Book Synopsis Tales of Pirates and Blue Water by : Arthur Conan Doyle
Download or read book Tales of Pirates and Blue Water written by Arthur Conan Doyle and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2021-11-09 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tales of Pirates and Blue Water is a collection of adventurous maritime short stories written by Arthur Conan Doyle. Doyle was a British writer and physician. Excerpt: "Left to themselves, the captain and mate made the best preparations which they could for their illustrious passenger. The largest cabin was turned out and adorned in his honour, and orders were given by which barrels of fruit and some cases of wine should be brought off to vary the plain food of an ocean-going trader. In the evening the Governor's baggage began to arrive--great ironbound ant-proof trunks, and official tin packing-cases, with other strange-shaped packages, which suggested the cocked hat or the sword within. And then there came a note, with a heraldic device upon the big red seal, to say that Sir Charles Ewan made his compliments to Captain Scarrow, and that he hoped to be with him in the morning as early as his duties and his infirmities would permit."
Book Synopsis ‘Lost and Found’ on Planet Dani by : Andrew Corwin
Download or read book ‘Lost and Found’ on Planet Dani written by Andrew Corwin and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2024-04-15 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An improbable adventure sprung from the true account of ‘wabah babi’, or ‘swine plague’, in the far eastern reaches of the Indonesian archipelago, bordering with Papua New Guinea. Home to the Dani people who live much as they have for the past 2000 years. The two leading characters, an American naval officer and ‘disease chaser’, and an Indonesian government doctor, undertake an arduous expedition to investigate the outbreak against a backdrop of a hostage-taking-crisies that has caught the world’s attention. Making for a story that could not have been dreamt up. Their journey takes on a fantastical turn, the stuff of fiction, when they find themselves fighting for survival in the remote jungle highlands. Their interactions with the Dani highlight the fragility and resilience of the human spirit. Theirs is an amazing trek treated with guile and humor. The author takes liberties in borrowing from factual accounts of reported events associated with a ‘very real’ and ongoing insurgency, adding authenticity and context to the narrative. He reveals himself by invoking images from the storied cinema and delving into tangents: passions revealed in primitive art and the 'natural world' - the sublime to grotesque, and beyond bizarre.

Book Synopsis Postmodern Pirates by : Susanne Zhanial
Download or read book Postmodern Pirates written by Susanne Zhanial and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2019-12-16 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Postmodern Pirates offers a comprehensive analysis of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean series and the pirate motif through the lens of postmodern theories. Susanne Zhanial shows how the postmodern elements determine the movies’ aesthetics, narratives, and character portrayals, but also places the movies within Hollywood’s contemporary blockbuster machinery. The book then offers a diachronic analysis of the pirate motif in British literature and Hollywood movies. It aims to explain our ongoing fascination with the maritime outlaw, focuses on how a text’s cultural background influences the pirate’s portrayal, and pays special attention to the aspect of gender. Through the intertextual references in Pirates of the Caribbean, the motif’s development is always tied to Disney’s postmodern movie series.

Book Synopsis Resource-ful Consulting by : Karen Izod
Download or read book Resource-ful Consulting written by Karen Izod and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-11 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Consultants and practitioners working with change can feel at a loss as to how to help their clients move forward. Organisations get stuck in routine ways even when they have innovations in mind. Consultants get stuck in familiar interventions which no longer prove stimulating or effective. Such challenges to practice can preoccupy and reinforce these stuck positions. Drawing on the authors' experiences of working with the professional development of consultants and change-agents over many years, this book provides an asset-based approach to consulting, where the resources to work at this 'stuckness' come from the way that we think about and use ourselves: our Identity and our Presence. The authors propose that developing capacities to recognise and analyse who we bring into our consulting, and how we bring ourselves is central to resource-ful practice. Without a skill-ful integration of these resources, the potential for change can be compromised. In handbook format, the book is structured in seven sections: Potential Space, Identity, Presence, Role Space, Practice, Change, and Future Developments.
