Book Synopsis The Triple-Post Offense by : Fred Winter
Download or read book The Triple-Post Offense written by Fred Winter and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-18 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Beautiful." -- Kobe Bryant "The most comprehensive system ever devised for playing basketball." -- Nicholas Dawidoff, New York Times This is it. A book just as famous as it has been (until now) nearly impossible to find. The "Triangle Offense," deployed with devastating effect by Phil Jackson as coach of the Chicago Bulls during the 80s and 90s and of the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2000s, was first comprehensively set forth in this classic book by Fred "Tex" Winter. Winter himself was a consultant to Jackson during the Bulls and Lakers years. Now Jackson has brought back the Triangle for the New York Knicks. This book does not merely lay out a strategy for play; it offers a philosophy of coaching and of excellence in team athletics that is as valuable to the player as it is to the coach. Perplexingly, this authoritative classic of the sport has been out of print for decades. No longer. "Tex" is back. "The ball movement is beautiful!" -- Tara VanDerveer, women's basketball coach, Stanford. "[Playing the Triangle, we were] a smooth operating machine. Baryshnikov in action! Picasso painting! A beautiful thing!" -- Horace Grant, forward, Chicago Bulls, 1987-1994.

Book excerpt: The mushroom-like growth of new media technologies is radically challenging traditional media outlets. The proliferation of technologies like DVDs, MP3s and the Internet has freed the public from what we used to understand as mass media. In the face of such seismic shifts and ruptures, the theoretical and pedagogical foundations of film and TV studies are being shaken to their core. New Media demands a necessary rethinking of the field. Writing from a range of disciplines and perspectives, the scholars here outline new theses and conceptual frameworks capable of engaging the numerous facets of emergent digital technology.

Book excerpt: From 1996 through 2004, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal combined-- and collided-- to help bring the Lakers three straight championships and restore the franchise as a powerhouse. From public sniping and sparring, to physical altercations and the repeated threats of trade, it was warfare. The eight years of infighting and hostility were by turns mediated and encouraged by coach Phil Jackson. Pearlman shows how the Shaq-Kobe duo resulted in one of the most enduring, and ever-evolving, teams in NBA history. -- adapted from jacket

Download or read book Elevated written by Harvey Araton and published by Triumph Books. This book was released on 2019-04-16 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Howard Beck. Marc Stein. Jonathan Abrams. Chris Broussard. Ira Berkow. George Vecsey. Mike Wise. Selena Roberts. Lee Jenkins. All have graced the pages of The New York Times, entertaining readers with their probing coverage of the N.B.A.: a stage on which spectacular athletes perform against a backdrop of continuous social change. Now, their work and more is collected in a new volume, edited and annotated by Hall of Fame honoree Harvey Araton, tracing basketball's sustained boom from Magic and Bird to the present. Elevated provides a courtside seat to four decades of professional basketball. Both the iconic moments and those quieter, but no less meaningful times in between are here, from Wise riding around Los Angeles with a young Kobe Bryant on the eve of his first All-Star Game, to Stein declaring Giannis Antetokounmpo's "unspeakable greatness" to the world in a riveting profile. Rather than simply preserving the past, Elevated reexamines and further illuminates hoops history. This expertly curated collection features exclusive new writing by Araton and postscripts from the original journalists, revealing candid exchanges with NBA greats that didn't make the original newspaper edit and tracing the rise of a worldwide phenomenon from a contemporary vantage point.

Book Synopsis Offense and Offensiveness by : Andrew Sneddon
Download or read book Offense and Offensiveness written by Andrew Sneddon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-02 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive study of the nature and significance of offense and offensiveness. It incorporates insights from moral philosophy and moral psychology to rationally reconstruct our ordinary ideas and assumptions about these notions. When someone claims that something is offensive, others are supposed to listen. Why? What is it for something to be offensive? Likewise, it’s supposed to matter if someone claims to have been offended. Is this correct? In this book, Andrew Sneddon argues that we should think of offense as a moralized bad feeling. He explains offensiveness in terms of symbolic value. We tend to give claims of both offense and offensiveness more credence than they deserve. While it is in principle possible for there to be genuine moral problems of offense and offensiveness, we should expect such problems to be rare. Offense and Offensiveness: A Philosophical Account will be of interest to scholars and students working in moral philosophy and moral psychology.
