Download or read book A Course on Rough Paths written by Peter K. Friz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-27 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With many updates and additional exercises, the second edition of this book continues to provide readers with a gentle introduction to rough path analysis and regularity structures, theories that have yielded many new insights into the analysis of stochastic differential equations, and, most recently, stochastic partial differential equations. Rough path analysis provides the means for constructing a pathwise solution theory for stochastic differential equations which, in many respects, behaves like the theory of deterministic differential equations and permits a clean break between analytical and probabilistic arguments. Together with the theory of regularity structures, it forms a robust toolbox, allowing the recovery of many classical results without having to rely on specific probabilistic properties such as adaptedness or the martingale property. Essentially self-contained, this textbook puts the emphasis on ideas and short arguments, rather than aiming for the strongest possible statements. A typical reader will have been exposed to upper undergraduate analysis and probability courses, with little more than Itô-integration against Brownian motion required for most of the text. From the reviews of the first edition: "Can easily be used as a support for a graduate course ... Presents in an accessible way the unique point of view of two experts who themselves have largely contributed to the theory" - Fabrice Baudouin in the Mathematical Reviews "It is easy to base a graduate course on rough paths on this ... A researcher who carefully works her way through all of the exercises will have a very good impression of the current state of the art" - Nicolas Perkowski in Zentralblatt MATH
Book Synopsis Differentiable Measures and the Malliavin Calculus by : Vladimir Igorevich Bogachev
Download or read book Differentiable Measures and the Malliavin Calculus written by Vladimir Igorevich Bogachev and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2010-07-21 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the reader with the principal concepts and results related to differential properties of measures on infinite dimensional spaces. In the finite dimensional case such properties are described in terms of densities of measures with respect to Lebesgue measure. In the infinite dimensional case new phenomena arise. For the first time a detailed account is given of the theory of differentiable measures, initiated by S. V. Fomin in the 1960s; since then the method has found many various important applications. Differentiable properties are described for diverse concrete classes of measures arising in applications, for example, Gaussian, convex, stable, Gibbsian, and for distributions of random processes. Sobolev classes for measures on finite and infinite dimensional spaces are discussed in detail. Finally, we present the main ideas and results of the Malliavin calculus--a powerful method to study smoothness properties of the distributions of nonlinear functionals on infinite dimensional spaces with measures. The target readership includes mathematicians and physicists whose research is related to measures on infinite dimensional spaces, distributions of random processes, and differential equations in infinite dimensional spaces. The book includes an extensive bibliography on the subject.

Book Synopsis Stochastic Differential Equations by : Bernt Oksendal
Download or read book Stochastic Differential Equations written by Bernt Oksendal and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes are based on a postgraduate course I gave on stochastic differential equations at Edinburgh University in the spring 1982. No previous knowledge about the subject was assumed, but the presen tation is based on some background in measure theory. There are several reasons why one should learn more about stochastic differential equations: They have a wide range of applica tions outside mathematics, there are many fruitful connections to other mathematical disciplines and the subject has a rapidly develop ing life of its own as a fascinating research field with many interesting unanswered questions. Unfortunately most of the literature about stochastic differential equations seems to place so much emphasis on rigor and complete ness that is scares many nonexperts away. These notes are an attempt to approach the subject from the nonexpert point of view: Not knowing anything (except rumours, maybe) about a subject to start with, what would I like to know first of all? My answer would be: 1) In what situations does the subject arise? 2) What are its essential features? 3) What are the applications and the connections to other fields? I would not be so interested in the proof of the most general case, but rather in an easier proof of a special case, which may give just as much of the basic idea in the argument. And I would be willing to believe some basic results without proof (at first stage, anyway) in order to have time for some more basic applications.

Book Synopsis Multidimensional Stochastic Processes as Rough Paths by : Peter K. Friz
Download or read book Multidimensional Stochastic Processes as Rough Paths written by Peter K. Friz and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-02-04 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rough path analysis provides a fresh perspective on Ito's important theory of stochastic differential equations. Key theorems of modern stochastic analysis (existence and limit theorems for stochastic flows, Freidlin-Wentzell theory, the Stroock-Varadhan support description) can be obtained with dramatic simplifications. Classical approximation results and their limitations (Wong-Zakai, McShane's counterexample) receive 'obvious' rough path explanations. Evidence is building that rough paths will play an important role in the future analysis of stochastic partial differential equations and the authors include some first results in this direction. They also emphasize interactions with other parts of mathematics, including Caratheodory geometry, Dirichlet forms and Malliavin calculus. Based on successful courses at the graduate level, this up-to-date introduction presents the theory of rough paths and its applications to stochastic analysis. Examples, explanations and exercises make the book accessible to graduate students and researchers from a variety of fields.

Book Synopsis The Malliavin Calculus and Related Topics by : David Nualart
Download or read book The Malliavin Calculus and Related Topics written by David Nualart and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The origin of this book lies in an invitation to give a series of lectures on Malliavin calculus at the Probability Seminar of Venezuela, in April 1985. The contents of these lectures were published in Spanish in [176]. Later these notes were completed and improved in two courses on Malliavin cal culus given at the University of California at Irvine in 1986 and at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in 1989. The contents of these courses correspond to the material presented in Chapters 1 and 2 of this book. Chapter 3 deals with the anticipating stochastic calculus and it was de veloped from our collaboration with Moshe Zakai and Etienne Pardoux. The series of lectures given at the Eighth Chilean Winter School in Prob ability and Statistics, at Santiago de Chile, in July 1989, allowed us to write a pedagogical approach to the anticipating calculus which is the basis of Chapter 3. Chapter 4 deals with the nonlinear transformations of the Wiener measure and their applications to the study of the Markov property for solutions to stochastic differential equations with boundary conditions.
Book Synopsis Selected Aspects of Fractional Brownian Motion by : Ivan Nourdin
Download or read book Selected Aspects of Fractional Brownian Motion written by Ivan Nourdin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-01-17 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fractional Brownian motion (fBm) is a stochastic process which deviates significantly from Brownian motion and semimartingales, and others classically used in probability theory. As a centered Gaussian process, it is characterized by the stationarity of its increments and a medium- or long-memory property which is in sharp contrast with martingales and Markov processes. FBm has become a popular choice for applications where classical processes cannot model these non-trivial properties; for instance long memory, which is also known as persistence, is of fundamental importance for financial data and in internet traffic. The mathematical theory of fBm is currently being developed vigorously by a number of stochastic analysts, in various directions, using complementary and sometimes competing tools. This book is concerned with several aspects of fBm, including the stochastic integration with respect to it, the study of its supremum and its appearance as limit of partial sums involving stationary sequences, to name but a few. The book is addressed to researchers and graduate students in probability and mathematical statistics. With very few exceptions (where precise references are given), every stated result is proved.
