Book Synopsis Assessment of the ''thermal Normalization Technique'' for Measurement of Neutron Cross Sections Vs Energy. [Above 20 KeV, Resonance, Fission Integrals, Error Minimization]. by :
Download or read book Assessment of the ''thermal Normalization Technique'' for Measurement of Neutron Cross Sections Vs Energy. [Above 20 KeV, Resonance, Fission Integrals, Error Minimization]. written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Refined knowledge of the thermal neutron cross sections of the fissile nuclides and of the (n, .cap alpha.) reaction standards, together with the reasonably well known energy dependence of the latter, have permitted resonance-region and low-keV fissile nuclide cross sections to be based on these standards together with count-rate ratios observed as a function of energy using a pulsed ''white'' source. As one evaluates cross sections for energies above 20 keV, optimum results require combination of cross section shape measurements with all available absolute measurements. The assumptions of the ''thermal normalization method'' are reviewed, and an opinion is given of the status of some of the standards required for its use. The complications which may limit the accuracy of results using the method are listed and examples are given. For the 235U(n, f) cross section, the option is discussed of defining resonance-region fission integrals as standards. The area of the approximately 9 eV resonances in this nuclide may be known to one percent accuracy, but at present the fission integral from 0.1 to 1.0 keV is known to no better than about two percent. This uncertainty is based on the scatter among independent results, and has not been reduced by the most recent measurements. This uncertainty now limits the accuracy attainable for the 235U(n, f) cross section below about 50 keV. Suggestions are given to indicate how future detailed work might overcome past sources of error.
Book Synopsis Experimental neutron resonance spectroscopy by : J Harvey
Download or read book Experimental neutron resonance spectroscopy written by J Harvey and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental Neutron Resonance Spectroscopy deals with the experimental technique of neutron resonance spectroscopy. Pulsed accelerator time-of-flight spectrometers and gamma rays from neutron capture in resonances are discussed. Total neutron cross section measurements are presented, along with neutron scattering and capture cross-section measurements and measurements on fissile nuclides. This book is comprised of five chapters and begins with an introduction to pulsed accelerator time-of-flight spectrometers with moderated continued neutron spectra, together with the pulsed Van De Graaff. Experimental techniques used for neutron cross section measurements, including detectors and data acquisition equipment, are then outlined. Scattering measurements and capture measurements as well as gamma-ray spectra from the capture of neutrons in resonances are considered. The final chapter focuses on the detailed and varied experiments that have been performed on the complicated fission process, together with the parameters of the resonances of the fissile nuclides. This monograph will be a useful resource for spectroscopists and physicists.
Book Synopsis Fast Neutron Cross Section Measurement System and Results by : Dale W. Glasgow
Download or read book Fast Neutron Cross Section Measurement System and Results written by Dale W. Glasgow and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A system has been designed and constructed for high accuracy neutron cross section measurements using pulsed beam time-of-flight techniques. The detection system has been used to obtain neutron scattering cross sections for Al, Si, Fe, Ni, and Co at 9.0 MeV incident neutron energy and to obtain a survey of neutron scattering by Carbon from 7 to 9 MeV incident energy. The cross sections have a normalization uncertainty or accuracy of about 5%, precision of 2-3% for strongly excited groups, and a precision of 5-10% for weakly excited groups. The report presents detailed design criteria for the detection system, and a description of detector shielding constructed for the measurements. It also contains a study of the data corrections which most strongly influence the accuracy of results. (Modified author abstract).
