, explaining why it is a problem and discussing ways of dealing with it more effectively. Gary Stern and Ron Feldman, officers with the Federal Reserve, warn that not enough has been done to reduce creditors' expectations of TBTF protection. Many of the existing pledges and policies meant to convince creditors that they will bear market losses when large banks fail are not credible, resulting in significant net costs to the economy. The authors recommend that policymakers enact a series of reforms to reduce expectations of bailouts when large banks fail.
