Neurological disorders also include brain injuries, neuroinfections, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson disease. A Review on Neurological Disorders: Pathophysiology, Molecular Mechanisms, and Therapeutics covers the major topics related to neurological disorders, current challenges in diagnosis and intervention. This book is organized into four distinct sections, starting with an introduction, providing a general overview of the epidemiology of neurological disorders, pathogenesis and management. The second section presents the aspects of brain diseases due to infection of bacteria, parasite, fungus and viruses. The third section discusses neurodegenerative disorders due to comorbid factors like diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and post traumatic brain injuries. The last section covers prevention through application of bioactive compounds and neuroprotective agents. - Epidemiology of neurological disorders and pathogenesis. - Explores neuroinflammation, ligand-receptors binding, and neurodegeneration. - Discusses aging and associated disorders in the onset of neurological disorders. - Neuropharmacology and the protective role of bioactive compounds in neuroprotection.

Book excerpt: The emergence of HIV disease and AIDS, the reemergence of tuberculosis, and the increased opportunity for disease spread through international travel demonstrate the critical importance of global vigilance for infectious diseases. This volume highlights risk factors for the emergence of microbial threats to health, warns against complacency in public health, and promotes early prevention as a cost-effective and crucial strategy for maintaining public health in the United States and worldwide. The volume identifies infectious disease threats posed by bacteria and viruses, as well as protozoans, helminths, and fungi. Rich in information, it includes a historical perspective on infectious disease, with focuses on Lyme disease, peptic ulcer, malaria, dengue, and recent increases in tuberculosis. The panel discusses how "new" diseases arise and how "old" ones resurge and considers the roles of human demographics and behavior, technology and industry, economic development and land use, international travel and commerce, microbial adaptation and change, and breakdown of public health measures in changing patterns of infectious disease. Also included are discussions and recommendations on disease surveillance; vaccine, drug, and pesticide development; vector control; public education and behavioral change; research and training; and strengthening of the U.S. public health system. This volume will be of immediate interest to scientists specializing in all areas of infectious dieseases and microbiology, healthy policy specialists, public health officials, physicians, and medical faculty and students, as well as anyone interested in how their health can be threatened by infectious diseases.

This book was released on 2023-08-02 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), produces the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), with atypical pneumonia. This infection is a global health challenge producing post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC), including neuro-PASC in which direct or indirect invasion of the virus into the brain causes immune dysregulation, hormonal disorders, elevated cytokine levels due to immune reaction and chronic inflammation, direct tissue injury, and persistent low-grade infection. The COVID-19 induced-neuroinflammation promotes blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption, access of antigens and inflammatory factors into the brain, as well as infection or immune-mediated response in the neuromuscular system. It is therefore necessary to explore whether there is a close correlation with the adenosine pathway, the activation of the ACE receptor by the virus, the concentration of IL6 and the neuro-invasive effect of COVID-19. Other points of interest are the analysis of the autonomic dysfunction induced by cytokines; the effect of vaccine mRNA delivery in Central and Peripheral Nervous System, the long-term effects of Covid 19 infection and/or therapeutic approach in different pandemic countries. In this Research Topic we aim to including submissions and research from different countries, which will allow comparisons of loco-regional clinical experiences, diagnostic flow-charts, and different therapeutic approaches.
