In order to fully understand the teachings of Jesus and his followers, it is important to understand the large body of Scripture that preceded and informed their thinking. Leading evangelical scholars G. K. Beale and D. A. Carson have brought together a distinguished team to provide readers with a comprehensive commentary on Old Testament quotations, allusions, and echoes that appear from Matthew through Revelation. College and seminary students, pastors, scholars, and interested lay readers will want to add this unique commentary to their reference libraries. Contributors Craig L. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monumental commentary on the book of Revelation, originally published in 1999, has been highly acclaimed by scholars, pastors, students, and others seriously interested in interpreting the Apocalypse for the benefit of the church. Too often Revelation is viewed as a book only about the future. As G. K. Beale shows, however, Revelation is not merely a futurology but a book about how the church should live for the glory of God throughout the ages -- including our own. Engaging important questions concerning the interpretation of Revelation in scholarship today, as well as interacting with the various viewpoints scholars hold on these issues, Beale's work makes a major contribution in the much-debated area of how the Old Testament is used in the Apocalypse. Approaching Revelation in terms of its own historical background and literary character, Beale argues convincingly that John's use of Old Testament allusions -- and the way the Jewish exegetical tradition interpreted these same allusions -- provides the key for unlocking the meaning of Revelation's many obscure metaphors. In the course of Beale's careful verse-by-verse exegesis, which also untangles the logical flow of John's thought as it develops from chapter to chapter, it becomes clear that Revelation's challenging pictures are best understood not by apparent technological and contemporary parallels in the twentieth century but by Old Testament and Jewish parallels from the distant past.

Book excerpt: The Book of Revelation contains some of the most difficult passages in Scripture. Grant Osborne's commentary on Revelation interprets the text while also introducing readers to the perspectives of contemporary scholarship in a clear and accessible manner. Osborne begins with a thorough introduction to Revelation and the many difficulties involved in its interpretation. He discusses authorship, date of writing, and the social and cultural setting of the work. He also examines elements that complicate the interpretation of apocalyptic literature, including the use of symbols and figures of speech, Old Testament allusions, and the role of prophetic prediction. Osborne surveys various approaches commentators have taken on whether Revelation refers primarily to the past or to events that are yet future. Rather than exegeting the text narrowly in a verse-by-verse manner, Osborne examines larger sections in order to locate and emphasize the writer's central message and the theology found therein. Throughout, he presents his conclusions in an accessible manner. When dealing with particularly problematic sections, he considers the full range of suggested interpretations and introduces the reader to a broad spectrum of commentators. Revelation seeks to reach a broad audience with scholarly research from a decidedly evangelical perspective.

Book excerpt: What does the first book of the New Testament teach? As the first gospel, the book of Matthew is a bridge between the Old Testament and the New. It presents Jesus as the Messiah predicted in the Old Testament, but also as the Savior whose death was necessary for the salvation of mankind. Yet Matthew also describes the future Kingdom of Jesus when He will reign on earth at His Second Coming. In this fourth volume of the renewed Walvoord Commentary Series, renowned biblical scholar and prophecy expert John Walvoord, along with Dr. Charles Dyer, walks readers through the gospel of Matthew chapter by chapter and unfolds his message of Jesus’ Messianic identity, teachings, miracles, and future return as victorious King. Revised and updated throughout and based on the text of the English Standard Version (ESV), this new edition of Walvoord’s commentary will serve a whole new generation of pastors, leaders, and laypeople.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dispensational Study Bible Matthew - Revelation is a combination of the previous three volume series into one book for those who prefer keeping them together as a whole section which is more commonly referred to as the New Testament. All scriptures quoted are from the 1611 King James Bible. The DSB uses the method of Bible Study called rightly dividing the word of truth found in 2nd Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Saul of Tarsus later became Paul, the apostle of the Gentiles after his salvation on the road to Damascus in Acts 9 when the dispensation of grace was given to the apostle Paul to dispense to the body of Christ today: Ephesians 3:2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: Colossians 1:25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; Today we are to be preaching Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery that was given to the apostle Paul, but sadly, that mystery is still a mystery to most of the body of Christ. That mystery had been kept hid in God until it was revealed to the apostle of the Gentiles to give to us. Romans 11:13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office: Romans 16:25 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, The revelation of the mystery is God revealing to man his manifold wisdom about his plan for the body of Christ in this current dispensation of grace and how it differs from His prophecy program which was made known to the prophets since the world began. Ephesians 3:8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; 9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: 10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, I would ask one thing of those who read this study bible that they actually read it beginning from page 1 and going all the way through it before they make up their mind about it. Taking a verse out of its context is an easy way to lead people astray and make the bible say whatever you want it to say, but reading it in its context will help you to see the dispensational differences as they occur. There are those, and they are many, who are diametrically opposed to the dispensational method of Bible study, largely because translators have taken the word "Dispensation" out of their bibles so they don't even know it is a biblical word. The word dispensation means an economy, a dispensing of truth at one point in time that is different and even contradictory to information dispensed at another time to another group of people. For Example: We today who are believers in Jesus' death, burial and resurrection are a part of the body of Christ. We are not Israel under the law of Moses. We are the body of Christ under grace. Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. A failure to rightly divide the word of truth today has produced all the thousands of denominations that exist today all claiming they are spiritual Israel, They are not. We are a separate and distinct entity. In closing, I would love to thank my wonderful wife Suzanne for all her support over these years enabling me to be able to do what I do. I truly love you.
