Book excerpt: In 1980, this was the first junior fiction written by Hazel Edwards who is best known now for her ‘There’s a Hippopotamus on Our Roof Eating Cake’ picture book series. It was inspired by her cousin John who was in a wheelchair and dedicated to him. Originally called ‘Mum on Wheels’ (Hodder and Stoughton 1980), this slightly updated version is an insight into how although words may change, the importance of problem-solving via ‘good’ ideas remains. Lee suggests her wheelchair-bound Mum keeps her gardening passion, using herbs-on-wheels.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In December 2004, the doctor told me that my tumour was an invasive ductal carcinoma that needed to be removed through a lumpectomy and radiotherapy or a mastectomy procedure. I could choose. After my mastectomy, my oncologist prescribed an aggressive chemotherapy treatment to increase the odds that this aggressive ductal carcinoma cancer would not return. His decision was founded on probability, based on statistics that indicated cancer could possibly return if I didnt do anything differently. My oncologist told me that administering prescribed chemotherapy treatment would increase my survival rate from 50 percent to 60 percent if chemotherapy were to be administered within six weeks of my mastectomy. Chemotherapy treatment filled me with fear. I chose to learn. From my greatest fear came my greatest discovery and my greatest success. I have learned that I have the resources within me to choose the quality of my life along the way. I have learned to hunt those embedded limiting beliefs that have moulded me. I have learned that I can choose to change my beliefs, to change my attitude, to choose my state, to change the stresses in my life. I have learned that I can choose to change my mind to change the energy in my body to feel better and better every day. I choose. I have been clear of cancer for eight years. As a recently qualified life coach practitioner and an NLP practitioner, I am still learning. I practice what I learn through guiding others to realise their potential. My goal is to propel them forward, guiding them to use their imagination, to go back along their timeline and discover their defining moments. I urge them to uncover their embedded beliefs and know that they can change those beliefs anytime. Thus, they can change their bodies through changing their minds.

Book excerpt: The book is totally fiction, but should make you laugh as you imagine your brothers, cousins or local boys in the same situations that the boys in the book find them in. Although I don’t think you should try any of the techniques on a boy, as it would be terribly embarrassing for him. The book starts with various sections, about controlling boys by various girly means – a how to guide and also various suggestions of things to do with them, when under your control, before reading the stories themselves. The main section contains about 12 stories, with boys of ages from 6 to 12 or so, but the main story of 8-year old Tom and his young 7-year old sister, Pam, is very large and so is interspersed, between the other stories with Tom Continued - Parts B to L, to stop you getting bored, with the one boy, being put through his paces by his sister.

Book excerpt: ‘Fading From Memory’ is a son’s personal journal covering the period 2006-2009, during which his parents are first diagnosed with, and eventually succumb to, Alzheimer’s disease. The journal follows the family’s responses to the progressively more desperate needs of their parents with humour, insight, compassion, exasperation, enterprise and, finally, resignation. This book paints a raw, honest, but at times also heartwarming, picture of what really happens when Alzheimer’s strikes - twice. The author exhibits a deep and natural curiosity about what is happening to his parents' minds, how they came to be as they are, what steps can be taken to alleviate their troubles, and what choices the family has available. As fast as problems come at them, the family put up solutions, until eventually they can do no more. Throughout this very testing time, suffered by all the family, the author's humour enables him, and the reader, to step back and take stock, refresh the spirit, and return to the battle renewed.

Book excerpt: The fourth entry in the quirky, poignant Janie Chronicles finds Janie O’Connelly’s feet back on blessed dry land… until an unexpected opportunity has her jetting to the Big Apple. What do broken plans, bad drivers, unexpected visitors, and a psycho stalker have in common? Yep, that would be Janie. Janie has been invited to be a featured artist at the prestigious Schumer Gallery in New York City. It’s the offer of a lifetime. But as she knows, nothing ever goes exactly as planned. Horrible taxi rides and Fitzy’s over-the-top Halloween plans have nothing on an involuntary spiritual shift that leaves Janie more awakened but no less confused about the craziness of her quickly changing life.
