Book excerpt: The promise of Easter and spring is new life: rebirth after death, light after darkness, growth after dormancy, and movement after stillness. In the Christian Church calendar, the season of Lent precedes Easter. It is a time of remembering the anguish, pain, hostility, and death that leads to resurrected life. It is the season for releasing what doesn't work in order to make room for the new to be born. In forty meditations (one for each day of Lent) exploring the symbolic truths of scriptures from The Holy Bible, Jungian Analyst Kathleen Wiley invites you on a journey through the dark, unknown aspects of your self to the larger whole of God Within where you find new life.

Book Synopsis Reflections on Romans by : Dr. Randy L. James
Download or read book Reflections on Romans written by Dr. Randy L. James and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2021-11-15 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Out of the Covid-19 Pandemic something meaningful emerged. Beginning at a time when people were locked in their homes while the schools, businesses, and most of society were under quarantine, a desire emerged to do something that would encourage people who were alone. This book began as a daily audible devotional message, made possible by an email link to friends and family around the world, hoping to provide some light during a dark time. Though the virus and its variants are still with us and have taken quite a toll on the nations of the world, there is hope for a day when this particular sickness will be behind us. But even if it lingers, or should another such crisis arise, we always have the Word of God to give us comfort and provide grace to face whatever challenges may come our way. Reflections on Romans will hopefully be a tool that will aid those who continue to look for direction for their lives, and a connection to their God amid such times.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Nicholas Cabasilas' Commentary on the Divine Liturgy is a remarkable product of Byzantium's last great flowering of theology. The work has long been essential reading for specialists in the fields of comparative liturgy and history of liturgy, since Cabasilas comments in detail on the Byzantine rite of his day and is able to draw comparisons with the Roman liturgy as well. The work is also invaluable for all those who wish to understand more about the theory and practice of worship in the Orthodox Church. In this edition the text of the Commentary, translated by J. M. Hussey and P. A. McNulty, has been supplemented by a brief foreword which places Cabasilas' work in its historical context. A helpful introduction by R. M. French describes the celebration of the liturgy in the Orthodox Church."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved

Book Synopsis Generation Ex-Christian by : Drew Dyck
Download or read book Generation Ex-Christian written by Drew Dyck and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2010-10-01 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Young people aren’t walking away from the church—they’re sprinting. According to a recent study by Ranier Research, 70 percent of youth leave church by the time they are 22 years old. Barna Group estimates that 80 percent of those reared in the church will be “disengaged” by the time they are 29 years old. Unlike earlier generations of church dropouts, these “leavers” are unlikely to seek out alternative forms of Christian community such as home churches and small groups. When they leave church, many leave the faith as well. Drawing on recent research and in-depth interviews with young leavers, Generation Ex-Christian will shine a light on this crisis and propose effective responses that go beyond slick services or edgy outreach. But it won’t be easy. Christianity is regarded with suspicion by the younger generation. Those who leave the faith are often downright cynical. To make matters worse, parents generally react poorly when their children go astray. Many sink into a defensive crouch or go on the attack, delivering homespun fire-and-brimstone sermons that further distance their grown children. Others give up completely or take up the spiritual-sounding “all we can do is pray” mantra without truly exploring creative ways to engage their children on matters of faith. Some turn to their churches for help, only to find that they frequently lack adequate resources to guide them. This is where Generation Ex-Christian will lend a hand. It will equip and inspire parents, church leaders, and everyday Christians to reawaken the prodigal's desire for God and set him or her back on the road to a dynamic faith. The heart of the book will be the raw profiles of real-world, young ex-Christians. No two leavers are identical, but upon close observation some categories emerge. The book will identify seven different kinds of leavers (the postmodern skeptic, the drifter, the neopagan, etc.) and offer practical advice for how to connect with each type. Shrewd tips will also intersperse the chapters alerting readers to opportunities for engagement, and to hidden landmines they must sidestep to effectively reach leavers.
Book Synopsis WORDS for Thinking AND THOUGHTS for Meditation by : Paul Krebill
Download or read book WORDS for Thinking AND THOUGHTS for Meditation written by Paul Krebill and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2004-05-13 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WORDS for Thinking AND THOUGHTS for Meditation is a Christian resource for an ordered and effective spiritual devotional experience. Life concerns, as well as social and ethical issues are considered in the light of God’s message through Jesus Christ. Readers will find in this volume three hundred and sixty-six daily devotional readings. Each day’s devotional has a suggested scripture reference as the basis for a brief comment provided for the day. In addition, each reading includes a short prayer. These can be used in a family or small group setting, as well as privately. Since each day’s devotional reading contains a separate and complete message, one can begin using this volume at any time and continue on a daily inspired journey of faith for one’s life. In addressing personal and social issues I have drawn upon more than forty years of pastoral ministry as well as upon a life-long study of Christian theology. In this way I believe my sharing in the real struggles of persons facing life problems and my awareness of the accumulated insights of Christian thinkers come together in this book of devotions, which is designed to give the reader thoughts upon which to meditate along life’s way. —Paul Krebill

Book Synopsis The Universal Christ by : Richard Rohr
Download or read book The Universal Christ written by Richard Rohr and published by Convergent Books. This book was released on 2019-03-05 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From one of the world’s most influential spiritual thinkers, a long-awaited book exploring what it means that Jesus was called “Christ,” and how this forgotten truth can restore hope and meaning to our lives. “Anyone who strives to put their faith into action will find encouragement and inspiration in the pages of this book.”—Melinda Gates In his decades as a globally recognized teacher, Richard Rohr has helped millions realize what is at stake in matters of faith and spirituality. Yet Rohr has never written on the most perennially talked about topic in Christianity: Jesus. Most know who Jesus was, but who was Christ? Is the word simply Jesus’s last name? Too often, Rohr writes, our understandings have been limited by culture, religious debate, and the human tendency to put ourselves at the center. Drawing on scripture, history, and spiritual practice, Rohr articulates a transformative view of Jesus Christ as a portrait of God’s constant, unfolding work in the world. “God loves things by becoming them,” he writes, and Jesus’s life was meant to declare that humanity has never been separate from God—except by its own negative choice. When we recover this fundamental truth, faith becomes less about proving Jesus was God, and more about learning to recognize the Creator’s presence all around us, and in everyone we meet. Thought-provoking, practical, and full of deep hope and vision, The Universal Christ is a landmark book from one of our most beloved spiritual writers, and an invitation to contemplate how God liberates and loves all that is.
Download or read book Christ in Evolution written by Ilia Delio and published by Orbis Books. This book was released on 2008 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ilia Delio goes beyond the debate on evolution and intelligent design to reveal the Christ who is at the center of our lives in a complete universe. She draws on mystics and theologians to locate the love of God at the heart of a total redemptive process, not just physical but cosmic, cultural, spiritual, and taking place in human consciousness. Along the way, she offers surprising insights on issues such as artificial intelligence, technology, the search for extraterrestrial life, and, most of all, the meaning of Christ in our lives and our role as co-creators. Christ in Evolution is not an argument but a way of seeing the universe and our place in it with a vision that is "ancient but ever new.
