Book Synopsis The Magical Publishing Pen and Other Stories by : M. Stefan Strozier
Download or read book The Magical Publishing Pen and Other Stories written by M. Stefan Strozier and published by World Audience Inc. This book was released on 2017-03-11 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Magical Publishing Pen is published by Mary Celeste Press. The collected stories of M. Stefan Strozier vary widely in theme and yet the protagonist is always a male of a certain age. As arranged here, the stories represent a chronological arc of a man's life from boyhood to adulthood. Stylistically, the stories show an arc too, as a story about a young man was written when the author was a young man, and a story about an older man was written when the author was older, for example. Magical Realism, framed stories, humor, satire, action, different points-of-view, and crisp dialog pervade the stories. This collection is a portrait of an artist as a young to mid-aged man.
Book Synopsis Square Persimmon and Other Stories by : Takashi Atoda
Download or read book Square Persimmon and Other Stories written by Takashi Atoda and published by Tuttle Publishing. This book was released on 2012-01-16 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Square Persimmon and Other Stories is an introduction to Takashi Atoda—one of Japan's most popular and versatile writers of fiction. Takashi Atocia is a master storyteller. Like the bar madam in "The Glow of Lipstick," he is capable of weaving a tale that captures the reader's attention from beginning to end. His plots deal with ordinary people, yet the emotional impact of each story is unusually strong. His down-to-earth characters inhabit a world that may at first appear familiar, but Atoda can so manipulate a scene that suddenly the reader is wondering whether it is reality or illusion that he is observing. Many stories feature bizarre endings. In these eleven stories, Atoda examines universal themes-first love, lost love, change, fate-through unmistakably Japanese eyes. The dreamlike quality of some stories invites the reader to draw his own conclusions in the denouement. Yet, in each one, Atoda brings to bear his precise style and his own unique vision, by turns mysterious, romantic, darkly humorous, and even bizarre.

Book Synopsis The Old World and Other Stories by : Cary Fagan
Download or read book The Old World and Other Stories written by Cary Fagan and published by House of Anansi. This book was released on 2017-03-18 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stirred by a series of found photographs, critically acclaimed author Cary Fagan brilliantly imagines the lost stories behind them in this dazzling story collection. Many years ago the photographs in this book became separated from their original owners, faces unrecognized, settings a mystery. They floated through this world, as if on a sorrowful wind... I have given them stories to replace the ones they have lost. So begins the bewitching new collection from acclaimed author Cary Fagan, and a journey into a world that is both achingly familiar and wonderfully strange. A man hangs onto a runaway horse. A woman paints in the nude. A child sparks a revolution. These stories, each inspired by a found photograph, are by turns realistic and surreal, bloody and tender, delightful and appalling. Here are stories that playfully vary in technique and form: monologues, dialogues, interviews, letters, transcripts, tall tales, and capsule histories form a single portrait, belonging — in the words of the author — “to one history, found in an album that might belong to any of us.” Fagan paints a portrait of re-imagined lives that is comic and tragic, profound and unforgettable. The beauty, humour, and the horror of days gone by haunt these pages and resonate in the world we find ourselves in today.

Book Synopsis The Kitten’S Cooler by : Judy Richter
Download or read book The Kitten’S Cooler written by Judy Richter and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-04-13 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Back in the day, my sisters name, Carol Hofmann Thompson, was a household word in the horse show world here and abroad. I have been blessed with many good memories of her and others who have brightened my life. To call this collection a memoir feels a bit too formal and pretentious, so I prefer to say these are a gathering of good old memories of people and events in my life from the fifties to the present day. There was no better decade than the 1950s to grow up in. The war was over, we won, and Eisenhower was our president. No more noble and able a man existed, except possibly Churchill, but he was British and, even then, old. It was a safe world; we never went to bed wondering if wed wake up to World War III. Our parents never worried about where we were, if they even wondered. They knew wed be home at dark for dinner. How different from today! What is most heartening about recollecting these stories, old and new, is that life does indeed go on, and for us horse people, it is the horses who carry us forward.
