Book excerpt: (The author is donating 100% of all his proceeds from this book to charitable work to share the teachings of Gotama Buddha.)Gotama Buddha's teachings are not based in belief. His teachings need to be learned and practiced with guidance so that you can independently observe the truth in his teachings to acquire wisdom. It is this new found wisdom that the mind starts to gradually function in the world differently to attain a peaceful, calm, serene, and content mind with joy....the Enlightened mind.Since everything we do is experienced through the mind if the mind is peaceful, calm, serene, and content with joy, one will experience a life that is also peaceful, calm, serene, and content with joy.Attaining Enlightenment, also known as Nibbana, is a mind that has attained peace, calm, serenity, and contentedness with joy that is permanent. The mind can be trained to completely eliminate such discontent feelings as sadness, anger, frustration, irritation, annoyance, guilt, shame, fears, loneliness, boredom, shyness, jealousy, and all other negative feelings that cause the mind to be discontent and experience suffering. This book, "Developing a Life Practice: The Path That Leads to Nibbana" provides the reader in-depth teachings and guidance to walk The Path to Enlightenment. Resources are provided, at no cost, that sync up with this book to allow the reader the opportunity to more fully explore these teachings through Youtube Videos, Podcasts, Online Courses, In-Person Courses/Retreats, and an Online Community where you can seek guidance in learning and practicing these teachings directly from the author of this book. This book is well suited for beginning through to advanced practitioners to learn and practice the teachings of "The Buddha" to include developing a meditation practice as taught by Gotama Buddha. It is a book that you will read and re-read countless times as a guide on The Path to Enlightenment and you will have the ability to seek clarification of the teachings directly from the author at no cost.

If you have practiced meditation for a while and are looking for a clear path to liberation-Nibbāna, this book may have the information you seek. I have been on this journey most of my adult life. Unfortunately, I often felt like I was walking in a circle, without a clear path to my end goal. This is all too common among people who try meditating, perhaps relying on advice from books, YouTube, or the internet. This story has a happy ending for me: liberation-Nibbāna-eternal bliss. I hope this book helps you find freedom, peace, and the happiness of liberation-Nibbāna in this life.

Similar to his previous study of satipaa'-a'-hana, he brings a new dimension to our understanding by comparing Pali texts with versions that have survived in Chinese, Sanskrit and Tibetan. The result is a wide-ranging exploration of what these practices meant in early Buddhism.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book is divided into two parts that I have called "THE WHY" and "THE HOW". Part I shows you WHY you should practise the Dhamma with a view to Nibbana. It is designed to make you understand how rare is the appearance of a Buddha and how very fortunate you are to be born at a time when the teachings of a Buddha are available. It also shows you how difficult and rare it is to be born as a human being. It is designed to encourage you to strive on with diligence and concentrated, continuous effort. Part II concentrates on "HOW" one practises the Dhamma with a view to Nibbana. Once you have realized the urgency of practising the Dhamma, it is important to know how to practise the Dhamma with a view to Nibbana. "THE HOW" begins by introducing you to Nibbana and the characteristics that must be destroyed to attain it, and then goes on to show how one destroys or eradicates each of these characteristics. It is designed to introduce the reader to the practice of the Dhamma with a view to enlightenment."--Author's preface

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some twenty-five centuries after the Buddha started teaching, his message continues to inspire people across the globe, including those living in predominantly secular societies. What does it mean to adapt religious practices to secular contexts? Stephen Batchelor, an internationally known author and teacher, is committed to a secularized version of the Buddha’s teachings. The time has come, he feels, to articulate a coherent ethical, contemplative, and philosophical vision of Buddhism for our age. After Buddhism, the culmination of four decades of study and practice in the Tibetan, Zen, and Theravada traditions, is his attempt to set the record straight about who the Buddha was and what he was trying to teach. Combining critical readings of the earliest canonical texts with narrative accounts of five members of the Buddha’s inner circle, Batchelor depicts the Buddha as a pragmatic ethicist rather than a dogmatic metaphysician. He envisions Buddhism as a constantly evolving culture of awakening whose long survival is due to its capacity to reinvent itself and interact creatively with each society it encounters. This original and provocative book presents a new framework for understanding the remarkable spread of Buddhism in today’s globalized world. It also reminds us of what was so startling about the Buddha’s vision of human flourishing.

Book excerpt: This careful analysis of early Buddhist thought opens out a perspective in which no permanent Self is accepted, but a rich analysis of changing and potent mental processes is developed. It explores issues relating to the not-Self teaching: self-development, moral responsibility, the between-lives period, and the 'undetermined questions' on the world, on the 'life principle' and on the liberated one after death. It examines the 'person' as a flowing continuity centred on consciousness or discernment (vinnana) configured in changing minds-sets (cittas). The resting state of this is seen as 'brightly shining' - like the 'Buddha nature' of Mahayana thought - so as to represent the potential for Nirvana. Nirvana is then shown to be a state in which consciousness transcends all objects, and thus participates in a timeless, unconditioned realm.

This book was released on 2015-03-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this booklet are the beginning instructions for Mett or Loving-kindness Meditation, as part of the 'Practice of the Brahmaviharas.' Bhante Vimalaramsi calls this Tranquil Wisdom Insight Meditation or TWIM for short. This is the practice described in earliest Buddhist teachings that the Buddha gave the monks to attain Nibbana. The way Bhante teaches this meditation practice yields very fast results. The warm, happy feeling of Loving-kindness, and the 6Rs practice system Bhante has discovered based on right-effort, gives you deep and profound states of meditation in only a matter of weeks or even days, when practiced consistently. Did you know Loving-kindness will take you deeper faster than doing Breath Meditation? Did you know that Metta DOES take you to Nibbana? This booklet gives the preliminary instructions for the practice of Metta and how to handle hindrances. This practice can also be brought into your daily life and helps with all your life/work situations and the many relationships you have. Mindfulness is re-defined here and practicing in this way yields the attainment of what Bhante calls the Tranquil Aware Jhanas. They are related to concentration Jhanas but are not the same. Through this practice, you can experience these deep states within days or weeks, not years or decades. Even just doing sitting practice at home. Bhante has students he has never met or taken a retreat who have gone all the way to awakening by using this system at home. Everything is here, and in detail, with many tips and examples, to get the meditator on his way to experiencing awakening in this very life. For more than 40 years Bhante Vimalaramsi researched and practiced many methods without finding any real satisfaction. He went back to the earliest Buddhist teachings, using the Majjhima Nikaya and found what he was seeking. He found the step that had been left out! Find out what that is (hint- to 'tranquilize'). Bhante Vimalaramsi's method of "The 6Rs", is the key to the step he found, which is the "Relax" step. In the suttas, it is called "Tranquilize." Once you learn this practice you can continue by going to Bhante's website and doing online retreats from home or visiting his center one of the retreats around the world he conducts. Bhante Vimalaramsi has been a monk since 1986 and practiced with many of the major Buddhist teachers in Asia. He now teaches all over the world and is the abbot of the Dhamma Sukha Meditation Center near St. Louis, Mo, USA. He is also the US representative to the World Buddhist Summit.
