I wrote this book out of a huge concern with how terribly hard the transition from graduate nurse to competent nurse is. I thought after I graduated nursing school, I would be equipped to practice nursing successfully... nothing could have been farther from the truth. In addition to nursing job itself being hard, there were so many other challenges that I was not prepared to face: Including, major time management issues, stressful co-worker relations, stressful patient/family relations and much more! "Your book "New Nurse, How to Get, Keep and LOVE Your First Job," helped boost my confidence in that I can achieve anything I set my mind to. The examples you provided helped me realize that all seasoned nurses once were new nurses and they too had the similar insecurities that I have experienced as a new nurse. This idea is calming to me and gives me great hope for the future. I love how you presented the information in such a humble way and I truly enjoyed reading about your experiences and recommendations. I love nursing! Sincerely, Erica Soto RN from Menasha, Wisconsin "I can't thank you enough for these wonderful tools! I used your audio on getting over mistakes and it really helped a lot. I particularly enjoyed the quote from Mark Twain. Also, your words: "First you must forgive yourself and see the lesson that you learned. Understand that you are a good person and that nothing happens that is not in the Divine plan. Second, replace this vision for a new awesome one!!" were so powerful to me and really helped. I actually wrote them down, so that I can refer to them in future. :) Thank you again for these wonderful gifts! I am so inspired by your work and vision. I think it is so great that you have all these resources for nursing students, new nurses, and veteran nurses. Your books seem like wonderful resources for nursing students and nurses alike. Wishing you all the best." Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Future of Nursing explores how nurses' roles, responsibilities, and education should change significantly to meet the increased demand for care that will be created by health care reform and to advance improvements in America's increasingly complex health system. At more than 3 million in number, nurses make up the single largest segment of the health care work force. They also spend the greatest amount of time in delivering patient care as a profession. Nurses therefore have valuable insights and unique abilities to contribute as partners with other health care professionals in improving the quality and safety of care as envisioned in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) enacted this year. Nurses should be fully engaged with other health professionals and assume leadership roles in redesigning care in the United States. To ensure its members are well-prepared, the profession should institute residency training for nurses, increase the percentage of nurses who attain a bachelor's degree to 80 percent by 2020, and double the number who pursue doctorates. Furthermore, regulatory and institutional obstacles-including limits on nurses' scope of practice-should be removed so that the health system can reap the full benefit of nurses' training, skills, and knowledge in patient care. In this book, the Institute of Medicine makes recommendations for an action-oriented blueprint for the future of nursing.

Book excerpt: 5 BIG Reasons Why Most People Will Always Fail To Get The Jobs They Want... And How To Avoid Making The Same Mistakes 1. Reason #1: Employers are looking for passionate and service-dedicated A-players who are driven to deliver results, and who would do anything creative and unconventional to get the jobs they are passionate about. Most job seekers lack the passion, drive and energy for the jobs they go after, thereby violating Big Question 1 of the Job-getting Formula. In Step 1 of this book, you'll learn the secret mindset and winning habits that will offer you "insurance" against failure in getting the job you want. 2. Reason #2: Most people DO NOT take time to investigate the problem of the prospective employer before applying for the job - they therefore send out generic résumés and cover letters, which confirm that they do not have a clue about the employer's problems. Again, violating Big Question 2 of the Job-getting Formula. In Step 2 of this book, you'll learn what I call the "Gold Digger's Approach" for figuring out the exact problem, for which an employer is willing to hire you to solve. 3. Reason #3: Most job seekers send out weak and mediocre résumés and cover letters that DO NOT market and sell their in-demand skills and accomplishments to the employer - instead, these portray them as incompetent "paycheck mongers" who can't deliver results. This violates Big Question 3 of the Job-getting Formula. In Step 3 of this book, you'll learn how to combine some little-known Rules of Influence and other "bad-ass" techniques to FORCE a hiring manager (or hiring decision maker) to call you for an interview. 4. Reason #4: Most job seekers, despite great skills, experience and qualifications, may fall short of the courage (fear of rejection), skills, and techniques of directly contacting informants, in order to rip off vital information regarding problems faced by employers, on one hand; and meet hiring managers to sell their in-demand skills, on the other hand. This violates Big Question 4. In Step 4 of this book, we'll show you how to contact a hiring manager, head of department or hiring decision maker... in a way that makes them see you as competent, confident and "mature" for the job you want. 5. Reason #5: Most job seekers, who succeed to get to the interview stage, fail to prove their worth as marketed and sold by their résumé and cover letter. This is because they lack insider knowledge about the interviewing techniques and psychology used by recruiters, hiring managers and hiring decision makers for judging candidates. This directly violates Big Question 5, and stops them from passing an interview and getting a job offer. In Step 5 of this book, we'll reveal over 178 toughest interview questions as well as the psychology, rules, formulas and techniques for answering them. The rest of this book deals with the details of each Step (or BIG Question) of the Job-getting Formula. You will discover simple, never-before revealed secrets you never could fathom on your own. We'll walk you step-by-step through each one of the killer techniques as we move on.

This requires professional competency in not only the specialty of neuroscience nursing practice, but also in general nursing and interprofessional collaborative practice. Much of the care delivered is through teams, with the nurse being an integral team member. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first year of nursing is always the most difficult. Not having an instructor nearby to help whenever one comes across a tough situation and needing to adjust fairly quickly to the job and realities of the clinical world can be stressful. During the first year of employment, it is critical to have a well-constructed training and preceptorship to help shape new nurses into successful, competent, and confident. Studies have shown that nurses' clinical decision-making skill development is vital in providing safe patient care. Research has also shown that new graduate nurses make numerous errors when faced with clinical decision-making in their first years of their nursing career (AL-Dossary, Kitsantas, and Maddox, 2015). For new nurses in a non-hospital setting, it can be extremely overwhelming because of the lack of an organized new graduate program. According to Spencer and others (2015), though a majority of new nurses work in hospitals, there are still 25% that begin work in a non hospital setting. It is imperative to implement a new graduate residency program in all facilities within the different fields of nursing to support new nurses in their transition into the clinical world to enhance clinical-decision making, reduce patient care errors, and improve job satisfaction, as well as retention. This paper will talk about the need for a residency program for new nurses in a non hospital setting, a proposed solution, an implementation plan to create a change with implementation logistics, an evaluation plan to review the progress and success of the project, and a dissemination plan to provide information for the stakeholders in this project. A review of the literature used to conduct this project, as well as a list of references is also included.
