She couldn't understand why someone would want to follow her but she just knew someone was by the eerie feeling she had from time to time. She was out looking at properties for their business today while Gabriella and Niko were on their honeymoon. Nina's quest was to find the perfect property to show Gabriella when she got back. The property she was looking at she called the "House of Gables". It was so unique she wanted to get a better look at the grounds around back. While looking at the back property she heard the sound of tires crunching on leaves. Like someone had pulled into the driveway. She wanted to panic, but she knew that wouldn't help, she reached for her cell phone but she had left that and her purse in her vehicle. Damn now what could she do, her Dad was right she should not have come out here alone. Why was she so stubborn and never listened to anyone? She was trapped and no way to call for help. She wondered who this person was and why was he trying to scare her. Well try or not he had definitely succeeded in scaring her half to death. More importantly would she get to see her family again!!

Book excerpt: This volume presents perspectives of creative arts therapies approaches in adoption and foster care. Creative arts therapists will find this collection to be of particular relevance, but the intention is to also introduce this subject to a wide range of clinicians, including those in the associated professions of social work, counseling, psychology, psychiatry, nursing, teaching, and related fields. The chapters refer specifically to the development and contemporary application of creative arts therapies approaches in adoption and foster care. The chapters reflect the ways in which creative arts therapies can be applied in different settings, and represent the spectrum of ideas in current practice. The first seven chapters focus on adoption and present theoretical perspectives on adoption adjustment that include psychodynamic, attachment, social role, family systems, stress and coping, object relations, trauma, cognitive-behavioral, and biological perspectives. A variety of psychological constructs are explored, such as trust attachment, abandonment, rejection, self-esteem, identity integration, grief, and loss. These chapters also reflect types of work with specific adoption populations, including international and transracial. Individual, group, and family therapy formats are outlined. Approaches to treatment including art, drama, music, play, and sand tray therapy are presented predominantly in case study format. In some cases, diagnosis and assessment are discussed. In Part Two, the five chapters that focus on foster care explore the creative arts therapist’s role in the social system; attachment and foster care research; issues such as self-esteem, boundaries, guilt, shame, loss, ambivalence, aggression, splitting, rejection, trauma; themes of abuse and neglect, resilience. and behavioral and emotional disturbances. Five chapters exploring transcultural and transracial issues are the focus of Part Three. This book will help meet a demand for ideas and practical information about this topic on the part of an audience reaching beyond the creative arts therapies.

Book excerpt: Four smart women . . . and their foolish choice. In love with the same man. The wrong man. Women found him so easy to love. Clay Bowen had it all—charisma, good looks, and power in the glamorous world of television. Laura, the delicate dancer, gave up her dazzling career to marry him and have his child. Nina excelled at everything—except capturing her father’s complete attention. Bambi, his ruthless young “assistant,” thought she was using him. And Susan, a brilliant writer, couldn’t bear to think their twenty-year bicoastal romance was too good to be true. In her most riveting novel since The Best of Everything, Rona Jaffe weaves a compelling story of passion and obsession. Moving from the glittering capitals of the world and the epicenter of the TV and movie industries to the darkest depths of the human heart, she holds her readers captive to the very last page. Praise for An American Love Story “Jaffe comprehends the ambivalence of women in love like few other contemporary novelists.”—New Woman “Compelling . . . a novel of growth, despair, destruction and realization—a novel to read and have a daughter read.”—UPI “Savvy and sharp.”—St. Petersburg Times “Thoughtful, provocative.”—San Antonio Express-News

Book excerpt: About the Book In the thrilling continuation of the Fate series, Patsy Garcia is now in hiding after the Nuestra Familia gang ordered her execution for ratting them out to the police. For nearly six years she has been in hiding, with the daughter she and Sergio, the leader of the Nuestra, created all those years ago. During the COVID pandemic, the La Familia’s search stalled, but never stopped. Thinking the danger has passed, Patsy enrolls Alicea in school in a remote, rural town far away. But this only leads La Familia to discover their location, and mother and daughter must make a harrowing escape with the aid of the Cowboy Cop, Chuck Reynolds. As the three are on the run, they are guided and protected by Blanca, a Guardian Angel assigned to Patsy and Alicea, and their devoted family and friends. Only through resourcefulness, strength, faith, and a sprinkling of miracles will they survive, and live the peaceful lives they’ve only ever imagined. About the Author Debra Ann Ristau is a historian at heart who believes nonfiction should be truthful and fiction should inspire, intrigue, and entertain. She hopes the Fate series does all three. After decades of writing nonfiction, she is thrilled to offer this book as the second of an exciting series. To learn more, visit debraannristau.com.
