Book excerpt: Epoxidation of natural rubber was carried out by using hydrogen peroxide and acetic acid on natural rubber latex at pH5 and temperature below 15 C. Thermorgravimetric analysis, bomb calorimetric measurements, proton and 13C NMR spectra of varoius epoxidised natural rubber samples were studied. The thermal stability of the exposided natural rubber is found to be superior than natural rubber. It is found that the NMR methods are better and simpler than the HBr-acetic acidtitration in the determination of the extent of epoxidation of natural rubber. [Authors' abstract].

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blends of natural rubber with speciality synthetic rubbers, such as nitrile rubber and ethylene propylene rubbers, have, in the past, failed to combine the best properties of polymers, resulting in a poor return in terms of added value from the blending process. The idea of blending synthetic rubbers with natural rubbe is certainly not a new one, but it is only now that this can be shown to be possible with consistently positive resluts, but eh use of novel techniques which this book describes, giving valuable information on the technology required and the results which can be achieved. Blends of Natural Rubber is an invaluable source of information for all those working in the area of rubber technology and polymer blend technology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first comprehensive collection of electronic aspects of different kinds of elastomer composites, including combinations of synthetic, natural and thermoplastic elastomers with different conducting fillers like metal nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, or graphenes, and many more. It covers elastomer composites, which are useful in electronic applications, including chemical and physical as well as material science aspects. The presented elastomer composites have great potential for solving emerging new material application requirements, for example as flexible and wearable electronics. The book is structured and organized by the rubber/elastomer type: each chapter describes a different elastomer matrix and its composites. While introducing to important fundamentals, it is application-oriented, discussing the current issues and challenges in the field of elastomer composites. This book will thus appeal to researchers and scientists, to engineers and technologists, but also to graduate students, working on elastomer composites, or on electronics engineering with the composites, providing the readers with a sound introduction to the field and solutions to both fundamental and applied problems.
