Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chronic Pain: A Self-Help Guide offers a practical program for coping with chronic pain. Dr. Steven W. Pollard appraises the current methods for managing chronic pain and presents his program for a down-to-earth, flexible menu of coping strategies for fellow sufferers of chronic pain. Walking step-by-step through the stages of pain from denial, anger, bartering, and depression to acceptance, Dr. Pollard leads the sufferer gently on the route towards a clear and simple set of guidelines to enable them to live with, cope with, and take control of their own lives in the midst of chronic pain. In approximately August of 2008, he began developing his own severe chronic lower back pain and suffered with it for the next three years. His experience with severe chronic pain gave him the impetus to develop a program to help him cope with the pain. While he still has some severe pain, he has regained new purpose in his life to help others learn how to cope with their pain. With his professional training in treating severe chronic pain and the added advantage of experiencing severe pain himself, he was able to develop the effective method for managing chronic pain. Now he presents both his story and his methods in hopes of helping others overcome their suffering and build new lives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is hell? That depends on your perspective. For first-time author Tony Sorendo, Hell was a physically and emotionally painful journey with chronic pain wrought with heartache, disappointment, and despair as he made his way toward an awakening of positivity and a life dedicated to helping others. In a page-turner that is admittedly "his story," Sorendo allows readers to truly live in, relate to, and feel a world in which an estimated 80 million Americans or more are trapped today: the world of chronic pain. With unbridled candor and honesty, Sorendo intimately shares the depths of his despair as he chronicles the seemingly never ending trials and tribulations that so many individuals in chronic pain-and the people who love them-will recognize and sympathize with. Pain. Injuries. Insurance. Lawyers. Doubts. Anger. Frustration. Loneliness. Isolation. Depression. An inspirational must-read for anyone awake in this world, My Journey to Hell and Back with Chronic Pain isn't just one man's story or a story about chronic pain. And it's not a how-to or a self-help book, either. Rather, as Sorendo reveals his personal, life-changing experience, his story evolves into a series of modern-day miracles and inspiring examples of determination, positivity, and generosity of spirit that will assure readers that they're not alone. My Journey to Hell and Back with Chronic Pain is wonderfully written in a down-to-earth style, and Sorendo is an adept and engaging storyteller. Vividly bringing his memories to life, his experiences become all the more familiar to his readers as he bares his soul openly, honestly, and with raw emotion. If Sorendo can make it to hell and back with chronic pain-and find renewed purpose, joy, positivity, and hope-so can others, whether in chronic pain or not.

Book excerpt: Living with chronic pain for over 40 years has taught me valuable lessons. Realizing that millions of Americans share this unkind challenge, I wanted to share practical ideas I found to be quite helpful. The basis of my chronic pain is fibromyalgia and temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD). My body has generalized pain as well as localized pain along with fatigue. Pain is a constant companion. There are times the pain is worse and I call these flare-ups. For me TMD occurred due to a displaced disc in the right jaw. One doctor’s theory is that my body had to accommodate the missing disc and fibromyalgia developed. My journey with pain and fatigue began when I was a college student and has progressed through marriage, motherhood, full-time college instructor, and now a retiree. Through the years some doctors told me that my condition is all in my head. I felt the guilt of not being a better daughter, wife, mom, teacher and friend. I work hard to turn frustration into living well with chronic pain. While I live with the pain of fibromyalgia, I believe many of the ideas shared in this book are helpful in coping with pain caused by other conditions. My purpose is to present strategies I have used to cope with pain in the hope that you will have one of those ‘ah-ha’ moments of thinking, “that might work for me too!” Knowing the very act of reading may be painful, I purposely wrote each topic to stand alone in a concise format. A challenge is given at the end of each topical piece to invite you to consider similar ways of taking control of your pain. Please do not be overwhelmed and discouraged if an idea does not work. Use what works for you and use your imagination to think of other things you can do. Remember, I have been at this for over 40 years. For me, nothing happened overnight. I am constantly refining ways to help me cope with pain. What I have learned about myself and my pain is the basis for this book. My wish is that you too will find helpful ways to improve your life in spite of the pain. You deserve to live well, even with chronic pain

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At some point during our adult lives, most people experience bouts of back pain. Chronic back pain is pain that persists after an injury or surgery where the source is hard to determine. This is the story of my journey through life with debilitating, chronic back pain-and my work to find a real solution that would allow me to live without it. It's a story that I would rather not tell, but I feel I must. It's important to me to share with you several things I've learned from my journey: how chronic back pain develops, what I endured as I tried to find solutions, and the methods I finally used to solve my back pain problem once and for all. Armed with this information, you benefit from my journey and learn how to free yourself from pain. My goal with this book is to fundamentally change the way our healthcare system currently treats chronic back pain. There are way too many people who are living and suffering from it. If I can prove the current treatment model is wrong, I can help these people. If I can help just one person get out of chronic pain, then all of the time that I have spent searching for answers, documenting results, and writing this book will have been worth it. I am confident that, if my ideas are implemented, millions of people can be helped in very real ways.

And then, after months of spontaneous and constant pain - Chronic Pain. Ms. Levy takes us with her on her journey from who she was to who she became. We experience the fight with herself, the pain, and often the medical system itself, as she reaches out for relief and acceptance. "A fascinating story, honestly told and courageously lived." Stephen S. Hall, N.Y.Times magazine science and medicine writer. Author, Invisible Frontiers: The Race To Synthesize A Human Gene. "This is the first time I have been let in so completely into the life of somewone living with chronic pain. A Pained Life is a compelling read. Ms. Levy has laid bare her experiencr so that others know that ultimately there is hope. I recommend it to pain patients, members of the medical community and the public at large." John Park, M.D., anaesthesiologist and pain specialist. "A Pained Life is an unsophisticated book, but it is so real, so honestly told, so suspenseful, that it is hard to put down. Carol Jay Levys courage and perseverance can help light the way for others who endure pain and a medical maze, with little hope and less help. Medical professionals might also gain insight from this personal story of someone at the other end of the stethoscope." Kathy Lyons 3/28/04, American Chronic Pain Association. "The detail with which the writer is able to describe the lead-up and surrounding details of the medical condition finally diagnosed as Trigeminal Neuralgia captures the readers attention with great intensity. The author has a good ability to draw emotions from the reader. She has done an exceptional job in writing so that the reader feels strong emotion about the author." Writers Digest International Self-published Book Awards competition. "My husband is reading your book now and seems *much* more empathetic. After he finishes it, I am lending it to my therapist and chiro who are great people but havent a clue what its like to live with pain 24/7. You are such a wonderful writer." A.gye, pain patient. "I finished the book, and it really was a GREAT read!! The way you described everything so vividly, made it feel like I was there along with you every step of the way! Jeremy Baker, Fox TV.
