Fähigkeiten, die ein Mensch durch seine individuelle Lern- und Lebensgeschichte besitzt, für ihn effektiv nutzbar zu machen. NLP findet gegenwärtig Anwendung in einer Vielzahl von Bereichen, wie beispielsweise Gesundheitswesen, Pädagogik, Medien, Politik, Rechtssprechung, Managementtraining, Therapie oder Sport, um nur einige zu nennen. Intention der vorliegenden Seminararbeit ist es, anhand der Ursprünge und grundlegenden Theorien des NLP aufzuzeigen, wie die erste Generation, auf die ich mich in meiner Arbeit fokussiere, ein Blendwerk geschaffen hat, das von Beginn an als Verkaufsschlager intendiert zu sein scheint. Ich stelle die Hypothese auf, dass ein Gründungsmythos und darauf aufbauende Legendenbildung entscheidend zum Erfolg des NLP beitragen, denn sie begründen das gesellschaftliche Image dieses - hier soziologisch betrachteten - Phänomens. Die abenteuerliche Pionierzeit, in denen das NLP als 'pseudo-wissenschafltliches Blumenkind' auf dem akademisches Forschungsfeld der progressiven Gemeinde von Santa Cruz gedieh, wird in den zahllosen unkritischen NLP-Büchern attraktiv und verkaufsfördernd, aber wohl kaum wahrheitsgemäß geschildert. Die selbst-immunisierende Wirkung dieses schönen Märchens, aus dem sich schließlich alle NLP-Heilsversprechen ableiten, wird bei den unzählbaren Anbietern von NLP-Seminaren, -Anwendungen, -Workshops, -Literatur und sonstigen Produkten offenkundig.
