Book Synopsis The Story of a Soul: A New Translation by : Thérèse of Lisieux
Download or read book The Story of a Soul: A New Translation written by Thérèse of Lisieux and published by Paraclete Press. This book was released on 2006-04-01 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: St. Thérèse's autobiography was first published soon after her death in 1897 at the age of twenty-four. Combining charming descriptions of family and community life with a sense of humor and intense devotion to God, it was an instant bestseller. But earlier editions often excluded passages, and refined her use of the French dialect often spoken by peasants. This remarkable new translation includes every word of the original text, retaining the complete charm of the original. The result is a complete and unabridged work, longer than most other editions available today. Millions of hearts have been touched by St. Thérèse of Lisieux's desire, not to be mighty and great, but to be a humble, little flower that would gladden God's eyes as He glances down at His feet. Now, yours will be, too. Robert Edmonson also took the time to translate the poem "Divine Prisoner" which is referred to in Story of a Soul as Thérèse's favorite poem, and as the inspiration behind her name "Little Flower." Book Synopsis Rising to Meet Our Transformation by : William E. Leahy
Download or read book Rising to Meet Our Transformation written by William E. Leahy and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014-01-28 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rising To Meet Our Transformation began as a few thoughts that mushroomed into many ideas that were in my poetic brain flow for quite awhile. Thus I began putting these thoughts into a wide array of poems on paper. Some of these poetic ideas the reader may closely relate to; yet other poetic words may still be more personal and private. As I wrote I allowed the flow of words and ideas to make their impact; then I changed and rearranged where the order and actual word composition required a better flow. Transformation was the key ingredient of this book and in many instances it will be just that. Nonetheless there are poetic thoughts that relate to a different type of change which may not be totally transforming, but at the same time be identifiable. My hope is that there will be a adequate array of poems that would spark the audience. Transformation requires a radical change in our thinking which translates into our personal life and living. Often we change to survive or become enamoured with a new idea that fills our void so we change while our surroundings remain somewhat intact. Yet in real time our environment will recreate itself so we will eventually be transformed into a new age so let us begin! Bill Leahy December 2013
Download or read book World on Fire written by Amy Chua and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2004-01-06 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reigning consensus holds that the combination of free markets and democracy would transform the third world and sweep away the ethnic hatred and religious zealotry associated with underdevelopment. In this revelatory investigation of the true impact of globalization, Yale Law School professor Amy Chua explains why many developing countries are in fact consumed by ethnic violence after adopting free market democracy. Chua shows how in non-Western countries around the globe, free markets have concentrated starkly disproportionate wealth in the hands of a resented ethnic minority. These “market-dominant minorities” – Chinese in Southeast Asia, Croatians in the former Yugoslavia, whites in Latin America and South Africa, Indians in East Africa, Lebanese in West Africa, Jews in post-communist Russia – become objects of violent hatred. At the same time, democracy empowers the impoverished majority, unleashing ethnic demagoguery, confiscation, and sometimes genocidal revenge. She also argues that the United States has become the world’s most visible market-dominant minority, a fact that helps explain the rising tide of anti-Americanism around the world. Chua is a friend of globalization, but she urges us to find ways to spread its benefits and curb its most destructive aspects.
Download or read book Magic Potion written by Mahrouyeh Maghzi and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2014-12-18 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A woman has invited 25 women and 25 men to come and listen to her talk about her book and ask them whether or not to publish it. In a small square room, she finds 23 men have arrived. She stays outside the room and speaks to them telepathically about relationships, honouring the female principle and the meaning of life. What does the story of the Garden of Eden mean? Later she comes into the room and educates them about the role of women and raising the men’s consciousness. She embodies light and takes them into another mental realm. She tests their ideas, surprises and shocks them to help them evolve. One of them finds that the book on the lectern is blank. In the end we realize she hasn’t written a book, but lived it. Maghzi states: This book is one woman's vision which has been reduced to a readable form. This book is about a woman who raises her voice on behalf of those women who have suffered through the centuries! This book is about cutting selfish self's rough and uneven edges in order to become wiser and smarter to circle the wiser and smarter beloved!

Book excerpt: This is a book filled with poetry created from feelings and memories. It in a way is fabricated, the words used that make these feelings seem pretty hide truths of the reality of these things. They make our pain look kind and easy, and our love looks simple and small, but these poems hide truths’s can you find them? Some of these poems might hurt your heart or heal your soul, but I wonder if you readers will be able to find yourself in these. I hope these poems reach you the way they reached me as I typed them.
