Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book An ABE’s Logbook by author Stephen D. Phillips is a true story of accounts taken from his childhood and the written entries from his personal journals he kept while he served in the United States Navy from 1985 to 2005. The story begins in his childhood as he attended junior high school at Rosemont Middle School in Fort Worth, Texas, attending there from the sixth to eighth grades. These years and their events shaped and molded his life. The encouragement of family, with their love and support, guided him to follow in the footsteps of one of his older brothers and become a sailor. An ABE’s Logbook tells some of those stories, filling the reader with all the raw emotions of a young man leaving home and becoming a man, a sailor, and experiencing that part of his life. An ABE’s Logbook reveals to the reader the story of a sailor and his life aboard ship and all he faces, fears, and accomplishes, both dangers and beauty of the Naval ship and of the sea.
Download or read book Logbook Affairs written by John Spadea and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2020-01-23 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Spadea dreamed of being a pilot as a young boy, but everyone doubted him. He heard that his grades were not good enough, schooling was too expensive, or flying was too dangerous. Others pointed out that he wore glasses and being a pilot probably was not going to happen. But obstacles are meant to be overcome, and Spadea refused to let others dictate what he’d achieve. In this memoir, he looks back at how he defied the naysayers to enjoy a long and successful career as a commercial pilot – a career that is still going strong. From scary incidents to famous people who have joined him on his flying adventures, he reveals what it’s like to fly all over the planet. He also shares an uplifting commentary on the future of flying, noting that Boeing and Airbus have each predicted that the world will need thousands of new pilots in the coming years, so the time to enter aviation has never been better.

Book excerpt: Brad's Story describes the life of Bradford Berg, who grew up in Florida. Introduced to the sky at the age of seven by a flight on a Ford Tri-Motor, he fell in love with flying. Nine years later, he earned his pilot's license. Before he could vote, Brad won the wings of an Air Force pilot. He tells of peacetime and wartime experiences on assignments in Okinawa and Korea. After the Air Force, he joined Trans World Airlines and rose to chief pilot, responsible for the Western Division. During that period, he flew in the United States, Europe and the Middle East. When not at the controls of a 747, he was often flying one of his own planes or a glider over the deserts of California. With wife, Nell, they took motor home vacations, raced greyhound dogs and pursued a passion for golf. At fourteen, Brad lighted a cigarette and eventually became a three-pack-a-day smoker. Warned of the risks, he responded, "it can't happen to me'. Brad confesses to his despair at learning he had lung cancer. He describes the medical treatment. He recounts how he tried every treatment known to man, but failed to break his addiction. Then he found one that worked and he suggests that others try it. After having part of a lung removed, Brad struggled to put his feelings on paper. Then a follow-up, medical scan revealed the cancer was back. Few people are willing to share these intimate experiences. Brad does.

Book Synopsis Just One Simair Story by : Rich Schaffer
Download or read book Just One Simair Story written by Rich Schaffer and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-10-24 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rich Schaffer served the Lord for 20 years as a missionary pilot with the Sudan Interior Mission in Nigeria, West Africa. Harold Fuller wrote .. Great stuff, Rich. You have a very interesting writing style .. reconstructing conversation, describing vividly, building suspense. Were enjoying the chapters as you send them. I knew you were an accomplished pilot, but had no idea of your writing skills. Glad you are now using them! Flying with Rich at the controls was always okay. Although my heart at times pounded as the tiny Cessna faced a threatening tropical storm. I knew this matter-of fact guy of few words had the courage and professional experience to find a hole through or around the thunderheads and bring us out safely on the other side. And Rich always acknowledged that the Lord had given him the qualities that made him a top-rate pilot for Africas uncertain weather and questionable landing strips. In this story about SIMAIR, Rich takes the reader through many an adventure that showed Gods hand to be on the Mission aircraft and its occupants. With vivid description and homey dialogue , Rich weaves an honest account how God took a little boy from a tarpaper shack in Americas Midwest and made him part of a team who brought the Gospel to the neglected interior of West Africa .. fullfilling his boyhood dream of flying. Down to earth humor, growing pains, high adventure, finding God in dry season and rainy-season tempest .. Rich holds the readers attention from pagecone to the storys end. W. Harold Fuller, Lit.D (SIM Nigeria Director for several years of the Shaffers ministry)

Book Synopsis Are You This? Or Are You This? by : Madian Al Jazerah
Download or read book Are You This? Or Are You This? written by Madian Al Jazerah and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-12-01 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Madian Al Jazerah came out to his Arab parents, his mother had one question. 'Are you this?' she asked, cupping her hand. 'Or are you this?' she motioned with a poking finger. If you're the poker, she said, you aren't a homosexual. For Madian, this opposition reveals not who he is, but patriarchy, power, and society's efforts to fit us into neat boxes. He is Palestinian, but wasn't raised in Palestine. He is Kuwaiti-born, but not Kuwaiti. He's British-educated, but not a Westerner. He's a Muslim, but can't embrace the Islam of today. He's a gay man, out of the closet but still living in the shadows: he has left Jordan, his home, three times in fear of his life. Madian has searched for acceptance and belonging around the world, joining new communities in San Francisco, New York, Hawaii and Tunisia, yet always finding himself pulled back to Amman. This frank and moving memoir narrates his battles with adversity, racism and homophobia, and a rich life lived with humour, dignity and grace.
Book Synopsis Underneath The Archers by : Graham Harvey
Download or read book Underneath The Archers written by Graham Harvey and published by Unbound Publishing. This book was released on 2023-08-24 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'As hilarious, charming, eccentric, informative, addictive and delightful as the show itself' STEPHEN FRY Much-loved radio drama The Archers has been at the heart of British life for over seventy years, and the momentous events and changes of this time have all found a place in Ambridge. For more than three decades, scriptwriter Graham Harvey was the man behind the show’s farming storylines, writing over 600 episodes and crafting some of its most memorable moments: the Great Flood, the trashing of Brian’s GM crop, the loss of the Grundy family farm. In this book Graham interweaves personal memories of these moments with extracts from the scripts he created, offering behind-the-scenes details of how key characters and plotlines were developed, keeping pace with the real changes taking place in village and farm life. He also explores the part the show played in setting Britain on its disastrous transition from small-scale, sustainable farming to industrial agriculture. Could it now help guide the nation back to the nature-friendly, planet-saving methods we so desperately need? Underneath The Archers relates a personal drama, too: how Graham uncovered his father’s dark, wartime secret, the trauma which was to blight their family life. The insecurities of his youth gave Graham a deep attachment to the fictional community he was creating. The reassurance he found was in a love for England: its land, its soil, its farming culture – a love that found its perfect expression in the world of Ambridge and its inhabitants.
