Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This National Infrastructure Plan sets out the strategy for meeting the infrastructure needs of the UK economy. There are three elements to this strategy. First, the Government will plan for the medium term and across sectors. The Plan brings together a comprehensive cross-sectoral analysis of the UK's infrastructure networks and sets out a clear pipeline of over 500 infrastructure projects. Delivering these projects will ensure that the overall performance of the UK's infrastructure is maintained and improved over time. Second, to mobilise the finance required to deliver these projects, the Plan sets out a new approach to coordinating public and private investment in UK infrastructure. Funded through further reductions in current spending, additional investment in infrastructure is being announced. The Government will act to facilitate the private investment that will finance the majority of the UK's infrastructure. This includes bringing in new investors into UK infrastructure; introducing new sources of revenue such as tolling; allowing local authorities more flexibility in the way they use local receipts to fund major infrastructure in specific circumstances; and being willing to consider guarantees against specific risks that the market cannot bear. Third, the Government will take an active role in ensuring the infrastructure in the Plan is delivered efficiently and on time, with priority given to those projects most critical for economic growth. The Government is also reforming the planning and consenting systems to tackle these sources of cost and delay in infrastructure delivery.

The U.S. manufacturing industry contributes greatly to the gross domestic product and employs roughly one million members of the Nation's workforce. While the contributions of the sector to the Nation are immense, they do not come without risk; the economic and strategic value of the industry may make it an attractive target for terrorists. Additionally, the economic and strategic value of the industry and existing interdependencies with other sectors may result in significant consequences in the event of a natural disaster or other incident that affects the Critical Manufacturing Sector. To help manage this risk, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and other Critical Manufacturing Sector partners have developed the Critical Manufacturing Sector- Specific Plan (SSP).

A specific set of criteria requirements allows any organization, such as a government agency, to integrate the principles into their local environment. In this edition, each principle is presented as a separate security strategy and illustrated with compelling examples. The book adds 50-75 pages of new material aimed specifically at enhancing the student experience and making it more attractive for instructors teaching courses such as cyber security, information security, digital security, national security, intelligence studies, technology and infrastructure protection. It now also features case studies illustrating actual implementation scenarios of the principles and requirements discussed in the text, along with a host of new pedagogical elements, including chapter outlines, chapter summaries, learning checklists, and a 2-color interior. Furthermore, a new and complete ancillary package includes test bank, lesson plans, PowerPoint slides, case study questions, and more. This text is intended for security practitioners and military personnel as well as for students wishing to become security engineers, network operators, software designers, technology managers, application developers, etc. Provides case studies focusing on cyber security challenges and solutions to display how theory, research, and methods, apply to real-life challenges Utilizes, end-of-chapter case problems that take chapter content and relate it to real security situations and issues Includes instructor slides for each chapter as well as an instructor’s manual with sample syllabi and test bank

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geodesy is the science of accurately measuring and understanding three fundamental properties of Earth: its geometric shape, its orientation in space, and its gravity field, as well as the changes of these properties with time. Over the past half century, the United States, in cooperation with international partners, has led the development of geodetic techniques and instrumentation. Geodetic observing systems provide a significant benefit to society in a wide array of military, research, civil, and commercial areas, including sea level change monitoring, autonomous navigation, tighter low flying routes for strategic aircraft, precision agriculture, civil surveying, earthquake monitoring, forest structural mapping and biomass estimation, and improved floodplain mapping. Recognizing the growing reliance of a wide range of scientific and societal endeavors on infrastructure for precise geodesy, and recognizing geodetic infrastructure as a shared national resource, this book provides an independent assessment of the benefits provided by geodetic observations and networks, as well as a plan for the future development and support of the infrastructure needed to meet the demand for increasingly greater precision. Precise Geodetic Infrastructure makes a series of focused recommendations for upgrading and improving specific elements of the infrastructure, for enhancing the role of the United States in international geodetic services, for evaluating the requirements for a geodetic workforce for the coming decades, and for providing national coordination and advocacy for the various agencies and organizations that contribute to the geodetic infrastructure.
