Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Most 17th and 18th century pirates came from New England and New York. They spent winters in the tropics pilaging and came north to rob in the summer months. Most of their treasures were buried here, closer to their homes, yet little has been uncovered. This book tells about the most notorious pirates who frequented the New England coast, including Kidd and Blackbeard, and describes treasure, thus far found mostly on the outer islands, and where unfound treasures might be uncovered."

Book excerpt: Stories of lost and haunted treasure sites are intermingled through three states in southern New England: Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. Explore supernatural history that abounds and visit ghost towns, lost Native American villages, forgotten mines, and valuable gem discoveries. Pirates were welcome, and when they visited, the legends suggest that they left their loot behind. Begin your search in Rhode Island where Captain Kidd is said to have buried coins at the northern tip of Sandy Point. (Coins from his era have been found here!) Seek pirate treasure said to be hidden in Brooklyn, Windham County, Connecticut (you'd have to look out for the headless horseman who was killed for the gold in question). Pirate treasure is said to be buried on Money Hill in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. A large amount of British gold and silver was discovered in 1973 and thousands of coins have been found dating from the late 18th century. But beware, black dog guardians, wildmen, and pirate ghosts protect these treasures from ever being found. Yo Ho.

Book excerpt: "Called the ""Reader's Digest of New England Archaeology,"" by experts in the field, this book covers all finds and sits by amateur and professional ancient artifact hunters since America was first settled. Hundreds of messages were cut into stone by unknown ancient settlers. Carved faces, well-made homes of rock, Celtic ritual sites, dolmens, and other ancient remnants are scattered throughout the New England states, making it quite apparent that visitors from other lands lived here hundreds of years before Columbus discovered America. Ancient coins, weapons, lamps, containers and art objects have been uncovered as well -- all well documented and described, with photos in this fascinating book."

Part of the Treasure Hunters series, 'Pirate Treasure' offers a crosscurricular mix of science & technology and history & civilizations, with a fun, dramatic approach. Pirate treasures covered in the book include those of the famous Blackbeard and Captain Kidd, the pirate shipwreck the Whydah, and the mysterious Oak Island Money Pit. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research of John A. Boyd tracks all known pirate activity on the island of St. Croix. Many pirates brought treasure to the island as did smugglers and merchants. It is well documented that Captain James Martel was killed on the island and half of his fortune lost to time so he certainly rates a Chapter. Owen Lloyd took the treasure of Nuestra Senora de Guadelupe. Part of Lloyd's treasure was buried on the island and this stash became his bank until he was murdered in Christiansted. His story has been retold for centuries as part of Robert Luis Stevenson's book, Treasure Island. Only a small amount of this treasure remains on St. Croix so his chapter is small. By far the biggest fortune that probably remains hidden on St. Croix is the vast amount of wealth amassed by Jean La Vasseur while Governor of Tortuga. During his reign, 1640 to 1652, he took a minimum of ten percent of all of the prizes captured by the Buccaneers of Tortuga referred to as the Brethren of the Coast. He also collected taxes on all imports to the island. However, he cheated his partner in this criminal empire, Governor Phillippe de Lonvillers dePoincy of St. Croix, by keeping everything for himself. De Poincy retaliated by conquering Tortuga and claiming the Fortune of La Vasseur as his own. After de Poincy's military conquest of Tortuga, this treasure is also lost to time. The research for this book brings that fortune to St. Croix where it is probably still well hidden.

Who were they and why were they here? The Golden Age on Cape Cod in New England was between the years 1690 and 1730 and includes two eras: First is described as the "Pirate Round" the period of the long-distance voyages from the Americas (primarily Providence, RI) to rob Muslim and East India Company targets in the Indian Ocean and Red Sea. This era was followed by the post War of Spanish Succession period and the establishment of a Pirate Republic at New Providence and the Pirate's "Flying "Gang." Pirates have sequestered treasure at many New England locations and the largest Pirate treasure ever found, 4.5 tons of gold, silver and jewels, was found close to shore on Cape Cod.

The infamous Captain Kidd may have prowled the waters off Deer Isle, while farther down the coast a woman and a bloodthirsty band of cutthroats lured ships to disaster at Isles of Shoals. In this colorful history featuring reenactment photos and other illustrations, award-winning investigative journalist Greg Latimer separates historical fact from fiction and leads readers on an adventure through the state’s foggy and treacherous past.

The author grew up and lived on the islands where the pirates lived and plundered. While historically accurate, the book tells exciting and entertaining stories. Sites are identified that are most likely to yield buried and hidden treasure. These sites are described more specifically than other resources, since the author, an avid sportsman, traveler and naturalist, has lived among them his entire life. Information is included on the often overlooked, pirate activity in PA and DE. This book includes specific information on pirate activity in these areas. For example, the house is identified where one of Blackbeard's girlfriends lived. The house (private residence) still stands today, in Marcus Hook, PA.Also, pirate activity in Philadelphia is included. For example, there is information on the infamous “Blue Anchor Tavern,” which Blackbeard habituated. One of the line drawings shows where the tavern was located and how pirate trade from the Delaware River gained access through today's popular, Independence Seaport Museum Details are shared on the five major and two, lesser known, pirates in four states and at sea. The book tells of each pirates' exploits and how each of them came to enter the notorious profession. Also related is the potential to find their treasure in various locations where they operated. Included also, is information on the dedicated-purpose ships and unique weapons that pirates used. The often time, colorful culture of the pirate world explained in the book. This helps the reader to understand the entire scope of their behavior, from a crude form of democracy, to a formula for the distribution of captured wealth. All adults, and students of all ages, will gain an appreciation of the forces that are part of their heritage. Once these facts are recognized, they will see their area as special and through this knowledge develop respect for their environment, both past and present, cultural and ecological. The process provides a solid foundation for building self-esteem.
