Book excerpt: Enemies become lovers, striving to unite their divided nations. As a devoted guardian of Aeleftheria Nisi, Marli Fleetwing is determined to protect her people, find her missing friend and get her claws into the male dragon shifter that attacked their home. After days of fruitless searching, she receives a message confirming that her friend is not only alive, but needs her to journey into the heart of the enemy’s mountain lair… to work with them? Stenlen Flintail struggles to hold his male brethren together since his insubordination caused the dramatic succession that nearly fractured the mountain tribe. They’d been on the verge of uniting the male and female dragon shifters under the old king’s rule and now Sten fears that the new king will only bring them a future of a prolonged male-only lair and eternal loneliness. So when the hot little dragoness that he’d tailed on a previous mission appears as the king’s guest and ordered to work with the new council, he’s both surprised by her purple-clawed attack and delighted at how fierce—and breathtaking she is. As Marli and Stenlen are forced to work together as the eyes and ears of their monarchs, they realize that the fate of their people is in their hands and the hearts. Ultimately, the fate of their people is in their hands.
Book Synopsis Men, Power, and Myths by : Allan Guggenbühl
Download or read book Men, Power, and Myths written by Allan Guggenbühl and published by Burns & Oates. This book was released on 1997 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Jungian analyst Allan Guggenbuhl develops a completely new psychological theory about men. His idea is that traditional psychology has failed to tackle the main objectives that motivate men in their private and public lives. When men dedicate themselves to work, fight for social causes, start families, or get crazy over sports, they are enacting concealed mythic patterns -- patterns that lie at the very heart of our culture. Men have a natural affinity for myth and mythmaking which, Guggenbuhl maintains, results in grandiose aspirations and what often appears to be the purest sort of self-indulgence. At the same time, such thinking also helps to explain a seeming helplessness that men have in dealing with their own feelings. Once all of this is understood, Guggenbuhl maintains, a true equality in relationships, based on the differences between the sexes, can also be attained. Men can thereby achieve a greater understanding and more realistic appreciation of their strengths and weaknesses
Book Synopsis Stormchasers: The Hurricane Hunters and Their Fateful Flight into Hurricane Janet by : David Toomey
Download or read book Stormchasers: The Hurricane Hunters and Their Fateful Flight into Hurricane Janet written by David Toomey and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2003-06-17 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fifty years after Isaac's Storm, a riveting story of the first Hurricane Hunters, and the one crew who paid the ultimate price. "In a virtual age when tempests are monitored by global positioning and The Weather Channel, Stormchasers reminds us that our first understanding of hurricanes was directly built on the risks and sacrifices of living, breathing heroes," writes Hampton Sides (author of Ghost Soldiers). In September 1955, Navy Lieutenant Commander Grover B. Windham and a crew of eight flew out of Guantánamo Bay into the eye of Hurricane Janet swirling in the Caribbean: a routine weather reconnaissance mission from which they never returned. In the wake of World War II, the Air Force and the Navy had discovered a new civilian arena where daring pilots could test their courage and skill. These Hurricane Hunters flew into raging storms to gauge their strength and predict their paths. Without computer, global positioning, or satellite support, they relied on rudimentary radar systems to locate the hurricane's eye and estimated the drift of their aircraft by looking at windblown waves below. Drawing from Navy documents and interviews with members of the squadron and relatives of the crew, Stormchasers reconstructs the ill-fated mission of Windham's crew from preflight checks to the chilling moment of their final transmission.

Download or read book Nos/Otras written by Andrea J. Pitts and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2021-08-01 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a refreshingly novel approach to the writings of Gloria E. Anzaldúa (1942–2004), Andrea J. Pitts addresses issues relevant to contemporary debates within feminist theory and critical race studies. Pitts explores how Anzaldúa addressed, directly and indirectly, a number of complicated problems regarding agency in her writings, including questions of disability justice, trans theorizing, Indigenous sovereignty, and identarian politics. Anzaldúa's conception of what Pitts describes as multiplicitous agency serves as a key conceptual link between these questions in her work, including how discussions of agency surfaced in Anzaldúa's late writings of the 1990s and early 2000s. Not shying away from Anzaldúa's own complex and sometimes problematic framings of disability, mestizaje, and Indigeneity, Pitts draws from several strands of contemporary Chicanx, Latinx, and African American philosophy to examine how Anzaldúa's work builds pathways toward networks of solidarity and communities of resistance.
