Book excerpt: Excerpt from Nimrod in the North, or Hunting and Fishing Adventures in the Arctic Regions In writing of Nimrod in the North, the author has confined himself almost exclusively to such scenes and adventures as came Within his personal knowledge a few years since, in the region north of Hudson's Bay, and, more recently, in the interior of Alaska. He has sought at the same time, however, to describe in a general way the life Of the sportsman in the Polar wast-e -his trials and his triumphs, his cares and his comforts, his camps and his sledges, his singular native allies and their ingenious weapons Of the chase, and (above all) the animals he may pursue - or that may pursue him, - and in doing so has added a yery few interesting hunting anecdotes from the Arctic works of others. Book excerpt: A dedicated deer hunter “writes with humor and insight” about his adventures—and misadventures—in the wild (Orlando Sentinel). Every autumn, millions of men and women across the country don their camo, stock up on doe urine, and undertake a quintessential American tradition—deer hunting. The pinnacle of a hunter’s quest is killing a buck with antlers that “score” highly enough to qualify for the Boone and Crockett record book. But in all his seasons on the trail, Pete Bodo, an avid outdoorsman and student of the hunt, had never reached that milestone. Sadly, he had to admit it: He was a nimrod. Whitetail Nation is the uproarious story of the season Pete Bodo set out to kill the big buck. From the rolling hills of upstate New York to the vast and unforgiving land of the Big Sky to the Texas ranches that feature high fences, deer feeders, and money-back guarantees, Bodo traverses deep into the heart of a lively, growing subculture that draws powerfully on durable American values: the love of the frontier, the importance of self-reliance, the camaraderie of men in adventure, the quest for sustained youth, and yes, the capitalist’s right to amass every high tech hunting gadget this industry’s exploding commerce has to offer. Gradually, Bodo closes in on his target—that elusive monster buck—and with each day spent perched in a deer stand or crawling stealthily in high grass (praying the rattlesnakes are gone), or shivering through the night in a drafty cabin (flannel, polar fleece, and whiskey be damned), readers are treated to an unforgettable tour through a landscape that ranges from the exalted to the absurd. Along the way Bodo deftly captures the spirit and passion of this rich American pursuit, tracing its history back to the days of Lewis and Clark and examining that age old question: “Why do men hunt?”

Book excerpt: Large format 8.5x11, full colour high glossy pages with over 60 custom high-resolution maps, graphics and photos. When you get the chronology right, the cartography right and the archaeology right, you will get the Bible text right. What you read in the book you find in the ground! This is the Bible story of the origin of civilization after the global Noahic flood. Christian Archaeological Dating (CAD) requires that no archaeology predates the flood. Scripture dates creation to 5554 BC and the Flood to 3298 BC using the Septuagint. Eight Bible markers in Genesis 10-11 decode the date of the Tower of Babel to around 2850 BC. Archaeology informs us that the Tower of Babel was a Temple to Enki, the freshwater god and was similar in design to the Stepped Pyramid of Djoser in Egypt. In Sumerian flood stories, Enki was the rebel god who warned "Noah" to build the ark over the wishes of the supreme god Enlil who had decreed the destruction of mankind. Ancient Jewish, Christian and secular literary sources unanimous record that Nimrod built the Tower of Babel. Josephus tells us that Nimrod built the Tower of Babel to survive a possible second global flood. Archaeological excavations at Eridu (Babel) demonstrate how over 350 years, Nimrod built 17 pagan mudbrick temples, one upon the other, all dedicated to Enki, the "savior of mankind". In Sumerian myths, Enki also caused the division of languages at Babel (Gen 11). During this earliest period of post-flood civilization, "rebel" Nimrod plays a key and central role in almost every area. The identity of Nimrod is unknown, but he is best represented by the character of Enmerkar in Sumerian literary sources. Although excavations at biblical Babel (Tel Eridu) in the 1940's did not find any evidence of the Tower itself, evidence of the 300-meter square elevated platform upon which the Tower of Babel was going to be built has been documented. The city of Eridu (Babel) and the platform were abandoned for 750 years until the Assyrian King Ur-Nammu built a Ziggurat Temple to Enki upon it in 2100 BC. Abraham leaves Ur the very year that Ur-Nammu begins construction of the Ziggurat in 2100 BC. To the Christian Nimrod is antitypical of Satan, Absalom and Judas as the epitome of rebellion, treason and betrayal against the One True God. The Tower of Babel represents false world religions and false Christian doctrines.

Eustace Le Neve said, musingly, as he gazed in front of him with a comprehensive glance at the long gray moor and the wide expanse of black and stormy water. "It's bleak, of course; bleak and cold, I grant you; all this upland plateau about the Lizard promontory seems bleak and cold everywhere; but to my mind it has a certain wild and weird picturesqueness of its own for all that. It aims at gloo-miness. I confess in its own way I don't dislike it."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study assesses the significance of the hunting cult as a major element of the imperial experience in Africa and Asia. Through a study of the game laws and the beginnings of conservation in the 19th and early-20th centuries, the author demonstrates the racial inequalities which existed between Europeans and indigenous hunters. Africans were denied access to game, and the development of game reserves and national parks accelerated this process. Indigenous hunters in Africa and India were turned into "poachers" and only Europeans were permitted to hunt. In India, the hunting of animals became the chief recreation of military officers and civilian officials, a source of display and symbolic dominance of the environment. Imperial hunting fed the natural history craze of the day, and many hunters collected trophies and specimens for private and public collections as well as contributing to hunting literature. Adopting a radical approach to issues of conservation, this book links the hunting cult in Africa and India to the development of conservation, and consolidates widely-scattered material on the importance of hunting to the economics and nutrition of African societies.
